The number of Serbs in Croatia dropped from 581,663 to 201,631 according to the 1991 and 2001 censuses. A drop of 380,032. And that ignores the "Yugoslavs" who dropped from 106,041 to 176. Some of which would have redesignated themselves as Croat or Serb etc. The 2011 census will reveal the full extent of any return.

Where did you find the statistics you gave us on Serbs in Croatia? I think you have underestimated the # of Serbs that left during the war, and overestimated the # of Serb returnees.

Nevertheless, this is one discussion I'd rather have you be in the right. Thus, those stat sources would be helpful.

It is good to see they are going in the right direction. Also of the 280,000 Serbs that left out of a total population 600,000 Serbs in Croatia during the 90 to 95 war already 130,000 returned back to Croatia.

Mr. Hoxha,
For your information, the Speaker of the Serbian parliament is half Croat, one of the deputy Ministers is a an ethnic Muslim, and there are much more minorities represented in the Serbian Government than there ever will be in the KLA government in Pristina

Maybe the Serbs from Kosovo would accept such positions if they didn't need armored personel carriers and a NATO escort just to leave their house.

Croatian governement showed that they are a democratic country and that they welcome minorities in their government.
The kosovar government also offered one of the deputy primeminister positions to the serb minority but the serb minority were not ready to accept such high position.
I wonder if Kostunica would want one croatian or albanian as his deputy primeminister.

Bganon,

spot on and I agree this is an opportunity to afford the best chances for the future. Ironicaly the opposite is forced up the Republic of Serbia and the EU constantly suggest partition rathern then upholding sovereignity and integration of ethnic minorities who amybe a local majority!

At this stage Pupovac is right to do this.

This is the last realistic chance to return Croatian Serbs who desire it and its important that Croatian Serbs are in government to represent their interests.
