Hey KS...
What's with the angry words?
Investment is a good thing, and those words are a definate positive step. Whether they're empty or not is another story.
Why do you care? Is it YOUR investment? Are you THAT spiteful?

This is hogwash. If there ever was any chance for Serbia to help the Kosovar-Serbs economically, besides give them free money, it would have been past independence --- this is all just speech and words, all politically motivated. Here comes good cop Serbia to save poor and innocent Serbs from....

Serbia was our ally against hitler's aggression---how dare the clinton's bomb belgrade----killing innocent women and children---ignoring the sovernity of this nation whose province of kosovo was theirs since the 7th century. I for one will support serbia in her hour of need in any way I can----long live Serbia!!!

Very pleased to hear this, one of the most constructive moves to comeout of the Serbian govt since independence declaration. Kosovar Serbs must by all means stay and become part and partners in the new Kosova. Hopefully all the fuss will die down and Srbia will move on.

And congratulations to Albanians for making sure none of your people to date has raised a finger against the bewildered and frightened Serb communities. If that changes, you'll lose all moral support you've had to date, not just from little me but from around the world.

I am very well aware of that, that was just what I wrote, that Serbia have no control over Pristina airport and that you can get everything you want from there, including oil. But at what cost?
What is it that I am not aware of? I wrote the exact same thing that you stated, we don't controll your airttrafic, go ahead, import all your oil and electricity by airplane from new york on your new direct connection New York--Pristina.... It will be very cheap compared to when Elektroprivreda Srbije gave you electricity for free, or actually the EU paid for some of it since Kosovo is totally bancrupt.

Yes you could still import stuff and travel to some parts of Europe even if Serbia imposes an embargo against you, but at what price? GO for a weekend in Austria and have to drive thru first Albania, then ferry to Italy and then Austria. It will take two days instead of 7 hours by Belgrade-Zagreb highway.

Olf,

Why are you so sure that I am not considering that plan. I have nothing against to live in Kosovo as I already did prior to war and after the war. If you did not know the plan that Belgrade offers to K-Serbs in Kosovo was already implemented in Serbia. I know this for the fact because my father took that kind of loan for his business development. I just think that K-Serbs should have more benefits for living in Kosovo and the other Serbs from Serbia should be stimulated to come and live to Kosovo using these benefits. It is not colonization as you already colonized by the EU and USA. Kosovo has been always part of Serbia and your remarks that Kosovo is being colonized before is pure lack of knowledge and ignorance. Remember you live in Serbia’s territory that is stolen by Albanians and verified by the IC. That land grab is in another word colonization and occupation. You Albanians are now occupied and colonized by foreigners and be sure that the Kosovo and Metohija province will be back to right owner, it is just matter of the years. While Albanians live under occupation in their part of the province Serbs live free as birds in their part of the province. You are going to be governed by the occupants and Serbs will govern their part by themselves. You see the difference my friend?
And remember, Serbs are entitled to live where ever they want in thier country. Kosovo is still their country according to resolution 1244 which is still in force while not abolished by the UNSC. You are nothing without seat in the UN.

That all is very discriminating against Serbs in Serbia. Why wouldn’t the Serbs form Serbia proper have the same conditions?

Guys, if this true but I have doubts, than you will need people in the ground to execute. Do you have people? NO. Serbian population in Kosova are of old age 50-60 years old and above, this is including Mitrovica and northern part of Kosova.

Bmrusila has a plan, in fact a great plan, for bringing Serbs to live in Kosova in other words colonize Kosova again as in past. Bmrusila, why don’t you lead with example and become the first Serb to come and live in Kosova and reap all the benefits that come with. Or why don’t you go out and ask your friends if they are willing to come to live in Kosova with all those benefits. Same goes to Canadien.

Srboslav

Second scenarion is better for Serbs. All the goods coming form Serbia to go through the Serb companies in Kosova but this could be unacceptabele for the companies from Serbia. I must say, not a bad option.

Mike

pre 16 godina

It's certainly a good start. Kosovo needs to be a living investment, not just a museum piece. Plus, there's no restrictions in AP that prohibits Belgrade from doing this. By showing a firm commitment for investment in Serb-held Kosovo, it encourages those people to stay, and, I hope, encourages other Serbs to move there (or at the very least Kosovo IDPs to return). If this is coordinated with the EU Mission, it could actually prove to be a viable project.

As for overall economic strategies, an economic embargo does nothing. Serbia Proper can still benefit from its trade with Kosovo Province, and a buildup of economic interdependency is the first step in greater regional cooperation.

(Srboslav, 21 February 2008 13:32)

Again Srboslav, you might not be aware of this, but almost all flight that arrive in Pristina airport, do not fly over Serbia anyway.

For example BA flight London - Pristina, flies over Albania and Macedoni to get to Kosovo, and not Serbia.

I think you are overestimating the pain the Belgrade can cause to the general albanian population, which seems to be the pathetic state policy nowdays in Serbia (cause as much suffering to albanians).

Well, and americans can't block CUBA completely either but that havent stopped their sanctions from hurting ordinary people there. Of course the Castro brothers get everything they need from Mexico. Just as Thaci and the other fat cats in Pristina will get everything from Albania. But it will be much more expensive to them

And the israelis don't control the border of GAza against Egypt, but they still can't get anything from there.

I know that Serbia don't controll Pristina airport and with the new direct airline from New York to Pristina you could actually import all your oil that way... I just wonder what you will have to pay for the litte extra trade route... and how will you get electricuty if Elektroprivredje Srbije cuts you off? Montenegro? Do you really think a tiny nation of 600 000 people can support 2 millions more without building a nuclear power plant?

"1. Economic trade embargo, american-cuban style in combination with completely sealed borders, like Israel have agains Gaza and Hamas." (Srboslav)

If you look at a map, you will realise that Kosovo borders three other countries that have or will recognize its indepenence (Albania, Macedonia & Montenegro), and Belgrade has no control whatsoever of these borders. Good luck sealing these!

bmrusila

This is great plan, indeed. Those people must know that they can always count on Belgrade and the rest of Serbia. I would also go a step further and encourage all people who would like to move to Kosovo (Serbs from Serbia, why not) by offering them exactly the same possibilities. There are many people in Serbia without any job and that would be great opportunity for all of them to move to Kosovo, at least Northern part and start their living over there. From my own experience I claim there is nothing to be afraid of living in Northern part. All refuges should be enabled to come back in Kosovo as well and be given the same opportunity. The money that Belgrade used to pay for return of Kosovo debts, and we are talking about some millions of euros per year, can be invested in production, factories… etc.

I think that Serbian diaspora could be involved in this project as well.

Srboslav

pre 16 godina

Interesting economic plans!

I am a little split over what I belive is the best plan for Kosovo, what do you others here think about these two alternatives.

1. Economic trade embargo, american-cuban style in combination with completely sealed borders, like Israel have agains Gaza and Hamas. Only goods and Merchandise will be delivered to the North and enclaves.

OR

2. No economic sanctions against the southern Albanian parts of Kosovo, BUT all trade MUST go thru private local serbian companies in the Northern Kosovo. That way the Kosovo serbs will be garanteed some income and way of normal living.

WHats your opinion?

Good Move by the Serbian Government!

The Muslim south of Kosovo will not like to hear this, neither will that air-head French NATO Commander, since it will mean that there is more incentive for Kosovo Serbs to stay!
