Princip, wake up please! You repeated the same things over and over again, you are starting to believe them :) Thankfully you just resort to Copy&Pasting the comments, otherwise it would be really bad for you, and good for the keyboard manufacturers.

Vatican issues cautious statement after visit by Kosovo leader

Vatican, Feb. 4, 2008 (CWNews.com) - After Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) met on February 2 with Fatmir Sejdiu, the president of Kosovo, the Vatican press office issued a statement emphasizing that the Holy See was not changing its policy regarding the possible independence of the Serbian province.

The Vatican "will follow developments on the ground with particular attention," the official statement indicated. The communiqué went on to say that the Holy See looked for a peaceful resolution of conflicts there, respectful of the rights of all parties.

In his talk to Sejdiu, the Vatican revealed, Pope Benedict made a pointed reminder that Kosovo is a land "where Christianity has been present since the first centuries of our era." The Christian minority in the predominantly Muslim province-- and particularly the Orthodox of the ethnic Serbian population-- have been the objects of intimidation and violence since the warfare that rocked the province in the 1990s.

To Dr Levy:
"The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Israel records 63 Albanians as “Righteous Among the Nations”, a title recognising those who risked their lives to save Jews. Romania has 53 such honourees, from a population six times Albania's. Russia has 124". (source The Economist http://www.economist.com/displaystory.cfm?story_id=9321421)
but I guess you can find that by your own.

Ask your friends Moscow-Bukarest-Belgrade ask your Serb firnds how many Serbs are remembered in Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial- you know the number of Romanians and Russians.

"Private firms in the West will need to have a great deal of assurances if they were to invest in the province and as exemplified in the last 8 years they will not invest if there is any question over status legality!"
(Princip, UK, 3 February 2008 15:12)

Princip, if the US recognize Kosovo's Independence, US firms might just go and invest in Kosovo, if Germany recognizes Kosovo's Independence, German businesses might go to Kosovo. And so on for all the countries that will recognize the Independence.

"2. This is no longer even about independence but in reality a declaration (if made) about continued Dependence on the US and a "few" EU states. "
(Princip, UK, 3 February 2008 15:12)

Every country in the world is dependent on other countries, nobody can pretend to be totally independent, especially if it comes to economy. There are some really good examples out there on what it means to be dependent on the US, see Japan after WWII and where it is now. And all Western Europe too. The alternative for the Kosovo Albanians would be to be dependent on Serbia or Russia. That didn't go well in the past.

"Like I said before the desperatly required economic development will never take place while property rights are ill founded - while Serbia continues to have Sovereignity as set out in UN SC 1244, Helsinki Final act and all other international norms and laws. Any international firm will be weary of investing in a Serbian province without obtaining Serbian consent first since the firm cannot guarantee long term possession of any of its investments! Serbia will persue this in all courts possible."
(Princip, UK, 3 February 2008 15:12)

These threats convince the Albanians even more that they need to go their separate way. In most of the Serb posts here I have seen this feeling of superiority, actually it is a feeling that Albanians are inferior. They are not. You are really underestimating Albanians. You identify yourself with your religion and think that it is the same with Albanians. Well, it is not the same. As long as you filter things with these wrong judgments, you won't see what is really happening.

No surprise the Vatican would befriend Kosovo - the old WWII alliance of Zagreb-Tirana-Vatican never really ended. Has the Vatican ever apologized for Jasenovac? No, but it made the last Habsburg a Saint.

EA and his fellow Albanians for some reason cannot comprehend the fact that Serbia is the legal successor to Yugoslavia. That means that wherever you see the name Yugoslavia in Resolution 1244 it now refers to Serbia.

For some reason i don't think this will be the last time i post this comment.

Princip,

Keep hold and dream of your Resolution 1244. Everyone knows that this Resolution refers to Yugoslavia which doesn't exist anymore thanks God! Kosova will be fully and formally independent and nothing can stop it even Russia jointly with Cyprus. The pan-slavs policies can't hold hostage any longer other nations in the region. Don't be obssessed with dates when it comes to Independence of Kosova. Everything is being co-ordinated with the international community and let's get this Serbia election out of the way......I know they have been a pain for Kosova.....)))

"Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said that Kosovo was prepared to be independent as early as today. Thaci repeated that Kosovo knew the independence date and that the citizens would duly be informed. "

- what happened to the 28th Novemeber 2007 or the 10th December 2007 aswell as all the other dates set?

Nothing happened then in all those occasions and it is not going to happen on the 6th February either! In any case this so called declaration is;

1. Illegal as it is not sanctioned in the UN - where as Serbia's continued Sovereignity is. Any state will be acting outside of international law in attempting to recognise such a secessionist declaration of Dependence.

2. This is no longer even about independence but in reality a declaration (if made) about continued Dependence on the US and a "few" EU states.

- and there's me thinking we are continually told status Quo is untenable !?

Private firms in the West will need to have a great deal of assurances if they were to invest in the province and as exemplified in the last 8 years they will not invest if there is any question over status legality!

Maybe the Saudi's will continue to strengthen their investment in the building of Mosques and madrasses but how does this really help economic development? Like I said before the desperatly required economic development will never take place while property rights are ill founded - while Serbia continues to have Sovereignity as set out in UN SC 1244, Helsinki Final act and all other international norms and laws. Any international firm will be weary of investing in a Serbian province without obtaining Serbian consent first since the firm cannot guarantee long term possession of any of its investments! Serbia will persue this in all courts possible.

One thing is clear Serbia will continue to strengthen its institutional ties across the whole of its province. Beyond that NATO will be tied down when they could best be utilised in the war on Terrorism somewhere else the US had sided with so called friends - Afghanistan! One could say the ethnic-Albanians are indirectly helping the Afghan Taleban by retaining US troops in Serbia's province!

This was a great thing that Kosova/o president did. His predessesor Mr. Rugova had a very close relationship with the late Pope John Paul II, who also embraced christianism and the Western values for his peoples of Kosova/o.
A support from Vatican is crusial for all other Western countries who are dragging their feet in recognizing kosova/o as an independent country.
