Totally agree, Bert. Cheers from the other side of the "pond".

Now that sentence probably confuses everyone. OK, little secret: the fact, I am American, Hungarian or Russian depends mostly on the fact, what side of my face I shave in the morning first. :-)

In a Dutch online newspaper there was an article about this event and Dutch readers could respond to it. Almost 90% were extremely negative about an independent Kosovo. First and foremost they did not like the idea of a second Muslim state in Europe. In addition, there is little hope that an independent Kosovo will be able to survive by itself, and it is viewed that Kosovo has been stolen from Serbia and the Serbs. Also some people thought that one day similar situations may occur in their backyard with ever increasing Muslim populations in many Western countries. It would not be surprising if similar percentages of people in most European countries (except Albania and Croatia, of course) think that way (this is 2008 and not 1999 when most people were manipulated by pro-Albanian propaganda). Unfortunately, people cannot complain because they are responsible themselves for choosing corrupt and incompetent politicians that seem to worry too much about popularity among certain world leaders instead of about real issues. As you might have expected I consider myself part of that 90% I mentioned before. My prediction: you may claim all kinds of things soon, but do not count on it that you will get it (and you will not be popular, although you must be used to that by now and so you do not care about it).

Mr. Thaqis government faces an uphill battle. He inherits the most corrupt administration in the entire world.

The previous administration did absolutely nothing to improve the living standards of Kosovars and no one is shedding a tear for their loss.
Kosovars are exhausted from poverty and the lack of prosperity.
Nonetheless I remain hopeful that things will change in the right direction. Sometimes it takes one to change many. Mr. Thaqi promised that he would tackle corruption, invest in the energy sector, education, health and infrastructure.

Lots of luck to the new government. They need to roll up their sleeves and get to work immediately. There is no time to waste.
