It's funny you know
how george w bush is against terrorism yet he approves of them having their own country which they obtained illegally. It is like, for example, New Zealanders come to New South Wales and say we are the majority we declare independance. As if anyone would actually recognise that. But because it is Serbia America thinks they know what is best. They need to butt out and mind their own business. Well one day albania and america will be nuked.hopefully sooner rather than later. when will muslims learn to live with other people rather than try and take and take from society. By the way if anyone is interested in the truth about what actually happened and how the albanian played everyone in the world community then read this http://www.kosovo.net/news/archive/2004/April_12/6.html

i just wanted to thank all of the many posters here today -- y'all gave me more than a few good bellylaughs and also pauses for reflection. this is an historic weekend for us, a very special time, long-awaited. my young frnds in podujevo are celebrating through the night, they could hardly believe this day would ever come. but i knew it, i believed... i spoke with a number of frnds here in california -- they're well educated and were vaguely aware of events in the balkans, some more than others. but they were pleased for you kosovars, they instinctively feel the bond. as do i. we all wish you the very best for the coming days.

good luck and best wishes to all. keep it peaceful, but most of all, keep it fun!

As the famous american john paul jones once said "I have not yet begun to fight". Western recognition of this declaration will set the world on fire. And americans are terrible at putting out fires. We will see who will laugh last. I don't see how america will stop the secession of Republika Srpska and its annexation by Serbia since america has thrown the UN under the bus. I also am seeing the rise of the opposition in Crna Gora.

I worked 5 years in Kosovo and do not support what my Gov is doing, US. Most Americans do not know what is going on in Kosovo and I promise you that 90% would not approve of our policey's in Kosovo. I am sick to my stomach on our support. We need to support the Serbian Gov in taking Kosovo back again. 100% American.

Tomorow, the end of a narrow road.
Monday, the beginning of an avenue for Kosova, into new life and freedom.
All the rhethoric, ooops, I misspelled, again and again.
Future is what counts. Past is too painful to remember.
Congratulations to all the posters, you have had one heck of the commentary.

Mike---you talk of "petty" concerns, I wouldnt call the three decades long expulsion of Serbs, Roma and other non-Albaninas from Kosovo(WITH AN "o") to obtain a majority "petty". Your "new borned" nation is the product of rape, and a demonic seed. Kosovo is Serbia, don't ever forget that. We won't.

Swiss, I am sure that the EU has that in mind. Now that Kosovo is viewed as an independent nation, no need to harbour the Albanian refugees in their own countries anymore. Albanians, you will soon see the true benevolence of the EU hand, enjoy.

Storm clouds approach, the sky turns black, flashes of lightning peal across the sky, hail stones the size of boulders come crashing down, your legs become like rubber bands as you scurry for shelter, your heart feels like it is going to explode, Kosovo is torn from its rightful owners and is given to (fill in the blank). The EVIL that comes around in cycles throughout history has returned. Again it has chosen the Balkans and the Serbs to start its campaign of terror. Like a wave it will engulf the entire planet. Dark days are ahead!

I hope this will bring stability to the Balkans, rather than start conflict.

Oh for Rugova's sake SiriusBlack lighten up. Other Albanians here also thought it was funny. Besides, you're about to detatch yourselves from Serbia in less than 24 hours. Have some fun! What are you doing wasting your time acting all indignant on a Serbian website? Shouldn't you be gearing up for the celebrations by now?

Congratulations on your multilinguistic skills. I speak German, Serbian, Spanish, and can read Greek, Bulgarian, and Old Slavonic.

Heck, since the rule of law is often ignored, just declare independence retroactively to February 14.
(Roger7, 16 February 2008 16:19)

Well they have been in the right school for the last 10 years and EU is just showing them how to move on in that direction.
Just hope that when they finally manage to eventually get a 'country' status, we (in switzerland) will be able to send back all these fake refugees controlling 50 pct, if not more, of the drug and prostitution.

"New borned" -- newly born... there used to be a major cigarette campaign, back in the DAY: The original motto was "I'd rather fight than switch." So then any number of English teachers, schoolmarms
and assorted grammarians vociferously complained: "Poor grammar!!" (forget about the hazards of smoking). So the newly reformed ad declared: "What do you want: good grammar or good taste?!"

My point is that it is all too easy to poke fun at people who misspeak and misspell our language (and can you imagine all of the grammatical gaffes when some of us speak attempt to verbally communicate or write in Albanian or "Serbo-Croatian" (as we once called it)? Some of my attempts have provoked so much laughter I thought I was performing a comedy routine.

In our excitement and giddiness, we are all bound to make mistakes, and "New Borned" should be the worst such offender. Best wishes to all on this very exciting and historic weekend!

Roger7,

It is not our style to introduce declarations or law upon law in order to try and prevent or force things that are inevitably going to happen.

That is what the Russian puppets in Belgrade are masters of

Oh and yes, thank you for laughing at our flag - It is one of the oldest symbols of national identity in Europe, introduced in the 15th century by Skenderbeg.

I am actually quiet fond of St George's flag and would never in a million years be disrespectful to it.

Congratulations to our Kosovar brothers and sisters on their long awaited declaration and international communities recognition of the free will of our people.Eventhough unfortunatly I wasn't born a Kosovar, I still, in my heart and mind, regard myself as one.

Mike,

I guess all of those who are against Kosova's Independence at this point in time can do nothing else but complain about petty things with their derogatory remarks. Hence, your comment doesn't come as a surprise at all.

I bet you can't spell either anything that is not English. Try and spell for me please in Albanian the wrongly spelled message which you found so damn funny. You can also try Serbian (Latin or Cyrillic), French, Italian and Greek. Those are the only ones I understand.

Spell check is the last thing that goes through their minds right now. They are flying high with emotions and probably started drinking two days ago :-)

Independence is finally a reality. It is a good day for everyone in the Balkans, apart from nationalistic vibes. It means that a new chapter of long lasting peace is finally between our people.

Roger7

I think that they should have declared independence two days ago, February 14th, Valentine’s Day.

Then, the flag remains the color red and the mythological character Cupid, holding a bow and arrow, could be placed in the center of this flag.

As Saint George is the patron saint of England, so Cupid is the patron saint of this “new borned” country.

Heck, since the rule of law is often ignored, just declare independence retroactively to February 14.
