I would respectfully suggest that here in Ireland we have a greater insight into the British press than most others. In days gone by the Irish people were portrayed in British newspapers as uncivilised and somewhat less than human. In more recent years as Irish republicans fought to end British rule in Northern Ireland, we were all murderers and terrorists. So we know all about the British press, thank you.
You can hardly describe a press as "free" if it slavishly follows the policies of government. And that is what the British press has done, whether it be Ireland, the Balkans or Iraq.

tom,
you seem to fall in step w/the prevailing thinking in belgrade. if you're irish, you should be able to relate to the albanians in kosove and their plight. i would imagine that the two parties (the irish & british)could be interchanged using the albanians and serbs regarding their history together and more specifically kosove. i can't understand how an irishman who suffered under the british would be so inclined to dismiss the struggle of the albanians under both the former yugoslavia and today's serbia unless you struggle from "stockholm syndrome?"

By the way, I find the Serbian publications quite neutral.
(Tom O'Donoghue, 3 December 2007 17:30)

Of course they are. Srebrenica never happened right. O wait that was in the Serbian press before the video was shown. After the video was shown, the Serbian press went on to say the video was a fake. Very neutral indeed.
As a matter of fact even though B92 tries its best to be neutral you can see its non-neutrality any day.
Simple example. You had a whole article describing what Jeremic said to Nicholas Burns in the OSCE, and how he had turned down everything Burns said. Yet in that article B92 did not show us not even one word of what Burns said, so we the reader could form our own opinion whether the version Jeremic presented was true or not. Thankfully we have Google news where we can read news from all different sources and get a better view of the true picture.

miri,
Since I do not speak very many languages I am grateful to the world-newspapers.com website for allowing me access to English language publications from many countries including the ones you mention.
From the Balkans, I regularly read the internet editions of papers from Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, Croatia, Kosovo etc. Is that enough?
Anyway, to try to understand a situation it is necessary to read a lot more than just newspapers. At best they are only "the first draft" of history.
By the way, I find the Serbian publications quite neutral.

So Tom, what would you repectfully suggest for a "heavenly impartial" press then?
Maybe a russian "pravda" would do?
Further more, do you agree that Serbia's press nowdays suffers from all the symptoms that British press suffered during IRA up-risal?

And last but not least, have you read any french, american, italian, indian, turkish, finish... just to name a few, press and see what they say?

Serbia is isolating itself more and more and maybe 20 years from now, we will be talking about another "Chekoslovakia Upraising" right in the middle of Balkans, where Serbians will fight on the streets against Russian tanks. And for that you must thank Kostunica today.

Tom,
Sometime I think that you like many in the Serbian camp have a genuine problem with free press. Aren’t you people tired of saying everyday?
Oh, Guardian is pro-Albanian. Scotsman is anti Serb, The Economist is too liberal, Observer has been bought by Albanian-American lobby; do not talk to me about Independent. Seriously Tom, don’t you think that is time for you to look elsewhere for the problem. Let me give you a clue. The Mirror.
Ps. I think this is one of my best jokes, The Mirror being a daily British paper.

The article that Nehat directs us to via his link, is one of two very anti-Serb pieces published in the British press this weekend. The other is in the Observer newspaper, written by the well known NATO apologist Ed Vulliamy. There may be more that I am unaware of.

Why this weekend? Would it have anything to do with the approaching Kosovo deadline?

Damn sure it would! Here we have the British establishment, through the medium of the newspapers, attempting to generate (once again) anti-Serb feelings among the British people in order to justify their craven subservience to US policy on Kosovo. Here in Ireland the newspapers are no better.

But it is not necessary for Serbia to win the propoganda battle in order to establish its rights. There are still enough countries in this world who actually believe in international law to put a stop to this imperialist agenda of NATO/USA. At least, for all our sakes, I hope there are.

What are the Serbs wanting to get out of this report, when they did not come up with any idea half acceptable by the albanian part...

this is why Kosova will become independant
