The status quo caused the influence of organized crime? Please! How do you think Milosevic got elected in the first place...promising to protect the ethnic Serbs from the smuggling, drug trafficing organized Albanian mob in Kosovo!

"Balcer now sees new danger for the "young state", namely, in "numerous and strong Serb enclaves" that will threaten its "territorial integrity".

As long as these enclaves remain umbilically tied to mother Serbia, they will be relatively strong compared to their neighbours. This would be a good time to subsidize life in Kosovo for Serbs who need it so that they turn back the tide that has worked against them, namely uncontrolled albanian immigration, ethnic cleansing and prolific breeding.

Kosovo je Srbija!

Justice always triumphs.

LOL, Independence is free but to make it work is where it will cost more than what you guys have thought the celebrating is over now to make it work is the question.

What's the point of all these talks about the bleak future of Kosovo? Really.. It is being brought forward only by the people that opposed the Independence. I could understand if it was said only a couple of times, because difficult times lie ahead, but it is being repeated over and over and over.
Is it to demoralize Albanians? That WILL NOT happen..
Is it to scare others in the West, convince them that it is not worth investing in the poor neighbor next door? why do you rely on negative emotions to get help? Western Europe is much more mature than that, it knows better.

Oh dear, what a sorry mess.

Kosovo is 'independent' only in name. It will never be really independent, more a Potemkin village.

The EU tax payer will have to pick up the bill for the forseeable future.

And it is not 'the end'. Thaci and co still have not accepted the border between Macedonia and Kosovo. Well, 'the Powers' have accepted Kosovo in the current administrative borders, does the KLA state expect them to do their bidding and pressure the Macedonian governemt to give up territory and change the borders again???

Still, neither the EU nor the kosovo albanian leadership have any more excuses for their abject failure to produce any improvments since 1999 which is why 'Standards before Status' policy of the West became 'Status before Seandards'.

Recent elections in Kosovo showed that 55% of Kosovo albanians didn't believe any of the political parties available, hence they boycotted the vote.

Effectively stopping corruption, initmidation and crime in Kosovo means effectively locking up the KLA leadership who run the potemkin village that Kosovo is. Does anyone really think that will happen?

No more excuses.

Romanian media today was also skeptical in regarding the future of Kosovo after UDI. One commentator even said this: "When the celebrations will end, everybody able to emigrate will try to do so and will end up in EU, because US has a more restrictive immigration regime which will not be modified for the sake of some Balkan people, whatever Albanians hope. And the EU countries will simply deport them back to Kosovo, leaving Kosovo authorities to deal with their demographic problem. And we all will pay for this game of cat-and-mouse, with EU money, trowing them into this hole for years and years."

Quite bleak perspective, isn't?

Serbs and Croats and Muslims should fully work together to end the state of Bosnia.

Why should Croats and Serbs stay in a state they don't want while Albanians can go out?

No double standards please :)

So please solve the next problem: Bosnia!!

Absolutely NO money should be sent to Kosovo by the West. We should get our troops out!

The deal was autonomy. The Albanians are cheating!!

But hey, you guys got 50% unemployment. Sorry, but I will not pay for this!

Greetings from beautiful peaceful successful Holland!

A rather dismal collection of outlooks less than 24 hours after Pristina secedes.

A couple more "iron realism" Thaci is going to have to face in the coming weeks and months is the near-complete dependency on economically rich countries (where have we seen this before? Oh yes, FADURK - it's rather ironic that Slovenia seceded from Yugoslavia because it was tired of sending its hard-earned dinars to prop up Kosovo, and now that's just what their doing again).

Second, it is now all but inevitable that Serb enclaves north and south of the Ibar will be closed off to him. He can say whatever he wants about building a multiethnic community, and whether or not he's actually sincere in this remains to be seen. But the further Kosovo slips into stagnation, the closer the enclaves move towards Belgrade.

Uphill struggle? More like climbing Mt. Everest.
