Stevan,

Serbia and my country Romania need the help of the EU in order to develop from an economical point of view. Serbia and Romania are not rich like Switzerland and Norway. After 50 years of communism Serbia and Romania need the EU in order to develop. Therefore, the number one priority for Serbia should be joining the EU.

Emanuel,

"….How can Serbia put conditions to the EU?…"

What is so strange about that? As you can see, it's easy, our Premier just did it. I fully support him.

"… It is the EU that should put conditions to Serbia concerning the signing of the SAA. The EU is not obligated to admit Serbia as a member state. If Serbia wants to join the EU it MUST RESPECT ALL THE CONDITIONS IMPOSED BY THE EU…."

You are completely wrong. It seems that you see joining EU as a some kind of capitulation? It's a business contract, both parties must have something to gain from it. We are not desperate to join EU. We would joint only if it is in our interest, if it brings us benefits. We shall consider joining only as an equal partner with full rights. But if they aspect us to be some kind of second class member with all kind of restrictions and to give up our national interests and suverenity, and do as told by few big countries, then, no thanks, we are not interested.

Serbia! Go by your own way. Be neutral. Keep a good relation with any country that treat you as a PARTNER.

Zbyszek, I applaud your commitment to support a country that wishes to keep good relations with the country that treats her as “a partner”.
Here is a riddle for you.
Shouldn’t the same apply to Kosova Albanians?
All they ever wanted is to be treated as equals.
Every request for equality resulted in Kosova Albanian deaths, imprisonment and torture.
I also applaud your loyalty towards your “old masters” - mother Russia (assuming you are Polish).
It is funny though, I visit Poland at least 6 times a year, I know 100s of Poles and every single one of them looks at Russia with a huge degree of caution.
I keep hearing sayings as “nothing good has ever come from Russia” (well except Anna Kournikova”).
It is good to see that you think differently (not judging here).

How can Serbia put conditions to the EU? It is the EU that should put conditions to Serbia concerning the signing of the SAA. The EU is not obligated to admit Serbia as a member state. If Serbia wants to join the EU it MUST RESPECT ALL THE CONDITIONS IMPOSED BY THE EU. THE SIGNING OF THE SAA SHOULD NOT BE LINKED TO KOSOVO. Kostunica is making a BIG MISTAKE by putting conditions to the EU.

My congratulations to Serbia for signing the Gazprom-NIS deal. The Russians put money on the table; the EU just blows hot air. Serbia (and Bulgaria) will find that this Russian pipeline will earn them more money than anything the EU dribbles to them. Soon, the Serbs will have to decide who has been lying to them for the past sixteen years and who is willing to treat them as equal partners.

right so, Mr. Primeminister...

they should better think it over, since some western journalist has put it quite right: the west needs Serbia more than Serbia needs the West.
it´s that simple.
(Jovan, 24 January 2008 00:35)

Oh yeah? Than why are you living abroad? Why are the majority of Serbs in this forum living abroad?

Serbia is a third world country compared to the west. If the EU embargoes Serbia...Serbia is doomed.

Zbyszek

Keep it that way Mr. Kostunica. EU need Serbia more then Serbia EU specially now after agreement with Russia. As you said: "All Serbia (legally) or just (illegally) Kosovo".

They want to remove a visa requirement, A big deal. Derange of young Serbs for second class work. It won't take long that unemployment in EU and US will drastically increase. Take a look what is going to be with US economy. Up to now it was so called "propaganda of success". Same way as it was in communist countries. National Security Agency decided to introduce National ID. It is just for citizens protection.

Serbia! Go by your own way. Be neutral. Keep a good relation with any country that treat you as a PARTNER.

what else should Kostunica say? should he say that the EU has time enough for to wait what's going on next two weeks, next two months, next two years? should he say, that his political zigzag looks already unserious from the outside?

Kostunica is right to say what he said. SAA or illegal EU mission. All the EU need to do is go through the UNSC to get a legal resolution to allow the mission. Whats so hard about that? They will have to make a choice. Does the EU want Serbia like they say they do? Well then they know what to do. If not then Serbia will have no problem standing on its own along side the EU.
