If you want friendship you have to behave as a friend. Trying to snatch away illegally 15% of serbias territory is not a friendly act.The best thing to do would be to brake diplomatic relations with the US and to throw them out of Serbia. Perhaps accompanied by a statement that Serbia as well would like to be friends with the US.

People ask the Question..

WHY IS AMERICA SO DESPERATE FOR KOSOVO TO BE INDEPENDENT?

I ask this to the K-Albanians as much as anyone else...Why do you think the USA is hell bent on this CRAZY idea?
I would expect the K-Albanians to say ANYTHING to justify this - but you all know in your heart of hearts that this is totally wrong.

Ataman

As (also) American, my serious apologies for this hag, she does represent only a minority of Americans within her failed government our people voted for being misled. Shame to her.

Also my apologies to Albanians for whatever future actions will come from US. Like Serbs, you don't need enemies if you have friends like that.

To both: better deal with your neighbors directly than rely on such "friendship"

Tom,

I was a very active poster on the forum of the French site Figaro years ago before it got closed. I had hundreds of occasions to respond to anti-American Europeans like you.
You all have the same problem, an inferiority complex versus the US. You thought and wished naively that by regrouping some 450 million people in the EU you will be a superpower. Well nothing like that. You are just a commun market. Because of that a lot of you are jealeous and envious of us so much so as wishing openly our total economic and military collapse. Well you can wait for it a long, long time.
You are talking about level of contempt of people like you?
What will that change without any power? Billions in impuissance and envy. Big powers throughout history were always envied and not liked too much. It it so much better to be envied and feared than be pitied as an insignificant country.
And about education you can not teach me anything. I have a European background, finished my higher education in France.

It's reassuring to know that the old "send in the marines" mentality in still alive and well in your "great" country. Do you not realise the level of contempt that billions around the world hold for the good ol' USA and its military adventures around the world.

Whether it be the Middle East, South-East Asia, the Balkans or South/Central America the record of your involvement has been one of mass slaughter, support of tyranny, and a total blindness to the destruction caused in your name.

Maybe if a few of you bothered to educate yourselves about the rest of the world you would see this. But ignorance is bliss, they say.

I commented yesterday and B92 censored it because I outed the US as Serbia's real enemy. Once Serbs are ethnically cleansed out of Kosovo by NATO, I don't see much of a future for B92 in Serbia.

How would America feel if the large ethnic Cuban population of Miami fought for independence of that part of Florida.. Cubania!!!!
This matter with Kosovo is tantamount to supporting terrorist activity for personal (state) gain!

JRobbins,

Don't you think you are going to far by speaking in the name of all of us?
You are only entitled to your own opinion. Personnaly I am very proud of our intervention in 1999 and our strong support of Kosovo's independence. It is a very noble, just action, worthy of our great country.

Nenad

"The U.S. secretary of state told Congress yesterday that America was offering friendship to Serbia at a time when Kosovo Albanian leaders were preparing to declare independence from Serbia."

If this is diplomacy, than diplomacy for really dumb people. Is she thinking someone in Serbia is such an idiot to take such a friendship serious? Or is this an attempt to threaten us with this cowboyish "you are with us or you are against us"? If the U.S. really wants a friendship with Serbia it will first have to learn about our a little bit more european culture.

Hey all you Americans, please don't get offended by the Serbs not accepting your offer of friendship.

Like I said, just give us California and we'll call it even, OK? That state is full of Latinos anyway so why would you want it? OK, its got Hollywood but you don't really want those crazy people, do you?

Nick

One of the biggest problems we have in America is people breaking in.

How many people are trying to break in to Serbia or Russia?

Joe

pre 16 godina

Reading the friendly messages of the Serbs here I got the impression that we will not be "amigos" for the next 40-50 years. How sad. I don't know if we can take it here in the US. First the cooling of the US economy and now the refusal of our friendship by the Serbs. This is too much. How will we manage all this?

Luke

pre 16 godina

If Condi was able to say that and look convincing, I say she has quite a poker face. In this case, it would have been prudent just to keep quiet, now it seems as she wants to twist the knife in the wound they were part of creating.

Jess

This is what my country's foreign policy has degenerated to. How embarassing. Yesterday in IHT, Frank Wisner blabbers on and on about how"... Serbia never reached out honestly to the Albanians" during the um...."negotiations". Yes, yes. Serbs are evil because they never reached out and offered independence. Really? Unbelievable! It schocks the conscience.

And now, Condi wants you to take some cash, maybe get a few tourist visas for visiting Disneyland or Vegas.... and then shut up, sit in your corner and act like a good "friend".

I love my country so much, but the balkans is an issue we have gotten wrong for so long. Shameful.

Talk is cheap,
all of us who pay tax dollar do not count on politicians like you to spend it on supporting stealing and making of monolitic society that does not have any human rights and that was build strictly on taliban principles.
That is why this time we vote for change.
Enough of sick and demented policies that make no sense to normal human being.

To Serb Panel:
Calm down. It's called diplomacy, not like Putin with his street language. Serbia has every right to refuse the offer of friendship. By all means Serbia can hold the grudge for as long as it likes.
The advice from everyone is:
It's time to give up, don't fight a lost battle.

Friendship? Friends don't try to steal land and give it to their narco-terririst friends. Friends don't try to reward ethnic cleansing of Serbs in Kosovo with illegal and immoral NATO states on their territory. Is this woman for real?
You offer me friendship?

Mike

Oh Condi, enough with the soundbytes for the press. You couldn't be less interested in cultivating a friendship with Serbia if you tried. You spearhead a secessionist movement in a sovereign country, you say from Day One that "Kosovo will be independent no matter what", you say you'll recognize a UDI even outside the jursidiction of international law, and then you expect the very country you and your government is humiliating to be friends with you?

You really don't get out much from the Washington Bubble, do you? With what you're doing to Serbia, and with what your administration has done in general in the past 6 years, I'm embarrassed to be associated with the goverment you lead.

US foreign policy is shameless and brutish and will backfire on them in due time.

One day the Muslim Albanians will stab the Americans in the Back the same way Afghanistan did in recent years. But until that day the Americans had better prepare a large budget to support their basket case experiment in the Balkans because its going to be expensive to sustain this nonsense and God forbid some sort of war happens which is always possible, the Americans will find themselves in it alone just as they are in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Sure Ms Rice

Protect our churches, people, property, allow freedom of movement and offer, say... the state of California as compensation and we may have a deal!

There will be no partitioning of Hollywood either as we want those crazy people. We may even hold the next Eurovision song content there as a sign of appreciation!

How could anyone refuse?

Vuk

Shall we play the game? Shall we really accept Kosovo's illeagal independance purely to improve the quality of Serb's lives.

Maybe we should because I dont think we can continue depriving ourselfs of prosperity. Injustice has been commited against us but we must try and ignore it and focus on the future, Rome fell and so will America.

I wonder how 'friendly' the US would be if another country recognised the illegal annexation of 15% of its territory?
