To be openly support independence before 10 DEC is a very polarizing action, but then again by someone who is often accused as being very polarizing.

Djordje, for whoever your serbian voters will vote, it means that they are voting for a candidate who supports the Independence of Kosova because EVERY SINGLE CANDIDATE FOR AMERICAN PRESIDENT SUPPORTS KOSOVA'S INDEPENDENCE.
Remember that every major politician in USA supports Kosova's Independence.
(afrim hoxha, 2 December 2007 12:03)

Please know what you are talking about before you post comments like this. Obama is against imposed solutions on Srbija, also Fred Thompson is against independence. So is Kucinich. From the looks of things, you albanians have been promised something that isnt possible. Better get used to those Serbian passports!!

Serbian American

pre 16 godina

Bottom line: The Clintons promised something to the Serbian population of Albanian descent, that wasn't theirs to give away, nor does it belong to Albania to accept it as such nor to eventually attach it to Albania as such.

International law is on the side of those that own that land by cultural, religious and historical evidence and it will be extremely diffecult to proove otherwise. Any dicision made will have to apply to all and everyone, and will not have "special case" status or, there will be a blatant disregard of law and order, and those supporting that option will be held 100% responsible for the reprecissions caused by that decision. Furthermore, any decision regarding K&M will bring into question Srpska Krajina, Srpska, Crna Gora and Macedonia and will dwell deeper into historical injustices of that region. Mr. Holbrook, Madam Albright and the rest of the Clinton camp failed miserably because they were 100% in the wrong regarding Serbs. Any carnage from their policy, is and will be their responsibilty and no one elses.

One would think that they may have been persuaded by lobbyist advocating anti-American policies. Any support for Islamic terrorist expansion in Europe brings the US closer into arms way and that alone can be considered treasonous.

Slavko, the real one

In the 1980s, Kosovo was compared to the illegal immigration of Mexicans into the U.S. Has the problem been resovled? Fred Thompson wants to bring a close to it

If you want to stop Hillary Clinton join the Barack Obama movement

I am Slavko from Canada, and I approve of this message to join Fred and Barack!

And I urge all Serbian-Americans to vote against Clinton both as a Democratic Party candidate and as the President, unless they want to see our country bombed again.

pre 16 godina

Mrs. Clinton's comments, regarding K&M and the Serb nation in general, shouldn't suprise anyone. Besides, how can one expect her to realize how immoral Mr. Clinton's policy of assisting ethnic cleasing of Serbs from their ancestral lands in the '90's, when she is poised to take up where Bill left off? This family is obviously trying despreately to justify that immorality with more immoral actions; by assisting to dismantle a Christian land with distorted facts, to passify the Islamic world. That being said, I'm almost certain, that the Clinton's (and most politicians in general)don't beleive in anything other than personal gain, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they themselves converted to Islam. Although, they wouldn't be fooling anyone but themselves. Least of all those who hate us (Americans) the most.

Mrs. Clinton should realize that we Americans need leadership here & not abroad. Let the Europeans worry about Serbia.

So the US keep up their illegal moves and now seek to destroy a democratic country in the middle of Europe? The will of the people of Serbia is that Kosovo remains within Serbia and the Kosovo Albanians must understand that they have one country already and it is called Albania.

Ethnic cleansing of 250 000 Serbs and other non-albanians must not be rewarded with a state. Some 150 churches and monastaries have been burned to the ground, we are talking about the destruction of a whole people's identity and history. Do we really want to break international law, destroy democratic Serbia just to satisfyThaci, Ceku and Haradinaj?

Russia, China etc are right on this one and US, UK, France are wrong. It will never be peace in the Balkans if one starts supporting illegal moves in sharp contradiction to international law. Open your eyes western leaders!

Thanks Tom for the warning. With friends like Russia and China (the Cradle of Democracy) you've got nothing to worry about.

Does it not strike the K-Albanians as significant that the countries who are most enthusiastic for Kosovan independence are:
1.USA - responsible for the invasion of Iraq and the destruction of its society, with the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
2.Britain - see 1.
3. France - under Sarkozy, the USA's newest friend in Europe
4. Germany - well we all know about German involvement in the Balkans down the years.
With friends like this who needs enemies?

It's interesting to see how the Serb camp here gives more credit to some Check dissident than the US' and nearly all EU's politicians.

nesha

I was secretly hoping that Hillary would back Serbia's cause, if for nothing else, then to get even with her husband, who has a street named after him in Pristina.
Hillary just goes along with the recent history trends which show that all American politicians, no matter whether they are Republicans or Democrats, are anti-Serbian. Nevertheless, I take this opportunity to kindly ask the American Serbs and their US friends not to vote for Hillary. Not seeing another Clinton as President could be a small asset to the worst ever US Serbian relations.

Mrs Clinton voted for War and then now back tracks because she wants to be president. Now she wants to support Kosovo and i wonder when she will back track on this statement. US cannot always be trusted look at Vietnam and Lebedon.

Hilary clinton can say whatever she wishes - she wants votes. The only thing holding her back is that the US (or the world for that much) doesn't need or want another Clinton.

If you believe these words than they - clinton & bush - have succeeded in "reeling you in."

just to remind to bmrusila, the latest reports say only ONE EU country is opposing to independence and that s Cyprus. Imagine what Brussels will do when it comes up to make a decision. Such a tiny and priceless country will say "OK No problem, Mr.Solana as you say".

pre 16 godina

yeah for hillary!! (i affectionately call her "billary" -- 2 for the price of one, was his favorite expression.) i will probably vote for her -- but in the end for anY!!! democrat against the republicans. we never vote republicans in my family -- even in the 50's (for you old timers) my parents voted for stevenson over eisenhower, and let me tell you, since then the republicans have only gone downhill, big-time!

but that's not really the point. nor is monica (good try, but even back in bill's time that cheap anti-clinton stunt went nowhere...) the point is, we in the US support independence for kosovo/a by an overwhelming majority, despite what some here have reported, and we are generally sympathetic to human rights struggles and opposing oppressive regimes. i am talking about typical americans, even with all of our other contradictions and fears. and of course it hasn't helped Blgr's cause to snuggle up so closely to someone so stridently anti-democratic as putin.

again i plead: give democracy and democratic values a real try. it is the only viable future...

Jelena

pre 16 godina

I'd really like to see Ms. Clinton find Kosovo on a map, that would be interesting to see I think. It'd probably take a lot of preparation ;-). Anyways, it's easy to make "big" statements on something that is in someone elses backyard especially when the US is desperately trying to make the issue in question someone elses responsibility and consequently failure - hence the transfer from KFOR to EU. Of course the US is bipartisan on the Kosovo independence issue - they want to get rid of it and never hear about it again, or at least not during their mandate in the White House...

Zoran

pre 16 godina

"Hillary Clinton to back Kosovo independence" Is this a shock to anyone? In 2009 the Clintons (Hillary & Bill) will be in power again, this is inevitable. Americans are not savvy enough to vote for a person who will actually make things better here and abroad like Ron Paul. So expect the US to be even more anti-Serb/Russian in the near future.

So Hilary wants independence and Goerge promissed independence. George's promisse is worth less than her wishes by the looks of things, as it hasn't happened, as he failed to deliver and she thinks she will).

What does she expect to do if elected? Bomb Serbia again if Serbia resists? She failed the eliminate the Serbs when her husband was on the throne (we all know she was the power behind the throne) and now wants to finish the job.

Politician will say anythign to get elected, but in the event that she actually intends to commit another crime, I'm sure there are more level headed people around now and she won't get the green light.
Her wanting to grant independence doesn't mean she will be able to. Bush gave his word and he is still waiting.

One thing I disagree with the Serbian camp here. She wasn't humiliated by Bill. It was quite the opposite. This cunning woman set the trap for him knowing he will fall into it.

Who was it that arranged for Monica to be so close to Bill in the first place? Hilary wanted to look like a victim. Something she has in common with the Albanians.

Mrs. Clinton has lost the respect of many of women in the USA since her husband made her look the fool when he cheated on her and she did nothing. Its not likely that Clinton will be the next President, there simply is not enough support to put her over the top, but I will say she will make a good run at it, in the end she can thank Bill and middle America for not winning. She has much going against her, for starters, she is Bill’s wife, secondly, she is a woman, now this might seem sexist of me and I assure I am not, but much of America’s voters are, especially middle America.

I am English and haven't got a drop of Serbian blood. Am I not allowed to hold an opinion about Hillary or what the other Clinton did in 1999 (urged on by our own PM)?!

Sadly, I don't believe that it makes a bit of difference who our PM is at the moment, because they will blindly follow America on international policy.

Therefore it is very important to the British who is elected. I certainly don't want a warmonger, even one disguised as a 'humanitarian'.

I have noticed that in Europe there are frequent remarks and jokes about politicians, while in the States people proudly talk about free speech but don't want to use it or have others use it!

bmrusila

So what, USA and Mrs Clinton may recognise Kosovo already tomorrow if that pleases them. It is important what EU say and Mr Solana was clear by saying that entire EU must be agreed, however there are 7 countries that firmly opose to such act and they won't succumb under the pressure. 17-18 EU countries have some doubts and not sure yet on position. Only France and UK really push for independence. Lets wait and see, 10.December is coming soon ))))

On a related not, since Albanian lobby is very "strong" and "rich" in US we we'll make sure that Mrs. Clinton is elected. Once this is completed we'll direct our efforts and our "money" to change the Russian administration, we'll make sure we'll have Kasparov elected president of Russia, but first he has to promise us to recognize Kosova's independence.

i think clinton will not be elected next year, but maybe in 2012, in fact highly likely. kosovo status will be waiting for her then, all nice and unsolved, and she can dedicate her four years in office to solving it with her own new initiatives, and so on. that's how the mideast has been, each us president has a go at that.
btw, despite the media spin, i'm not saying she wont be elected because i wish her not to be, and i do wish her not to be elected because i despise us democrats, but why i'm saying this now is because americans will not be voting for women or african-am. presidents any time soon no matter what.
which is unfortunate generally speaking, but is ok in this instance obviously.

Bob Petrovich

Victor, what Serbs have allegedly done in 10 years of Milosevic era pales in comparrison with what Albanian extremists have done since June 10 1999.

Unlike the lies of Milosevic "genocide" the facts about extremist Albanian crimes are verified.
Their actions show the trend
stretching from the late 1800's, Hitler's occupation of Serbia and Tito's rule.

Freezing painted picture of Milosevic on the screen to block the live feed of criminality going on right now is a nifty trick but does not work in the long run.

"Peaceful" Albanians are warned by NATO that KFOR will not tollerate violence.

I am not sure if you can grasp the concept, having in mind that you consider Hilary Clinton person of integrity. You are either not familiar with Whitewater finacinal scandal, Mena drug money laundering of her husband, flipping of Westchester home and other events (e.g. death of Vince Foster) or you have no idea what integrity means. I was wondering when she was going to make this mess the Republican Party's fault. It was obvious to me that KiM was not even on her radar screen(in relation to the current primary election campaign) until she slips a few points in the polls. She might feel a little desperate. Just like George Bush calling for independence in Tirana was trying to make KiM a "republican success", this is only her trying to make it a republican failure. Well, there is enough failure on the part of my government on this issue to be equally divided among them both. This is the perfect opportunity for Obama to use the "war of agression without UN approval" line they always use against Bush.

In the end, though, it cheapens the important issue of KiM to use it simply as an election trick....

i think clinton will not be elected next year, but maybe in 2012, in fact highly likely. kosovo status will be waiting for her then, all nice and unsolved, and she can dedicate her four years in office to solving it with her own new initiatives, and so on. that's how the mideast has been, each us president has a go at that.
btw, despite the media spin, i'm not saying she wont be elected because i wish her not to be, and i do wish her not to be elected because i despise us democrats, but why i'm saying this now is because americans will not be voting for women or african-am. presidents any time soon no matter what.

Let the Europeans worry about Serbia.

afrim hoxha

On a related not, since Albanian lobby is very "strong" and "rich" in US we we'll make sure that Mrs. Clinton is elected.

Bob Petrovich

pre 16 godina

Please know what you are talking about before you post comments like this. Obama is against imposed solutions on Srbija, also Fred Thompson is against independence. So is Kucinich. From the looks of things, you albanians have been promised something that isnt possible. Better get used to those Serbian passports!!

To be openly support independence before 10 DEC is a very polarizing action, but then again by someone who is often accused as being very polarizing.
