i think russia shouldn't ask for the respect of the international law since she hasn't respected it for decades and still doesn't respect it.I think the UN should not have veto any more .5 countries shouldn't have more rights than theother. In 21 centyry we should have a democratic UN where the majority decides.

You must have confused me with Ahmet Isufi. Your posting is directed at ME (use of "you" state this, you state that - why didn't you stop that). YOU must think I hold a lot of power!

Question to you - what has your "mother albania" done for you/albanian camp?

Remember how the US trusted the Taliban (during the US war in Afghanistan) or did you forget that? Why is your country (albania) suffering as it is after bush's visit & promise of help?

You, are the one that is utterly confused. You can't have your cake & eat it too. BUT, I must thank you for giving ME such power!

Finally, YOU have no right to state my citizenship. You need to do your homework as I am Serbian - 100% my blood, heart & soul.

Micheal John, please keep your Serbian propaganda to your self..where you there to claim that Ceku asked for permission? In fact there is an interpol for Ceku from Serbia..why wasn't he arrested in Russia? I will tell you why...Ceku doesn't "ask." If you think that Ceku went to Russia to ask for anything than you are dreaming my friend.

Let's all ignore Lavrov, he believes that the whole world is out to get Russia and isolate it.

Truth be told, who really cares what you think Michael John. To insult Russia as a second rate nation is pure stupidity. No matter if you agree or disagree, one should respect the will of other nations, with independant thought and goals beyond the western influence/imperialism.

Your second rate nation is a Veto weilding, space exploring, oil rich, nuclear powerhouse that has the US confused and backpeddling from Kosovo to Iran. Watch the US squirm as Russia provides high tech anti aircraft missles, the S-300's the Iranians.

I guarantee Putin and Russia have a more favorable world opinion than Bush/US.

Michael John,

I know Kosovo does! Without Russia, they will be another Taiwan. I know they don’t like to admit it, but Ceku knew it when he went to Moscow to ask Putin for permission so Kosovo could become independent. Of course, it didn’t work, although Ceku tried to spin it that way. The EU also listens, especially when the Russians cut off the gas. It is a bad move to underestimate your enemies.

Simple Mind, I thought you were Albanian? Why would you make a comment like that when oil is gold and Russia has lots of it?

Face the facts here. Russia will make life horrible for Kosovo. It’s not going to be an easy ride after Kosovo becomes independent. Russia will block you every chance you get and there won’t be much you can do about it but call a news conference. Some concessions would go a long way toward speeding up this final status. Offer partition since it will happen anyways. Be the bigger person here so we can move on.

Michael John,

you are very eager to write about the poverty of Russians, ...while you should rather take care of the K-albanians, who will experience some real difficulties if they stay on that illegal way... like some writer here wrote: "they will rather eat roots than live within Serbia"

seems like they will eat roots AND live in Serbia...
Russia´s future is golden...don´t worry about that.

take care, my dear friend Michael.

Lavrov, you should rephrase and say: US and EU will grant Kosovo independence and there's nothing Russia can do about it.

serbs better start taking those putin posters off their walls.

Abusing whi the right of veto doesn't mean compliance with International Law Mr. Lavrov. Wake up and see that Kosova can not be anymore under the Serbian sovereignity. If you are unable to wake up then....we are sorry for you!

Without UNSC approval independence won't really mean anything. It will be just called independence but not independence with all its attributes. If EU and USA are ready to breach the law then let them be but I am sure that many EU countries won't dare to recognize Kosovo & Metohija individually if such scenario takes place. It is important that Russia do not change its stand as well as Serbia.

Since B&H and Croatia where parts of Yugoslavia and I presume that they where eligible for separation why did you try to stop with a bloody war and barbarity not seen in Europe since middle ages.
You are right to say that Serbia was part of Yugoslavia which does not exist any longer. KosovO( making you happy this time) same as other parts of that federation want to separate form Serbia and Montenegro federation. There is so much on this topic to be said but I leave it here since I find it not unnecessary to explain for the 1 millionth time. By the way, I was never a Serbian citizens neither were you until recently.
Serbian posters, I thought that Milosevic hurt Serbia people enough don’t hurt them any more and start talking about K-Serbs a bit. Why don’t you ever mention them? Why are using them as a bargain chip. They are human beings and want to gave good life’s same as you.
Serbia thinks that EU integration is a better choice than Russia, I don’t know what Lavrov is up to. I bet that he will be surprised when Serbia turn their back to Russia, Serbia done it to Serbs in Bosnia, Krajina and Kosova why not to Russia?

The UN is only a valid body to make decisions when the US sees fit. The US has used their veto 13 times without question, but now that Russia is adamant about the use of the veto in the UN - it's up to the EU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UN_Security_Council_Veto_Power

With regard to KosovO, it's not up for grabs. KosovO was a part of Serbia during "Yugoslavia", it was NOT a separate republic as Croatia, BiH, Montenegro, Slovenia and now Macedonia & should not be treated as such.

Michael John

Who cares what Russia thinks! They are a second rate nation regardless of what Putin would want to have the world think. Outside of the major cities where most Russians live there still exists a high rate of poverty. Putin should address his country's great internal problems before he puffs up his chest and tries to act as a peacemaker. Remember, he was once head of the KGB and to this day influences its policies and decisions.

One cannot expect the permanent members of UNSC to agree on all matters. However there is one universal golden rule: Who has the gold, makes the rules :-)))!

The Russians say that granting Kosova independence without SC approval is illegal and that therefore they cannot support it. So be it. They are in their right to interpret this as they will. Where I have a problem with the Russian position is somewhere else. Someone who has such respect for the law does not go breaking the law just because somebody else breaks it, right? Which means that if the Russian support for international law is genuine, and not just some ploy for frustrating the West, Russia should not break the law by recognizing Abkhazia or whoever unilaterally.
