In history Moldova was a Medieval principality, corresponding to the territory between Eastern Carpathians and Dnister river. The eastern part known as Bessarabia ( Basarabia ) now is independent state named Republic of Moldova. The name Moldova is more connected with the western part, now part of Romania. In 1859 Moldova ( western part ) united with Vallachia, by common election of the same person as the Prince of the two principalities.

It is a good opportunity to meditate about what happened with Bessarabia in 1940. Just look for "Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact" and you will find out why now we have in Europe two Romanian states, why communist president Vladimir Voronin doesn't like Romanians and why he promotes that he speaks "Moldavian" and not Romanian.
