The future of the west Balkans lies in the EU, but it won't happen without a compromise over Kosovo, says Vuk Jeremić.

Can someone get government ministers together to decide what their stance is. One says they will fight, others say they won't. I am confused.

If Mr. Jeremic wants a negotiated solution, then they should have used the last three years to come up with sensible options that recognize the reality on the ground. The world is tired of time-wasting wrangling (i.e. Serbia's definition of negotiating).

Believe it or not, as an Albanian, I like Jeremic. Previously Serbian politicians were totally out of touch with international ethics, political correctness and gave bad example to their people by fuelling the hate even more.
This is the first politician from Serbia with who I can see eye to eye and understand his point. I have watched him on interviews in Western media and he has grasped the modern common sense, or the way of thinking of the west.
I mean, even if I don't agree with him, he is doing his job, he doesn't insult Albanians (both directly or indirectly); he works hard for his cause; represents his country well; is well-spoken, well prepared to reply to any question, has done his homework; is communicative. The fact that he said that "Serbia will not be a destabilizing factor" indicates that in his mind he understands how his country was seen by other people in the world and neighbours. A politician has to be understanding, intuitive of others needs, cmmunicative, careful and sensitive with his people. Alas, Jeremic kind of politicians come to late to Serbia, and he can now only talk about Serbs as his people, because Albanians of Kosovo are so not anymore. Human being, handle with care.

Kosova is already de facto Independent. Mr. Minister has come to the world politics a few decades too late. But he is young, he's got time to show his knowledge in the future when the relations between the State of Kosova and the State of Serbia will be built in proper terms. Until then I wish him less cooperation with todays' warmongers who might see themselves "searched for" tomorrow.

he is speaking for serbia only, which kind of balkans, it is not your juristiction to say no balkans in EU,

i say no serbia if possible.
and why he calls for compromise solutions for kosovo independence? albanians are not calling for it.
this is a clear sign of desperation and clearly they missused the time and now they realised that international comunity was not joking.

So if we are to believe in the "seven circles of hell" Jeremic has come up with, in the beginning of 2008 Serbia would impose a blockade on Kosova which as far as Albanians are concerned is a good thing since it would separate Kosova even further from Serbia and the money that is now going to Serbia would flow into Albania and Macedonia instead. Then Serbia would break relations with the US, UK, France, and Italy and probably Germany who are gonna be the first to recognize Kosova. Then in the course of 2008 it would have to break off relations with all 20-22 EU members who are willing to recognize it. So if you look at it Serbia is actually threatening Kosova with Serbia's ruin! And as you might have expected our attitude towards such threats is "two birds with one stone": we gain independence and Serbia shoots itself in the foot.Well go for it, by all means! But a wiser course of action would be to accept the inevitable.

How is Serbia going to protect it's territorial integrity through blockades and cutting off diplomatic ties?

Independence gets declared, most of the West recognizes it, and that's that.

As if a pointless and easily maneuverable blockade is going to do the trick!

"serbia will not contribute to the destabilazation of the balkans."
what's wrong w/that sentence?
anyone exposed to any form of media in the last 20 years might chuckle at that quote so imagine what the response from people who do keep up w/events in the balkans. unless they were drinking or hallucinating, my guess is that it would send them into one heck of a laughter induced fall to the ground.
