I answered directly to Olf, and it was certainly not in any way aggressive or insulting...

but B92 censored it.

I´d say that the this kind of journalism is somehow creating the impression of how it was under Slobodan Milosevic...

The real estate has gone up in kosova ,since Kosova serbs started to sell their proprties. Now a house within the city limits in Kosova sells between 50 up to 100 thousand euros thats a good mone to buy a real estate anywhere in serbia. And Albanians seem to buy ewerything on the market.
And for those serbs who dont have anything to sell then is hard i understand they will remain in Kosova and they will obey the rules and the laws of country of Kosova, and those who wish to come back and live in the country of Kosova are more than wellcome,as long as they obey the laws of the country of KOsova ,just like any other Kosovar that lives there.

They are all more than welcomed to stay. Kosova will be a free land with free people, and because of the EU and US presence, it will probably be the most free and open country in the Balkans. Paranoia of today will be replaced by the trust build upon the respect for the law and not upon values based on nationality, religion, sex or origin. Kosova is determined to move fast forward into being a free and prosperous EU member country. Serbia? I don't know, and frankly I don't really care anymore at this point.

Mike,
There are 6 milion Albanians living in Turkey at the moment. 99,9% of them are descendants of 800 000 Kosovar Albanians deported from Kosovo as "turks" from 1913 to 1941.Can a small percentage of them return if they wish to Kosovo? Let's say 10%! Should they have their properties back or "just compesation"?
Fact is that Kosovo Serbs who HAD properties choose to stay and will stay, no matter what.

Jovan

"According to Rogozin, as far as the position of the West towards Kosovo's secession from Serbia is in question, one should remember what Winston Churchill said to British Prime Minister Arthur Neville Chamberlain after the latter had signed in 1938 an agreement on Czechoslovakia’s surrender to Hitler - You could choose between dishonor and war, and you chose dishonor, but it is war that you will get on top of that."

well, I can remember the albanians...how they wrote about Russia would bend before "the one and only global superpower"...

and now we can read how the US are just saying:
""NATO is looking forward to working with him," said alliance spokesman (NATO) James Appathurai."

doesn´t look like Russia is bending, kids.

let´s see what future brings.

" while 1.4 percent of them would fully support the province’s independence".
Those 1.4 % must be those 2 individuals who accepted MPs posts within the "government" of KiM.
BTW - who conducts these polls, under whose patronage and guidance and with what motives in mind? Well, we all know - but it would be decent for someone to say it in public :-)
Kosovo Serbs did not intend to leave Kosovo prior to March 2004 either, but the Albanian mob was rather convincing.

Wim,

You are absolutely correct. The dean of the Seton Hall University's Intl Relations program is Ambassador Nick Menzies. The Ambassador was deeply involved in the Balkans as the US Ambassador to BiH, senior position in the US mission in Kosovo, as well as an advisor to the ethnic - Albanian negotiation team.

He has stated that in his advisement roll, he informed the ethnic - Albanians that they should bend over backwards to any demands on minority rights, as long as they get sovereignty and independence. This is because once they have that; they can do what they want.

Anthony

pre 16 godina

It is sad that the majority that do stay will be North of the Ibar, possible some areas of Strpce and maybe the areas adjacent to Serbia proper in MNTF - E (Kosovska Kamenica and Gnjilane Municipalities). The remaining small communities in Kosovska Vitina, Klokot, Vrbovac, Grncar, Binac, etc. will probably empty out. Decentralization is hopefully an opition for encouraging Serbs to stay and for IDPs to return. If the south empties out there goes all hope for those looking to return to village surroing Urosevac, Lipjan, and most of Metohija.

The NATO forces must do a better job in proteting the returnee communites and putting pressures on UNHCR to better fund returnees projects. This is so because all these homes and Churches destroyed were done so after NATO's involvment, therefore it is our responsobility. You break it, you buy it.

Wim Roffel

pre 16 godina

The report says nothing about the division between Serbs above and below the Ibar. My guess would be that an ample majority of the Serbs south of the Ibar will leave while most of the Serbs north of the Ibar will stay for the moment.

That may very well change once Kosovo's government manages to implement an Albanisation policy for Northern Kosovo. The Ahtisaari plan as the EU wants to implement doesn't give any guarantee that this will not happen. And the eagerness of Kosovo's government to keep the option open gives good reasons to fear their intentions once the peacekeepers have left.

Mike

pre 16 godina

Once the EU assumes full control of Kosovo, one of the first orders of business is to make plans for the full and unconditional return of all K Serb IDPs. Original property, if able, needs to be restored, and just compensation should be given to the families in the event it cannot. If the EU Mandate cannot even secure this, there's no point in further considering Kosovo's future as a viable and stable entity.

B. Vllasi

The oppinion of Serbs, Roma, Turks, Bosniaks, Ashkali etc. is very important as Kosovo will be a multi-ethnic state.

I am not surprised by the results although I'm convinced more Serbs will stay than stated in that survey. We have to wait and see but the Kosovar Political elite (including minorities themselves) should take care of minorities as much as possible, since they are a very presouse part of Kosovar Culture.

Sorry Olf but Kosovo is an issue which affects every single Serb on the planet not just the Kosovo Serbs, which I may add have been put through hell by the their Albanian neighbors who want nothing more than to create a "second Albanian state". This goal of their is to remove everything Serbian, which is everything in Kosovo, the name, the history, the Serbs.

We are proud people and will never allow it to occur. We may have our hands tied by NATO and the west but this is temporary just as everything in life is temporary.

We object to the double standards imposed on us and will never accept anyform of govenence from a peoples who have shown that they support the KLA and other terrorists.

Kosovo is Serbian, regardless of who lives there that can never be changed.

Olf,

statistics from polls like these are what you want them to be;

"82.4 percent of Kosovo Serbs believe that the fairest outcome to the talks process would be Kosovo remaining within Serbia in some form of essential autonomy."

- no further comment as they have my whole hearted support, the Rest of Serbia, Russia, China, Indonesia, South Africa etc etc...who all uphold and promote International nroms and laws !

Yes, one more poll done from the sofa in the living room while taking a coffe and watching TV. Even if the poll was done for real the results are not promising. Of course majority want to stay since the old people make majority and they have no where to go. They rather take the risk to stay than to end up in some center for refugees. However, still huge percentage would actually move out. I presume they were young people who see no future in Kosovo under the Albanian rule.

tim

Didn't previous articles, describing the make up of remaining Serbs, say that they were mostly very old? Where are they going to go?
Didn't another UN/EU rep. also say that the problem will be solved when the remaining Serbs die from old age?
When are the Serb refugees from Kosovo returning to Kosovo? Were they included in this poll?
I suppose secuirity dosen't rank as a number on priority because the Serbs have armed excorts, barbed wire etc. surrounding them.
So,I don't have any confidence that this info is valid. Just another propoganda piece.

I have been saying for months now that K-Serbs should be asked about their future not Pricips, Kates Jovans and ...that live comfortably somewhere in the west. K-Serbs can talk for themselves you see.

Many of you also say that security is the problem but only 13.5% said that this a major problem.
49.3% believe that Kosova will remain a part of Serbia .

It looks like Serbian Gov. is looking for scape route. Now they are going to put the blame on K-Serbs.

This news must have been shocking to Jovans, Princips, Kates and many other Kostunica politics lovers. K-Serbs can choose and they chose Kosova instead of Serbia because in Serbia they are second class citizens to like of Jovans etc
