Congrats to Tomislav Nikolic in his presidential win in the first round. People are not seeing the full picture infront of them. Tadic will gain more votes from the LDP supporters and some other minority parties. However, Mr. Nikolic will gain even more votes than Tadic in the 2nd round because he will get all votes from the Socialist Party and if not all, 90% of Ilic's votes. If you add all these figures together, Nikolic will be Srbija's new President 02/04/2008. There is no way that Kostunica will support Tadic, but will support Nikolic. This will not be said in the public because Kostunica will support Nikolic privately. The reason behind it is due to the DS and Tadic calling for elections with Kostunica's approval.

funny Milan! maybe Serbia should have several presidents, depending on the topic of the day. funny Serbia! maybe Milan should become president leading those who do not understand democracy. seriously spoken: as an EU-citizen who knows Serbia quite well, I wish you a nationalistic president for to show the world day by day, what's the main problem of Serbia - and also, that it isn't solved yet. take an honest look at the mirror, Serbia, watch your true face and then show the world.

Koštunica's political background doesn't change much from Milošević so it is in his honour to support Tomislav Nikolić and not to play games by "supporting" Boris Tadić. I would say that presidential race should be between Tomislav Nikolić and Čedomir Jovanović. First represents the nationalist President and second represents europian President. It shoud be up to people to choose who should be the next president and where Serbia should head to. Boris Tadić is nothing. He was a president orchestrated by Koštunica and not himself.

bmrusila, if Kostunica is such an influential figure why did his recommended candidate in the first round only get 7.6%? Ilic could hardly have gotten less without Kostunica's "support". Many people I have talked to are embarassed that the Prime Minister is engaging in playground politics. It certainly will be knife edge in the 2nd round and it's a pity that Kostunica the least popular of the 3 people involved will play kingmaker. Can Kostunica expect whatever assurances he demands to be kept when he behaves in a untrustworthy manner himslef?

“It will be interesting to see what the voters who did not participate in the first round will do - how many will participate and who they will support. The outcome of the election will depend on them,”

On the contrary it is dependent on the candidates to ensure their voterscome out and support them and for this the candidates most give the electorate confidence and inspiration that Serbia as a whole can progress if they are to get their vote!

The electorate wish to hear strong, clear and confident messages from it's President - they need to be sure that he will strongly uphold Serbia to the highest potential while retains its Sovereign heart!

Haha, now all depends on Kostunica's position. He has planned this all along and that is why Kostunica choose Ilic to run in the first round. He knew if Ilic did not run then all these Ilic's votes would go to Nikolic and there would be no chance for the second round. That leaves enough room and time to Kostunica imposing his policy via new president. Now, Kostunica is going to negotiate and flert with both candidates and who gives more assurances to preserve Kostunica's vision that one will be the president. I guess Tadic must give firm guarantees to Kostunica that he won't flert that much with the EU. If Tadic continue with his soft policy with the EU then Nikolic will gain Kostunic's support and probably become a president.
