let's see what Greece will say now with Russian subs in her waters. The country that doesn't allow any foreign ship or yaght in its waters. If Princess Diana and Dody weren't kicked out of Greek waters bc their yaght was non-Greek vessel, Princess Diana wouldn't have gone to PAris and she would still be alive. Now Greece, lured against her old ancient paleo-Balkanic Albanian neighbours for the last 150 years by Serbia, will find herself with yellow subs lurking around.
No Mediterranean country wants Russian subs in our most beautiful of earthly seas. Albania has an Italian base in Vlore, where the Adriatic amd Ionian meet, plus a Nato base in Durres.
It seems like Russia, with a hurt ego, wants to be a superpower again. Selling nuclear material to Iran, Korea, arms to Africa, fueling hatred in the delicate Balkans, divsion in the EU, extremism in Iran, China, being a bully to the Blatics, the arctic, being rude, etcetc. Where do they lead to? T
I've seen in Toronto my neighbours wearing CCCP track suits, and all over Toronto in general. I'm ok with it as long as it is not coming together with snobish behaviour, which currently it is. the Cold war is over, move on with your lives. Becoming an USA, takes more than money; it takes very hard work.

Orthodox Chritianity is one of three pillars of Russian statehood, and I understand that Kosovo is the cradle of Slavic Orthodoxy. Whatever the fleet (not that rusty, by the way) would be doing there, Serbia and Kosovo are important for Russia.

"Don't get your hopes up. Do you really think those Russian ships will be sailing up the Ibar to "save" Kosovo?
The Russians are sending a few ships on Mediterranean cruises because the rise in oil prices has suddenly made such junkets affordable for them. Just a few years ago, they were trying to scrap much of their rusting Soviet-era fleet, but didn't have the money even to do that.
In strategic terms nowadays none of this means very much. We are not living in the age of Catherine the Great.

No they don't need to go to the Ibar. The Serbs themselves are already there in the north.

The Russians probably want to put the heat on the US now drowning in its self-created subprime economic mess.

That country has almost no infrastructure, hospitals are places of horror, but let`s play "superpower". I wonder what they want to defend there with those old ships?

The Serbian Government has every intention of leasing land to the Russian army very close to Kosovo. This will be announced before the end of this year.

I guess the russians will be reopening their naval base in Syria. That base is so big it makes bondsteel look like a campsite. I wonder if Serbia would like to rent them some land for a new base? I recommend General Jankovic (or Hani Elezit if you prefer).
