I think that its Serivovic's right to support any candidate she wants to, there is no problem with it at all, its a free and democratic choice.
The people of Serbia have been victims of overdosed propaganda for a long time, so now its no surprize that anyone can support the ultranationalist party of Seselj-Nikolic.
As for the song stolen... I am not trying to make any judgement since i am not an expert in music but the song of Serifovic does sound similar with an albanian song singed by a singer named Soni. For those people who like to listen to both songs, Here is a link to listen to both of them and compare http://escbigmouth.blogspot.com/2007/05/serbias-eurovision-song-is-stolen.html

Also, from what i remember, 3-4 years ago Serbs were removed from the Eurovision contest becase it was found that the serb song was stolen from Georgia. I hope someone brings more information about this since i am not sure in which exact year this happened but I am sure that Serbia was in fact removed from the list.
Thank You

Michael John, don't know what albanian newspaper yuu read but the investigation is already over long time ago! no plagiat at all!
Anyway, the first poster was right. Maybe Marija now thinks she achieved something by being embassador for the EU. But there are rules. As soon as you don't follow the path the EU wants you to be on, it is over. Who is she to think that this will be forever? As soon as we have a new winner of the songcontest Marija will be forgotten all over the world and that was it.

(Michael John,

Oh boy, now we can learn that even wining euro song composition is a plagiary.

Yes, after the historical characters, historical facts and historical monuments Serbia have stolen even a Eurovision composition. What else I am going to learn over here. To be honest I never heard of such nonsense. Serbian media did not report anything on that. I use opportunity to ask b92 if they have something on these Albanian accusations.

Besides, who told you that radicals are homophobic. If somebody does not support LDP policy it does not necessarily mean that the person is a homophobic. I my self for example can hardly digest LDP but I do support gay and lesbian rights and share the opinion that they should be given everything they asked for.

As for Marija Serifovic, she has never said publicly that she is a lesbian but she never denied it as well. Nonetheless, what ever her sexual orientation is, is not of my concern, but who ever and what ever she is, she has right on her own opinion as she has right to support certain political or any other ideology.

Michael John, If that was an Albanian song why didn't Albania stop her from performing it in the first place?

I just can't belive all the stuff that is thrown at Serbia. We are very petty now. If Nikolic wins it's because he will be democratically elected. Notice the word democratically. Why go and punish a singer for supporting a candidate just because he is not the candidate of their choice?

Why not go up in arms against all those American celebreties who constantly say something about their candidates and openly either support or speak against one.

Serbia is a free country like America and their celebreties have just as much right to their opinions as American ones do.

Stop with the double standards.

What is wrong with representing any candidate you wish? Surely this is OK in a democratic society.

Looks like in the EU it is not OK? Marija is only exercising her democratic right to speak freely and if this is a problem, then Europe has a problem.

First Serbia is not democratic, and now it seems to be too democratic because it allows her citizens to back any candidate they wish.

Europe, please make up your mind. Do you want dictatorship in Serbia or democracy?

well, guys and gals, i have a little "molitva" of my own: i pray that someone explain to me why an interesting and sensitive (probably queer, as we say here in frisco) is showing the 3-finger sign and supporting the radicals-- this is not the first such statement from her. to have such an artist here in the states, openly going for a Bush-types, or worse -- is really hard to imagine. the radicals have the worst reputation, not just of homophobia, demagoguery and racism but of outright violence, against opponents and ethnic minorities. why are you people (whomever you are) supporting such types? and so openly. it cannot be understood by civilized people around the world, and i don't care how high the d-mn unemployment there is...

Michael John

It has been widely reported that she is gay. Either that or the western media is lying (which it has been known to do ;)

However, the point here is that by supporting Nikolic, she could potentially swing some gay votes in his favour. It seems the EU doesn't like that and neither does the Pope, who is a homophobic himself!

As for her song being an Albanian one. You might be right. Just like all of the churches in Kosovo are also Albanian. Just as all the victims on Kosovo are Albanian, but just wait a second. The latest is that she is actually an orphan who was born in Kosovo by Albanians! Now if that proves correct, the song contest will be moved to Kosovo, just after the Albanians declare independence!

However, whether this is true or not depends on who wins the election!

Michael John

ZK UK,

How do you know that Marija is a Lesbo? Has she ever made a public statement to that effect?

Just because she is unattractive and overweight does not make her a lesbian.

Does Nikolic know she is a lesbian? The Serbian Radical Party are known to be homophobic. Their thugs have beaten Gays and Lesbians before. Does she realize that she could be in danger of being a victim of SRS goon squads.

BTW, isn't her Eurovision title for best song in dispute because it is thought to be copied from an Albanian song. Music experts are investigating this charge. If the song is found to be plagiarized won't she and Serbia suffer further embarressment?

ZK UK

pre 16 godina

Good on her for defending herself. So all she did was support her preferred political party and why not? Just because she is a lesbian, does that automatically mean she shouldn't?

Pete

pre 16 godina

Exactly how does she not represent the views of the EC? Can you be a little more specific, its easy to throw out an accusation. While you are at it, show proof that the SRS wrote her letter. Just because Marija doesn't support the Wests candidate in the upcoming election you want to penalize her. I guess democracy in the west means "we support your decisions in voting BUT... ONLY if they correspond with our CHOICE of the candidate". Basically, we are being forced to live under dicatorship. Thank-you Mr. Tadic, thanks for making so many good friends for Serbia.

PS. I bet the SRS also wrote the song Molitva!

Bruce

To be honest is up to the EC to decide who is their ambassador, and if she no longer represents the views of the EC she cannot be the ambassador. It would be better for her to acknowledge that and renounce the position. That way she would retain her dignity, and also it would not seem that she just accepts any role offered without looking what it entails.
Also this letter is so scripted, it is quite clear that it was produced by the SRS - that is Serifovic's right to do so, but it should at least be made clear that that is the case.
