It is a pity everyone here insists on reacting in one or the other ethnocenric manner to every incident. I totally support Kosova independence yet it does not stop me having some sympathy with the small pockets of kosovar Serbs in the worst situation, such as those in Gorazdevac. Albanian posters try to show a little heart for this traumatised community where two children were shot dead swimming in a river and noone has ever been arrested. This is a far different situation to north of the Ibar, or even Gracanica, Novo Brdo or Strpce.

At the same time, having a fight with Kfor, the only force realistically able to protect them, the force that does actually provide them their safe convoys in and out of the enclave, doesn't make much sense. Which suggests to me that both sets of inevitable reactions here - either the demonising "Serbs always acting vioently" , or the equal silliness about this being some heroic national Serb uprising - are both essentially mindless, because in reality what we saw was a spontaneous fist fight erupt, of the type that happens everywhere everyday, get blown out of all proportion, and probably not reflect anything of the wishes of most of the local population, who, whatever their extreme frustrations, would probably see it as foolish to fight with the only force able to protect them (and no Serbs need to try to tell me that the Serbian army can come marching through great solid blocks of Albanian populated territory to reach this tiny, completely surrounded enclave to "protect" them - they would have no chance of protecting themselves against 2 million hostile people along the way)

How can anybody in Serbia believe that "this behavior" is the way ahed for a better future. Primitive and non democratic behavior have to stop before anybody outside Serbia will start to recognize the Serbs as a nation that belongs to Europe. These harsh words are coming from my heart. Serbia has thousands of good people within her population - their only shortfall is - that they are ruled and pictured by few individuals without any understanding for anything else than themselves.

For all ignorant here typing comments. This is the town that still remembers events from 2003 when 2 serb boys of 19 and 12 years were killed and 4 wounded while playing and swimming in the river nearby.
Let's all remember that killings happened 4 years after KFOR, Nato, peace force or call it whatever you like established themselves in the serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija.

Kids people, kids 19 and 12 years old were killed !

But I am sure you people will find out somehow that those kids were for sure guilty of something, they are serbs afterall and they deserved it.

Pathethic that they had to flee, evacuate with a freaking helicopter. I mean what is this. There were armed Nato soldiers and bare hand serbs on the spot !

Western troops that are protecting them they attacking and insulting very low, as Serbs know how to insult others with words that other civilized nations don’t have in their vocabulary . This was scenario prepared by Belgrade officials to play innocent people but KFOR solders were very cautious, villagers hit them badly and they didn’t respond , they were injured even they were armed .SRSG Mr. Rycker and KFOR commander Mr. De Mranach were shocked from the scenery. Serbia has forever lost Kosovo.

If I was UNMIK and KFOR I would immediately pull out troops and any other sort of protection that the Serbs have in that enclave and let them deal directly with the Albanians since they clearly don't need any protection.

I just saw the footage from this incident on the Public Television of Kosovo, and I am completely outraged of how this incident was provoked by a group of people from the village. I was analyzing the footage, and at one point one guy tries to kick a woman (KFOR soldier). Where are their manners? Unbelievable!
Also, I don't know why the article says that Rucker had to be evacuated with a helicopter when we all know that that's how he came there.
x Serbian Government: Don't think this is a test for KFOR, and so try to destabilize Kosovo. Even Rucker realized that this is an act encouraged by Belgrade and he said that in the interview with the reporters.
(That image of the guy trying to kick this woman soldier is still in my head. Wow!)

Generally there is no news on Kosovo on US sites. This time I was surprised to read that Serbs from an enclave attacked the top UNMIK and KFOR officials, who went there to tell them that they will be protected. It was highlighted that the incident was orchestrated by Belgrade. So "Vojo" and Simic are at work. Well this latest provocation will cost them the loss of any tiny remaining sympathy in the major Western countries and will accelerate the process of Kosovo's independence.

If the Kosovo Albanians, the EU or NATO thought that they can harass, insult or threaten Kosovo Serbs by will and not meet the willingness to defend themselves you must be living in a different reality. Maybe now in Brussels and DC it will be discussed that next time some Serbs should be executed and that should be enough to keep them under control. Be wise because that will inflame things even more. If Serbs are treated with respect they will behave. The constant talk about Serbs trying to isolate themselves is nonsense. The West has done too many things (embargo, war, double standards) to make the avearge Serb think that no matter what they do it is not good enough. The West likes countries that follow blindly and that have no self respect. Anybody that talks about the Serbs true face (blah blah blah) please remember: it takes one to know one.

they love us, we're charming people :) i thought about your point and there's no other explanation really. it could hardly be because those serbs in that enclave have for years lived surrounded by barbed wire and under armed escort under constant threat of death from albanians, so it would now seem really impossible for kfor to also attack them.

Kosovo Albanians. Always wining and not willing to take a close look in the mirror. I am sure that KPS would like to kill more innocent Serbs. Remember that Serb Security Forces will be most than glad to take care of Albanian drug gangs and war criminals (and not the ordinary people (that is the KLA job) whose large lack of willingness to vote shows that they rather stay in Serbia than live under Shariah (because that is the price you guys will pay since also the Mudahedin do not work for free)).

Unbelievable, when the Albanian majority used their right to protest, a squadron of Romanian police opened fire against them leaving two dead. Here Serbians psychically hit internationally sanctioned KFOR soldiers and you see how he just looks at him, turning a blind eye. Why not treat all the like? Why is not force used against this Serbian criminal gang? Does their status as a minority make them immune to legitimate psychical intervention by forces that are mandated to ensure peace and security?

FYI I lived in this village a couple of years back. It's way down south-west, on the outskirts of Pec. 95% of these Serbians haveno jobs and can't even work their land because it's too dangerous. In August a couple of years back snipers shot a bunch of Serbian kids swimming in the village. I moved after 2 months, no water no electricity, not even a grocery store. Only 900 people left there.

johny

This is Europe not Iraq, so the Serbs better keep it quiet. What's coming next from Serbs, putting IED's under NATO vehicles?
It is also hypocritical from the Serbs to talk about non-violence one day, about starting a War the next day, and actually clashing with the West the day after.

Serbs and Serbia will not benefit anything from clashing with the west, on the contrary they will be the biggest losers. I can't think of any country that has benefited from going against the Western Powers. Even Russia bankrupted when it closed itself to the West, while the West was doing more than ok without Russia. Both China and Russia started developing only after they opened up to the West.
So these anti-western developments and sentiments, if they're allowed to go further as Kostunica wishes will bring dark days for Serbia. Cuba and North Korea come to mind.

Bomb the Goraždevac! What else?
Why was he going there to start with? What reception did he and his murky entourage expect?
Accompanied with the general whose plans for Serbs are based on “ they will die out anyhow...”?
What’s next?
Let the “democratic” good-boy Albanians take revenge on NATO’s behalf ?

peggy

The Serbs have nothing to lose by fighting. If they don't do anythihg their land will be stolen from them.

They have also learned that the only language spoken in Kosovo these days is violence. The threat of violence has worked for the Albanians. If they don't get what they want they will become violent. Now the Serbs have no choice but to say the same thing, expcept in their case it's if they are not allowed to keep what is theirs they will keep it by force.

And they say that granting Kosovo independence will not set a precedent. It already has. NATO has given the Albanians the blue print on how to snatch land and make it theirn own. Now the Serbs have to keep theirs by force while the other separatists are also learning that this is the only way to get what you want.

I see Bosnian Serbs and Croats doing the same thing soon enough. I will fully support it as will many others. After all they will only be following the instructions sent from the US. Become violent and threaten war and we will support you.

As for clash itself I think there should be more information. Perhaps there is a good reason. Maybe Xavier Bout the Marnhac said something again against Serbs, provoking them, humiliated them and what not. I expect more information on the news.

But the funniest thing is the evacuation of foreign representatives who left the spot as soon as possible by helicopter. Can you people imagine this? They were frightten so much even though there were KFOR soldiers. What Serbs can expect from these soldiers when even foreign representatives do not trust them. I trully fear for Serbs in Kosovo

no, probably its just our pretty faces and amiable personality :)

Wow!)

Eagle and laki
please you make me laugh.I would say to equal a non armed fight with anti-democracy is idiotic.Any sign and i mean anything the Serbs do is viewed as undemocratic or biligerant
when the Albanians with NATO backing have been killing, raping and destroying all over Kosovo.Who knows maybe this was a test by NATO to test out the waters in the north and I for one am glad that Serbs finally stood firm.I have seen the level of respect or lack of that NATO shows. The north is Serbian if the Albanians try to take it remember they are the aggressor.Stand up Serbia to the constant bullying

KFOR Commander Lt. Gen. Xavier Bout the Marnhac -Is this the one who was considering life expectancy of Serbs?

As for clash itself I think there should be more information. Perhaps there is a good reason. Maybe Xavier Bout the Marnhac said something again against Serbs, provoking them, humiliated them and what not. I expect more information on the news.

But the funniest thing is the evacuation of foreign representatives who left the spot as soon as possible by helicopter. Can you people imagine this? They were frightten so much even though there were KFOR soldiers. What Serbs can expect from these soldiers when even foreign representatives do not trust them. I trully fear for Serbs in Kosovo

FYI I lived in this village a couple of years back. It's way down south-west, on the outskirts of Pec. 95% of these Serbians haveno jobs and can't even work their land because it's too dangerous. In August a couple of years back snipers shot a bunch of Serbian kids swimming in the village. I moved after 2 months, no water no electricity, not even a grocery store. Only 900 people left there.

If I was UNMIK and KFOR I would immediately pull out troops and any other sort of protection that the Serbs have in that enclave and let them deal directly with the Albanians since they clearly don't need any protection.
