bmrusila I do believe that you are writing with honesty about your beliefs and respect you for not being tribalist. I am not a tribalist either although I admit having a low tolerance for stupidity generally. I dont stand for anybody who tries to manipulate me or insult my intelligence.

You say that you will recognise the president of Serbia whoever is elected. Can you remember the attitude of SRS on this question last time? They said that they did not recognise Tadic as President 'he isnt my President, he's your President' (implying that all journalists support Tadic) Vucic said on more than one occasion in talk shows.

With respect but I find your complete faith in the monarchy a little worrying. I would not mind giving our prince a try as King - constitutional, modern, democratic monarchy, but its not by heart, its by head. I would get Aleskandar to work promoting the country.

Smile,

I was surprised seeing your division of Serbs. You categorized Serbs on pseudo and actual. It is true that Serbia was always divided between the East and West but do we have to still insist on this division. As long as we divide ourselves on pseudo and actual, we won’t be doing great and thus going backwards. As long as we make these divisions we cannot move forward. Can't we forget East and West, can't we just focus on ourselves without expecting anything from anyone, can’t we all be united when the most important issue in our country is about to be solved, can't we all be united when preserving the interests of the country, and finally can't we all respect the will of the majority? The democracy is the will of the majority and who ever our president or Prime minister is we should accept, don't you think that we were supposed , as a nation, to respect the will of the majority. I know that you are not satisfied, but who is? I just cannot understand why such love for the EU when that EU keeps us Serbs isolated while democrats run the country, isolated for 8 years? I respect your opinion and wishes, but please do not divide us any longer on pseudo and actual. I want us all to move forward, but not, really not at any costs. However, if Tadic wins, which I expect he will, I will just accept that fact because the majority selected him. If Nikolic wins I will again accept him because majority want him, but be sure I will never split us because of that on pseudo and actual. I just hope one day we will be monarchy again, and then there will be no more fears whether Tadic or Nikolic is going to be a president. But of course, the majority of the people will decide in referendum about monarchy.

Monarchist by heart!

Zoran,

Ron Paul is running to bring up the issues, not to win. His ideas of cutting everything from NAFTA, CIA, Federal Res, NATO, etc, are beyond moronic.

I'm for Hildog, I want her to finish that the other Clinton started.

How is the populist vote in the states democratic? In 2000, the people voted Al Gore but the electoral college went the other way..what a democracy. Look at where Bush got us, in a deep hole, I guess the electoral college knew better, or got payed to play that way.

I think Zoran is speaking of “degrees” of democracy. The form of democracy employed in the US is seriously outdated, and the two party system is incredibly flawed, undemocratic in nature, and fosters opposition rather than cooperation. Exactly why I’ve never voted and never will. Multi-party parliamentary governments are far superior. I too, would welcome a return of the Monarchy (especially Montenegro) in a role similar to that of the Queen.

The major drawback to democracy is the fact that the majority of people really aren’t that smart nor all that informed. In its worse form, it is nothing better than mob rule.

That being said, I actually think Serbia has a fairly open form of democracy with strong representation of opposing views and ideas. Let’s face it, in the US, there really isn’t a lot of difference between the Republicans and the Democrats, they conspire to “oppose” one another in order to further the status quo and avoid big changes and threatening special interests.

Most certainly Serbia has a lot of propaganda and foreign influence going around, but regardless of whether Nikolic wins, his party wields enormous power in Serbia. He played KingMaker in the last election. I feel Serbia is actually one of the most democratic countries right now.

Zoran your comment reminds me of all those people who say they are against privatisation and claim that 'nema nista od toga' but yet you find them blockading the post office trying to get shares in public enterprises.

It is completely ignorant to me. If I truly believe something then I follow it through to the end - I do not oppose something and then hypocritically try to gain benefit from it.

To be clear if Serbia is a dictatorship then there is no use in voting - there is no if or but.

Or you are completely wrong. In which case the chances are you are making mistaken political choices in any case.

Zoran - you comment makes no sense. Manipulation of the election stops it being 'democracy'. And what is this other form of democracy you speak of?

The problem with thi election if anything will be the closeness of the vote. It could be within a percent. That will leave lots of recounts to do and possible arguments (a la Florida 2000).

Zoran

NO, I am not suggesting a dictatorship, I am saying you are already in one. Apparently you need to learn more about American style democracy which Serbia is trying to copy. I am for a Monarchy with an elected parliament. The King (executive) would make sure the elections are on the up & up. He should choose the PM and their would be much less corruption and outside interference, at least as I would envision it. I say "go and vote Serbia" because ignorance is bliss. I still vote here in the States even though I know better. I will vote for Ron Paul. He has no chance of winning but it makes me feel better (illusion). Hillary has already been picked here (if I am wrong then great).

spot on bganon. well except for the anarchy bit obviously ;)
and what goes on in the minds of srs supporters i'll never know. but i have thought about it. of course, i'm not talking about pseudo serbs who see this country as a monopoly board to be played with. i'm talking actual serbians and voters. my conclusion flawed though it may be: of course srs voters expect no good to come out of radicals in power. but they are defeatists who have given up long since. they are pessimists who think nothing will ever get any better, so let's at least spite someone, upset someone, make some sort of miserable waves. it's the tavern mentality, losers' mentality.

Zoran, I understand you're starting to fear that your favorite candidate might not become president in the end? So that's a reason to start crying foul play?

bganon

pre 16 godina

Zoran if the President has already been picked then why are you telling people to go and vote?

I'll take the illusion of choice in a democracy rather than a dictatorship if you are suggesting that as an alternative. On the other hand we could give anarchy a try...

Zoran

Does anyone realize how easy it is to manipulate an election outcome even with observers? Why do you think America pushes so hard for its form of “democracy” all over the world despite the fact that this form of government has so many inherent flaws? Your President has already been picked, now the illusion of choice has to be presented on Sunday. Go and vote Serbia!
