Suzi,

Wake up, the train on Kosovo declaring independance has already left the station regardless if Serbia agrees with it or not. Its a matter of when rather than if.

The decision Serbia has to make now is, do you want to be part of Europe or become isolated?

Seems like the nationalistic elements of the Serbian government want to do anything they can to prevent Serbia getting closer with the EU.

To be quite honest, it will be your loss, you need the EU more than the EU needs you.

Tadic is irrelevant on Kosovo because entire Serb nation will reject separtist aggression.
The end game is to keep Serbia whole. Illic is doing his job. Kostunica is doing his job.
Kosovo is Serbia.

Martin, what is the foundation of your 'the majority in Serbia wants the old-fashioned style?'

Did you miss the presidential elections three days ago? Highest percentage of voters since 2000. Majority voting for Tadic. NOT Nikolic.

And I'm pretty sure Nikolic is capable of doing lots of extra damage to Serbia. I'm also glad to see the majority of the Serbian voters (So don't mean the 'Serbs' living abroad and commenting in English) agrees with that assumption.

You don't want to elect someone to be prime-minister just because 'he can't do more damage' than the previous guy.

I have been saying for sometime now that Serbian givernment will fall. This government has not dealt with the priorities of Serbian people, that EU integration but they have instead tryied to deal with impossible issue, Kosova. It looks as thisi goign to cost them a lot but more to Serbian population.
Question:
Is govenrment going down just because Kosova is gona declare the Independece and there would be only political party leaders of Serbia that would oppose it?
It seems as this is the scenario.
Good luck to both Serbia and Kosova.

And we care what Ilic has to say about this because??

All of this is beyond shameless: Like Milosevic, Kostunica and Ilic are only using Kosovo to keep whatever is left of their power.

Mr Ilic and Kostunica should stop dithering and join forces with Nikolic. Then the people have a true choice of DS/G17 etc vs Radicals/DSS/SPS.

If they want the old fashioned style (which I believe represents the majority of Serbs) they will select Nikolic. If they want a softer approach they will choose Tadic & Co.

I do not think Nikolic can do any more harm to Serbia than a bumbling Kostunica has done. I would give him a chance and see what happens. Ilic should go back to Cacak.

ZK UK, remember that the EU is the one that should put conditions to Serbia! Serbia needs the EU more than the EU needs Serbia.

Unbelievable! WHO is undermining Serbian unity, who is threatening new elections, who is blackmailing, who is dividing Serbia between traitors and alleged patriots?

Mr Ilic obviously thinks that 1990s tactics of labeling people traitors will work.

This moron is threatening to press the self destruct button if we dont do as he says. I say let him politically assasinate himself and Kostunica if that is what they want.

Blackmail from a sore loser is not a way to run a country.

“It is now obvious to everyone in Serbia why Tadić was in such a rush to hold presidential elections. We pointed to that danger throughout the election campaign. Our proposal is to freeze relations with the EU until the Union clearly sets out its position on Kosovo,” Ilić said.

That is the only option Serbia has to guarantee its territorial integrity. The EU needs to make a choice whether it wants Serbia as a whole or just Kosovo. It has awoken those in Serbia who were sleepwalking into the EU.

The EU made the stupid mistake of revealing its hand too soon, presumably by US pressure. This has now worked well for Serbia and has provided absolute clarity on its position.

I also expect this to delay the UDI.

That might be the best solution after all. I hoped for the survival of the government but it seems that dispute is so strong that it will be difficult to overcome it. It is pity because all we need now is unified stand, same goals and priorities. Can’t they all cool their heads, seat and think what the best is at this moment for all of us. Didn’t they realise that only by unity we can reach the goals in terms of national interests? Any way, the EU’s attitude towards Serbia will radicalize Serbian electorate even more in the coming months and we can expect the government formed by SRS, DSS-NS, and SPS.

As for freezing the relationship with the EU, I am not sure how wise that would be (even though my wounded ego says just do it) since we have 51% of the people who would not agree on this and their opinion must be taken into consideration. This is the percentage that voted for Tadic, so I presume they would not agree on freezing the cooperation with the EU.

I have a message for Ilic: forget about Kosovo!!!It is more important for Serbia to join the EU. Serbia should concentrate on meeting the conditions for becoming an EU member state.
