Guys, I'm reading all these comments on "what would you do if it happened to your homeland?". If my homeland denied basic human rights to the population of that part of the homeland for decades ... I'd be ashamed of my homeland.

Funcakes,

You are so funny!

Like it or not the whole of Kosovo is part of the republic of Serbia.

If you think Kosovo may split off from Serbia, why may Northern Kosovo not split off from Kosovo?

Double standards?

Kosovo independence will be illegal. No UN seat. But OK, you got 50% unemployment.

Hey, don't forget we in the West are paying for you!

Kosovo is Serbian!

Have a nice weekend!

Blero,

Kosovo has always been part of Serbia and indeed it will be, that is the fact and it's our rigt to treat it that way since we do not recognise it as a Thachistan state. When I said bye,bye North it meant that k-Albanians will definitely never have any control over Serbs and not only over Serbs in North but in South as well. I don’t know how much will you really gain by your pseudo independence but you certainly cannot make decisions over lives of the Serbs. To conclude, there will be no official partition but institutional and administrative. If I was a politician I would just go step further and replace all Serbian cultural heritages from South to the North. That would be just an act of precaution.

Thats just fine. Serbia will take the North part of Kosovo. I would like to thank the EU and US for helping Kosovo become independent and giving Republika Srpska a precedent with which to declare independence from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"Like it or not, the laws of Kosovo and especially the laws envisioned in the Ahtisaari package will be applicable in all the municipalities of Kosovo, as recognized by the most powerful countries in the world.

Anyone who violates these laws will have to respond to the government of Kosovo, KFOR, NATO and EULEX.
(Funcakes, 15 February 2008 12:59) "

Hate to have to burst your bubble Funcakes, but the truth is that you should not expect KFOR, NATO and EULEX to march together with Pristina into the north anytime soon. Quite the contrary. These forces will place themselves BETWEEN the north and Pristina -- at the Ibar to be precise. You see, the West is terrified of violence breaking out after the UDI before the entire world. They want to maintain the peace at all cost.

Look on the bright side though, the truth is that Pristina never controlled the north since 1999. Therefore the north is not yours to lose since you have never possessed it in the first place!

add this little churkin sample from yesterday to the mix, 'he expressed strong warning at the UN in case of any act of repression against Kosovo Serbs who might disagree with possible unilateral declaration of the province's independence'.
unfortunately we're headed for partition, it's plain to see.
but on the other hand, that's not a bad start. serbia will have more formal control over one part of kosovo than it did since 99. the rest will have eulex, ie be controled by eu. and serbia will work on the rest as well. one way is if eu gets so scared of the balkans that it offers us early membership, but that's a bit far fetched right now. all in all, maybe status quo was not such a good idea after all, and maybe more talks were also a bad idea, after all ;)

And that’s it! Albanians can say bye-bye to the North. Serbs south from Ibar River will be under Belgrade’s control as well and fully enjoy Serbian institutions in Kosovo. I support them what ever they decide and hopefully no one will use force against them in order to oblige them to accept Albanian governing. Albanians should accept the reality and understand that Serbs cannot live under their control. Serbs simply do not wish to live with them under Albanian implementation of the law, justice and security.

Bmrusila,

What happened to your “Kosovo will always be Serbia” rhetoric?
Now it is only “North of Kosovo will always be Serbia”. A great step down don’t you think?
Kosovo will treat everybody as equal. That is guarantied within the law and will be monitored by European body. Remember that Russia could have been in that team.
I only wish that Serbia offers that to Non Serbian population in Serbia.
Serbs in Kosovo have a great chance to be an integrating part of the Kosovo.
We definitely want them to do that.
We lived together for centuries and hope to d that for centuries to come.
I don’t believe that your comments actually help Serbians in Kosovo.
It is sad to see that Albanians in this forum actually care more about Serbs in Kosovo than you do.
Albanians in Serbia were unwanted; we will never do the same mistake.
Albanians don’t want Kosovo where other nationalities are unhappy.
The offer of friendship is in place. Take it, let’s help each other. The same goes for Serbia, help Serbs in Kosovo with help of wisdom. Do not use them or your political gains.
I cannot believe that even today the government of Serbia still uses the rhetoric that Milosevic used to do.

This was expected and Kosova institutions have the answer ready for this scenario.

"In case the forces in charge of security and preserving peace in Kosovo overstep or change the mandates they have been granted by UN SC Resolution 1244, we will demand protection from the corresponding organs and institutions of the Republic of Serbia," one of the conclusions said.

I like this part of the declaration which in other words says that they going to do nothing. They will call Serbian forces to fight against NATO troops but only if the NATO forces don’t respect 1244. KFOR will respect 1244 part that deals with the security and will offer security to all in Kosova, especially K-Albanian enclaves in Zvecan.
What are they saying is stated in Ahtisaari package but they are putting it the way that would suit the Serbian public.
