Jan. 26, 2008 it was reported on B92..."publication of transcripts of a conversation between Slovenian Foreign Ministry official Mitje Drobniča and members of the U.S. administration in Ljubljana daily Dnevnik, where it is alleged that the U.S. has, among other things, asked Slovenia to be the first to recognize Kosovo.

“Publication of internal diplomatic documentation, which happened to [Foreign Minister] Dimitrij Rupel], is a big blow not only to our credibility, but also to the functioning and standing of the Slovenian EU presidency,” said Kacin"

Three days later the Policy Director at the Slovenian Foreign Ministry resigned.

In the Balkans, there are many reasons and many opportunities to extend apologies.

Unfortunately, the words "I'm sorry" seem to get stuck in people's throats, regardless of the ethnicity.

The embassies were protected, the Riot police couldnt get there fast enough because there were 250 000 people on the streets in Belgrade. The West can use propaganda like the police were passive and didnt care all they want.

Oooops, they've already left!

"Serbia strongly condemn Slovenia’s role in support for the nation who desecrate Serbian cultural heritage and its symbols and who actively work on expulsion and atrocities against Serbs."

brumsila, what is Slovenia's role in all this? Slovenia just happened to be the head of EU for this period of time.
You just can't swallow the fact that little Slovenia with its progressive vision was the first country to break up from Yugoslavia and stand up to your hegemony. How you dare you burn the embassy of a sovereign nation just because its leadership doesn't think like you. But don't worry. Serbia will pay reparation for the damage to Slovenia and will send an apology. If you knew anything about international relations you should know that Serbia gave a guarantee for safety of each embassy's property and personnel when it signed diplomatic relations with each country. If you have a problem with Kosova's recognition take it up with UN and Russia, if you will, in a peaceful manner. But Serbia doesn't stop shocking the world with its violence even after twenty years. Look at your prime minister, he himself condones the burning and looting as youth seeking justice!!

Mr. Turk should ask his US-masters to pay the reparation...

how can he step up his voice at all, after the lately revealed documents... in which the american code of conduct for Slovenia had been listed up...?

instead he is asking for an excuse... what a soap opera, indeed!

Yesterday events made proud Serb nation. Proud and brave Serbs have attacked the unguarded Embassies of countries that acknowledged the Independence of Kosova in revenge. They have even attacked the Embassies of countries that have not acknowledged the Independence of Kosova like Canada and Croatia.
What message these brave people sent yesterday to the world?
We will not give Kosova ever. We will burn unguarded Embassies just like we did with unarmed people in Bosnia and Kosova. This will happen regardless the fact that you recognise or not Kosova Independence.

Good luck Srbija, on you way.

An apology ? I'd have though Slovenia would be ashamed of it's lawless behaviour. As for the EU, since there is no unity in the EU on this issue Slovenia can forget about hiding behind the EU.

I think Mr Turk addressed to right person for an apology. Our president Tadic is the person in charge to apologise for every kind of nonsense. I have no doubts that Tadic will once again play the role of ostrich by burying his head in sand and apologise.

However, Mr Turk forgot that his country should apologise for being actively involved in process of dismembering our country. Mr Turk Serbia also strongly condemn Slovenian role in destruction of Serbian cradle symbols, Serbia’s state symbols. Serbia strongly condemn Slovenia’s role in support for the nation who desecrate Serbian cultural heritage and its symbols and who actively work on expulsion and atrocities against Serbs.

He said that he expects the Serbian government to take the necessary measures and to apologize for the damage, according to Slovenian media.

Turk also said that with the adoption of the Slovenian government proposal for recognizing Kosovo independence, the process of recognition has begun and will head to the parliament.
To the Serbian citizents...wake up and read this cause no matter how many embassys you will burn, countries world wide will recognise Republic of Kosova....In the end you will be left without any support...It is so funny when serb say that they are right and the rest of the world is wrong!!!!It's so naive!!!

"Apology and reparations" --- for a building. Fine, how about your apology and reparations for now participating in stealing a part of Serbia and trying to legalize ethnic cleansing? Nobody should destroy embassies, but do you really think that you are entitled to any apology for what you are trying to do to Serbia?
