"I really do not understand why some people like LOWE and some others think that the northern part of Kosova will become part of Serbia. There is no way that even one centimeter of Kosova will become part of Serbia. In the northern part of Kosova lately american marines and german troops were deployed. The serbs know it very well what it is to have american troops in that area. That means that Americans are not going to even give one centimeter of Kosova to Serbia. They are determined to keep all Kosova within Kosova.
I understand that after the loss of Kosova, taking the northern part of it would somehow satisfy and soften the loss of Kosova but that is not going to happen.

Its very simple actually. The northern part is administered by the K-Serbs. Has always been that way since 1999. If the US and Germans want (or dare) to overturn that, they would have done so long ago. But they didn't. The K-Serbs will just declare continued allegience to Belgrade, and since 1244 will still be in place, there is little Nato can do anything about it. To use force against the unarmed K-Serbs there would provoke condemnation from the entire world and make Nato no better than Milosevic -- it is a horrible prospect that Nato wants to avoid at all cost.

In fact I would even state that far from going after the K-Serbs, Nato will in fact prevent the Albanians from disturbing the K-Serbs! Nato is desperate for peace in a post-status Kosovo, especially when that status has no approval from the UN. Hard to swallow for Pristina I know but you have no choice because Pristina needs to remain in Nato's good books!

Doni,

I am sure that Albanians already have all possible rights in Serbia wherever they live. It is their problem if they not use them and chose boycotte rather then working on the improvment of their lives and development of their region. I am not sure of what extra rights do you mean? If you mean having rights on thier own language to be treated equally as Serbian it cannot be but it may be as second official. They can have their own representatives in political life and equally involved in political life of Serbia. However, in that case they would have to give up from Republic of Kosovo idea and give firm guarantees that they never going to ask for it or to create unrests as they did in the past. But honestly, who would believe them after all they did? I have learnt and grew up knowing that Albanians are continously unsatisfied with what ever they were offered.

Michael John,

You made my day, now we are all shaking after your warning! Wow, you can do it better, I am sure!

Michael John,

Why are you so against Northern Kosovo joining Serbia? Why do you wish for the Serbs to be under Albanian control when they don't want to be?

"If the Serbs think they are going to get the northern part of Kosovo, they are sadly mistaken. Albanians and NATO will not allow this to happen! East Kosova, i.e. Preshava valley will also go to the Albanians. Especially if the Serbs are going to attempt to take Srpska. Remember, there are many highly trained and well armed NATO troops in both Kosovo and Srpska. Also note that there are no Russian troops in the region.
(Michael John, 8 January 2008 22:55) "

Michael John,

the Serbs are already in control of the north. Since 1999 in fact. And neither UNMIK nor Nato have opposed that. In fact, recent articles indicate that EU will tolerate a "soft" partition -- read in between the lines this means a quiet de facto partition.

To be honest with you I would rather that Serbs and other minorities in Kosovo had basic rights and no ministerial representation.

Can serbs accept that albanians have equal rights in serbia, in everything?

Certainly, why not?

at Peter,

Can serbs accept that albanians have equal rights in serbia, in everything?

why they never answer or avoid always this question???
why they have never accepted this and are not accepting it now??

Everything above is one reason more why Kosova will be Independent

"Yes Kosovo will split from Serbia. OUTSIDE the UN."

Unfortunately. I am also against this, but it's inevitable, so the most constructive for everyone would be to prepare for this.

"Actually Kosovo itself will split, with the K-Serbs in the north declaring themselves part of Serbia in a de facto partition. And no number of ministerial posts for a couple of K-Serbs can possibly override what is obviously the K-Serb population's overwhelming desire to remain tied to Belgrade.
(lowe, 8 January 2008 16:44)"

This is precisely the problem if Kosovo splits without a UNSC endorsement, one cannot stop countries recognizing Kosovo as a state minus the territories North of the Ibar River and Serbia as a state plus the latter, this is why I have always and still stand by the UNSC way, but if not, I hope the IC finds another solution that will work and that takes into account both Serbs and Albanians in the region ie. a responsible one.

Here I agree with you totally. I think the Kosovo government were being very generous with this offer, the Serbs should have taken it considering that Kosovo will eventually split from Serbia. This is probably something they will regret later, when it will be too late.

(Peter Sudyka, 8 January 2008 15:06)

It's what Belgrade does. Belgrade pulls the string on the Kosovar - Serbs, they have no choice. The "civilian" patrol which are really Serbian "army" could at any moment "take care" of any traitors. With "democratic Serbia" you are either with Serbia or against it.

Will be interesting to follow how two bitter rivals will rule the state. Two ministries to K-Serb, eventhough they boycotted the elections, that I call a generous offer. When was the last time the Serbian government did the same thing for their Albanian population? Eventhough my ppl suffered the most in the war, we are the first to reach out the hand and you ask why the Americans and most EU states support our goal.
