PRINCIP you will not give up Kosova because you already gave it up. It is only very few days up to the day when Kosova will become officially Independent.
This is the truth, not the myth.

This is a great day for the future of all Serbia -- Kosovo included. Bravo to Tadic for rising above the scheming of the Kostunica bloc. He called their bluff, and now he is the president in his own right, with all his rivals suddenly a lot less relevant.

Advocates for Kosovo independence are left in an interesting position. He presents to them a less intransigent, more sensible ear than his opponent. He also continues to present to the world the face of a new democratic Serbia. And perhaps some are going to need a reminder about why Kosovo still requires independence from the nation that has just re-elected the moderate Tadic, in spite of a great deal of nationalist provocation from all quarters.

The independence movement has considerable momentum at the moment. But the Radicals could only have added to that, while Tadic might yet have a chance to do the opposite.

Yestarday serbs had two options:
first to chose the way toward europian union integration (without Kosova)
second to integrate in the Russia, ofcourse without Kosova.

By voting for Tadic the citizens of Serbia now have a chance to join the EU. However, the road towards EU membership will be long for Serbia since there are other states ahead of Serbia on the road to the EU, namely Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro. Serbia will probably join the EU at the same time with Bosnia, Albania and Kosovo. Moreover, Albania is ahead of Serbia on the road to EU membership since Albania has already signed the SAA.

Vlatislav,

I congratulate you on accepting the Tadic - Serbia has won in showing the world that it is highly credible with regards its democracy. True there is a definite split in the way Serbia would want to continue protecting its Sovereignty but the fact remains Tadic too has had a close run thing and he I am sure will understand and appreciate that Serbia's strength is best served in a united voice - nikad nedam Kosovo i Metohija - we will never give up Kosovo & Metohija !!!

Bganon,

now will be the opportunity for Tadic to show the reality of his words in action. Ultimately it is not Tadic nor Kostunica but the whole of the electorates representatives - Parliment that have control of Serbia's destiny.

Congratulations to Mr. Tadic, I think he was the best choice for Serbia. Not too radical, not too liberal (with regards to the EU and Kosovo in particular), even though he will have to make some very tough decisions during this cadence, I think he will do a good job.

The citizens of Serbia have voted. Tadic won. Congratulations to him.
He will now have to work hard to keep Serbia whole.
Kostunica is doing his bit and there is no question about his performance, however, Tadic will have to work closely and in co-operation with Kostunica.
Yesterday I celebrated Saint Sava slava in my church in Australia, (a little late) and I looked at the frescos on the walls of my church and there for all to see is the Holy Prince Lazar, Kosovski, and directly below him is Saint Sava. Every Sunday I and all Serbs are reminded of Kosovo and Metohija, that it is our spiritual heartland, that it is Serbian territory and this is what Boris Tadic needs to remember when he is talking to the European Union members.
It is impossible to remove Kosovo and Metohija from the Serbian psyche or Serbian territory.
Albanians must restart talks.

Congratulations Serbia for choosing the man who will sell out your heritage and religion to muslims and western atheists. I would advise the Church to throw you out but I bet most of you who voted for him don't belong to the Church anyway. Today's "democrat" is yesterday's "communist".

Serbia had two ways to go through. One was towards Russia and one towards Europe. Serbia chose to go towards Europe. Russia is against Kosova's Independence, Europe is for Kosova's Independence. Therefore, since Serbia chose to go towards Europe who supports Kosova's Independence, that means that Serbian people also are for Kosova's Independence since they headed towards Europe.
Now even Russia will be mad at serbs for choosing to go towards Europe.

Thank You.

Noël,

Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava (CCCC) is according to you probably an ancient Byzantine-Albanian phrase that the Serbs stole from some imaginary culture and people after they occupied your "country".

"Vlastislav, they way Serbs are going about Kosova issue I see soon replacement in of CCCC in Serbian flags to 1224.

All I have to say Long Live Independent Kosova."

laki NY,

You still do not understand the true legal implications of UN 1224. There will not be an independent Kosovo, a EU/NATO protectorate at best that needs to be protected from itself. I wonder how long it will take before the extremist of the Kosovo Albanians will become so desperate and stupid to attack NATO or the Kosovo Serbs. I wonder what the so-called Kosovo flag will look like. Probably the Albanian flag due to a lack of creativity and as a sign to show your true intentions. Just enjoy your rush of excitement while it lasts.

To those bad mouthing Kostunica, he did not consent his support because neither Tadic or Nikolic are fit to run Serbia properly. It was Kostunica who stopped Kosovo for getting any sort of early independence not Tadic and co.

I frankly don't care which of the two won the Presidential election as the President has no real power in the country, it is the PM who runs the show and Kostunica has done a excellent job of that, the hatred displayed to him from Albanians is proof of that. Once again I would just remind Serbs to smarted up, Kostunica is the real patriot. I fear you will all realize this once it is too late.

On another note, Tadic enjoy your victory but remember despite being the victor today you must remember that half the nation is still against you!

Yes the victory was fair and square. In fact it was apparant quite quickly as functionaries from SRS were rarely seen as the press conferences. SRS knew they lost from early on but thats democracy.

The odd thing is that Kosovo wasnt an election issue at all - even though its being mentioned at this site all the time.

Neither the Radicals or the Democrats mentioned it. It was only DSS that decided to mention the subject and only then after they had alredy lost after the first round (as an electoral tactic).

So we have a weaker Kostunica, a stronger Tadic and generally a slightly stronger Nikolic. How this will affect government decisions will be interesting. The implication is that we have a weak Prime Minister with little support. The public supports Tadic so unless Kostunica gets with the program elections could be called leaving Kostunica a marginal figure. Of course Kostunica will try to use the threat of joining with the Radicals but we have seen that is just empty words. And we know the Radicals would swallow DSS in the end. Kostunica isnt so stupid as to press the self destruct button.

This was not a referendum on Kosovo, most parties have very similar positions. This was a referendum of Europe and supposed pro European forces won.

The cooler heads prevailed. This is really good for Serbia. Mr. Tadic won and he did not need the endorsement of Kostunica. That will be a strength in a new relationship between two of them.
I was watching his victory speech and he did not mention Kosova/o. He did mention all Serbs living in Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Macedonia but not Kosova/o. He just said "in the south".
I think he is a dealmaker, and is going to help Serbia a lot. I wish him success.

The weak and dithering Kostunica was the real loser, though he was not a candidate. This man's mutterings have been voted on, and the people said NO. Kostunica should be fired as soon as. It is good to see so many Serbs happy today. Tadic improved as the campaign went on, and Nikolic had no answers for the next generation.

I cannot deny that I had rather seen Tomislav Nikolic win win today, but that is democracy. The result does show that unfortunately Serbia is (still) divided and that is why others can easily take advantage. I hope that the re-elected president is aware that soon there will be a huge post-election hangover when the Kosovo Albanians declare their illegal independence and I hope that it is clear what has to be done. It would be good if Tadic and co will also represent the 47% of Serbs who voted for Nikolic. That means that an EU membership will not come at any price, that closer relationships with Russia will be good and that Kosovo Serbs will not be betrayed like the Krajina Serbs were let down. I am sure that loads of Kosovo Albanians will share their sarcasm with the more serious and interested people who visit this site. More now than ever I would like to say "Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava", Zivela Srbija, Zivela Srpska, and Zivela Kosovo i Metohija and may God bless us all.
