This just proves that the Western proxies in Serbia are trying to harm Serbia on orders from their masters in Austria, Germany etc...The deal will go through with this increased offer. If it does not the Western proxies will be exposed for what they really are: Western proxies. And they will lose all credibility, if they have any left and a deal would still go through but with proxies no longer in the government this time. Either way it will go through.

"Gasprom could pull out in anger. "
No, bganon, they will not. They are capitalists like all the others. If they will have to, they will pay the market price. If not, of course, they would take it even for free!

"The FT adds that big European players such as Austria’s OMV and Hungarian Mola have expressed their readiness to pay considerably more for NIS"

There are other business considerations more important than the amount of money offered. Austria and Hungary may offer more in terms of initial cash injection but apparently nothing more thereafter for these relatively energy resources poor countries. Russia on the other hand has tremendous reserves of oil, gas and other energy resources and can provide the stable supplies so coveted by even the EU itself.

bganon,

You are right, I would sell out NIS to Russia as well. I don't think we would left without anything if NIS was sold to Gazprom, on the contrary, the deal can be made in favour of both countries just without some external meddling into our business.

I'd be more than happy to accept the Russian bid - provided they beat other contenders in a tender.

What is wrong with this government? They run the risk of alienating Gasprom if they favour them first then decide on a tender (what they should have done in the first place). Gasprom could pull out in anger.

If that happens it will be the Serbian government's fault.
