Maybe, Luciano. But please enlighten me what is the difference between "Serbs", "Muslims", "Croats". For my uneducated ear how they speak sounds the same. I was told, there are two major dialects, one is more soft the other is less soft - but they are not even conforming the "ethnic" (???) lines. Does it mean, Serb = pravoslav Croat, Croat = catholic Serb and Bosniak = muslim Croat?

What about the buddhist of Slavic parents, natives of Gornji Milanovac who just converted? I see, if he is following Mahayana, he is Chinese. If he is following Hinayana - he is Thai. If he is following Dalai Lama, he is Tibetian. Now I understand. :-P

Info from Wikipedia - First of all, anybody can make changes in Wikipedia. But, do not get me wrong, I do not justify any of acts that were committed during the war in ex YU, no matter who did it. But, talking about ethnic cleansing, and using the statistic, please tell me who has, "statistically" the most displaced persons, as well as about ethnic structure of other places/countries in an ex YU area. Thanks for being objective!

This day is exactly what the Serbian people of Bosnia fought and died for. For a state which provides them with their right to self-determination. The same rights which were given the Muslims and Croats but willfully denied the Serbs by the West.

Congratulations on a day which all Serbs should be proud of. The war is long over now and the people of Bosnia are living in peace.

Unfortunately, the Serbs appear to be the only ones supporting the Dayton Accords these days, which as Kostunica said, are based on international law.

Resorting to Wikipedia Lenard? I see so you couldn't actually find a viable source could you?

Your comments are very boring to say the least. What about the Serbs in Krajna? the ones your compatriots maybe you yourself expelled and killed en mass? or the less than 2% of Serbs in B&H federation? Stop being so hypocritical. RS stands and will continue to do so. Serbia and RS will promote closer ties with each passing day and despite your liking which bares no concern to us, will happen whether you love it or hate it. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say your new year resolution was some common sense for once.

Anyways, happy anniversary to all of RS. May 2008 bring even more success and cooperation between Serbia and RS.

Lenard:
we are really going to take your comments very seriously especially that you rely on sources like wikipedia. And if you look at your numbers since you put them on there, the Serb population in RS increased by over 500,000 Serbs, while it decreased about 400,000 in Muslim population. So where did those 500,000 Serbs come from Mr.? But then again we are used to smart people like you saying that Serbs freely left, while Muslims were ethnically cleansed. And I really feel bad for people that rely on sources like yours to think that you know something. Most of us on here were in the war there. And guess what? I'm not there anymore. Wonder why? Its probably because Serbs cleansed me and my family too. Get real.

Is it not a testament to Serb tolerance that so many Muslims and Croats live in the RS?These must be the ones who did not take up arms against their Serb neighbors.

But Lenard 1996 was before many returns were made from abroad. You'd need a much more recent statistics than from a dozen years ago.

Additionally, notice all those extra Serbs - they came from the Muslim and Croat controlled areas and were ethnically cleansed from them.

How about the statistics of the Croat and Serb population in the Muslim-controlled areas like Sarajevo, or the steep decline of the Serb population in the Muslim-Croat "Federation" and Croatia? I notice you don't count the Muslims from the Croat controlled part of Bosnia neither.

Bosnian was a land swap. The Muslims and Croats now have land they cleansed from the Serbs and each other. They should concentrate on shaping that to suiting their culture so they can take responsibility for what goes right and wrong instead of always pointing the finger at others.

He said that in the coming period, apart from readiness to provide all the necessary support to the Bosnian Serbs, Serbia will continue to strengthen economic ties with the entity. Koštunica stated that Serbia urges respect of the UN Charter and Security Council decisions and that, as a guarantor of the Dayton Peace Accords, "it firmly holds that the principles of international law are inviolable and that the protection and preservation of all rights of the Serb nation are the duty and obligation that are based on the Dayton Peace Accords. "Where is the rights Mr. Kostunica president of Serbia of 690,000 Muslims ,Croatians and others still in 2008 ethnically cleansed from Bosnia in the Srpska entity and from their homes. The 10s of the thousands murdered and the 18,000 still missing and showing up in mass graves in Srpska entity. I guess like you say Mr.Kostunica it is only for the protection and preservation of all rights of the Serb nation ,on injustice murder ethnic cleansing that dose not include making things right undoing injustice. That Serbs and Serbia waged in ahoren dously dirty war in Yugoslavia in the pursuit of a greater Serbia. It looks that you very much support it and condone it and the Serbian government. Here is some stats of injustis By the spring of 1996, a United Nations census indicated that Serbs constituted 96.8% of the population of the republic. However, the republic's actions produced worldwide condemnation, the establishment of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in 1993 and the eventual indictment of the Republika Srpska military and civilian leadership for war crimes on the non-Serb population, killing, torturing and raping at detention camps, and the siege of Sarajevo).

In 1995, Republika Srpska came close to collapse in the face of military offensives by the Croat/Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) forces and a concerted two-week campaign of NATO air strikes. Bosnian territory under RS control was reduced by one third and it later acceded to the Dayton Peace Agreement, accepted on its behalf by President Milošević (Bosnian Serb leaders were not able to attend the talks as arrest warrants against them had been issued by the ICTY). Serbia and the Serbs should not have been rewarded in any way but condemned by the international community, international law and the Geneva convention.

According to the 1991 census of BiH, the population of present-day territory of Republika Srpska numbered 1,619,165 inhabitants, including:

* Serbs = 880,171 (54.4%)
* Bosnian Muslims/Bosniaks = 466,458 (28.8%)
* Croats = 150,414 (9.3%)
* others = 122,122 (7.5% 1996

In 1996, the population of Republika Srpska numbered 1,475,288 inhabitants, including:

* Serbs = 1,427,912 (96.8%)
* Bosniaks = 32,344 (2.2%)
