IOWE,
Just to correct you; Yaser Arafat never had a chance in hell to speak during UNSC meeting session behind close doors. he only spoke in front of General Assembly, and he was alowed only out of pitty. President Sekdiue and Thaqi having a seat in UNSC and Mr. Sejdiu given the floor is a huge difference from that of Yaser Arafat.

Milan/Iowe.. can you please ask your friends Lavrov Putin to allow me to take part in a UNSEC meeting of course as PRIVATE CITIZEN :))) i would be very grateful to you guys... :)

As far as I could observe from his other comments on Kosovo issue - Mr.Svilanović tends to have slightly "skeptical" view on Serba's demands and claims. I think that he takes only into account "what now appears to be" the state of things relating to Kosovo. Should we try to see only in very near future - only ten years from now, then I don't think we could say that such skepticism is really justified... Yes -Kosovo President was invited, which is - maybe - not so good. But how really sustainable is this would-be independence say just in ten years time? How will EU look in ten years, who would be the US president in ten years (I think someone very different to Mr.G.Bush or Mr.Clinton or Mrs.Clinton). Will the tension between Islamic world be solved in that period (judging from how it is handled now - I would not guess so). Will leaders ala Mr.Thaci (with large shadows in their past) be able to maintain support for such inviable and "intrinsically" dependent entity as Kosovo is and will be in many years to come? These are the questions which will much more influence the future of Kosovo - much more then the fact that Mr.Sejdiu was invited to UN.

I am just wondering how many countries at UN know were sernbia is?
the ones that know it, connect it to war crimes and ethinc cleansing.

But they know inocent KosovA which suffered, and that's why they respect it more.

“Never before has a prime minister or president of Kosovo been invited to enter the Security Council room. Never has anyone been called who does not represent a sovereign country, a UN member state or a UN mission – that has never happened. It might not be pleasant for Serbia, but its position has been eroded,” Svilanović said.

Maybe it's a sign of something that is.....

don´t exaggerate, Mr. Svilanovic!

since they have made clear, that Mr.Sediu is not speaking in function of a "president"...but only as a private person, ..I wouldn´t give a dime on that analysis of Mr.Svilanovic...

let´s see whether the western capitals are prepared for what is coming...

let´s just see what future brings.

Does this comment by Svilanovic indicate that the Serbs are throwing in the towel on Kosovo? I didn't think that Serbia would give up so easily. I guess Russia must have given them some inside information.

And they still can't get around 1244. No matter how they try to proced with this they, pro illegal indep camp, they keep running head first into 1244.

Serbia should take his presence there as a signal. This Svilanovic fellow seems like a political realist. Not many Serbs are realists though...they tend to like living in myth-induced trances.

To some in here it is insignificant what he says. But not long ago some of you said that only heads of states can talk at UNSC meetings. I guees that this will change from now on.
Russia has allowed for President of Kosova to adress the UNSC in order for Abkhazia to do the same without the consent of Serbia.I wonder what was the reaction of Serbian politicians. they did not make such a fuss

bmrusila

Of course that nothing is agreed. EU is divided , the entire world is divided on Kosovo issue and any step taken out of UNSC will be blatant breach of law as Russian Troika representative stated. I believe that any agreement won't be reached ever. Instaed of accepting reality on the ground and enforce more talks without external interference (and false promises), the EU with US rather create irreversible mess. Serbia will agree on anything as long as the resolution 1244 is in force, meaning that each new resolution on Kosovo must be made in accordance with 1244.

As for Svilanovic I say that the only eroded thing that comes from Serbia in Kosovo issue is his statemnt given today as well as previous ones. But what to expect from the man who cannot have personal opinion but the opinion of those who are paying him. He is nothing else but the Euoropean radio box for Serbia.

Svilanovic shouldn't be overly concerned. Yasser Arafat came to speak at the UN way back in 1974. Well, its been 33 years since and the Palestinians are still without their state.

In any case, the Kosovo leader came as a private individual at Russia's insistence, not as Head of State like Kostunica.

Serbian Politicians knew all along what the outcome will be but still chose to lie to their citizens. Shame on them. I guess 20008 is coming too fast for Princip & Co!

Milan

pre 16 godina

Mr. Svilanovic, please do not spread lies. Sejdiu has accepted there as a private citizen but not as a representative of Kosovo. What is your message? We all know what happened. People of Serbia are sick of repetitions. If you think that you are smart enough to run for the presidency, you should advice solution, but not repetition of daily news.

Even Serbian politicians see that Belgrade's position is ERODED.
I will not say anything else since this serbian politician pointed out well about Belgrade position.

"No basic agreement on status was reached nor was a legal basis for sending a European Union mission to Kosovo confirmed."

who said that an agreement needed to be reached in that meeting. time's up and serbs lost that opportunity. now it's a done deal.

and about the legal basis of EU mission, you can argue all time long, as you can also argue about the legal basis for independence but the decision for that mission have been taken and will be implemented soon.

Done deal. So, his positive makeover or makeup of the story is false and worthless

Peter Sudyka

With the situation as complex (and idiotic, for lack of a better expression) as it is, I am not surprized that nothing has been achieved at the last talks.

The US and Russia are too pigheaded and the EU too indecisive to even suggest other alternatives, which they could quite easily enforce. Less talk, more action! Talk is cheap!
