Mark Green you asked why would America need more trouble when they have enough in Afghanistan and Iraq? Simple. They are not the ones who will be fighting.

They are going to sell their weapons and expect their buddies to go in there and fight on the Albanian side while they get the prize.

The fact thair their buddies take all the risks and none of the reward is their own stupidity. America is a big bully. They simply put it to you like this. Either you are with us or against us. Doesn't leave any room for negotiation.
After the dust settles and they have their good guys and bad guys firmly established again, America will come out and declare victory. They will tell us again how they stopped genocide once again in the Balkans.

But Mark, I suspect you know all this already.

So you see, America has a lot to gain and nothing to lose by pursuing this policy.
Europe on the other hand has everything to lose and nothing to gain.

US can keep Bondsteel for as long as it want without the need for a new conflict.

If anything I think the US would like to withdraw its troops as soon as possible.

As an K. Albanian, wether US or EU support independence or not, I will never ever accept any kind of serbian sovergnitu over Kosovo.

So the problem is not US, but the 2 million K. Albanians the Serbia tried to kill, and has done absolutely nothing in the last 8 - 9 years to acknowledge the crimes commited by serbs, apologise, try and improve relations between albanians and serbs....., absolely nothing. And then the Serbian politicians have the audacity to offer some kind of autonomy within Serbia! hahaha, what a bunch of comedians!.

Never again!

The last thing America or Europe want is more trouble in the Balkans, with forces stretched in both Iraq and Afghanistan, why would the USA need more trouble.

Canadien,

it´s all developing into that direction, that´s true. but, I am not sure, it just looks like the US really want a new violent conflict in the Balkans. I mean...why are they lifting the US-arms embargo against Serbia, and furthermore even delivering US-military supply in a large scale while supporting the albanian extremists in Kosovo?

if, what I really hope will not happen, there is another escalation, the big losers would be the Albanians. Serbia would of course also be in a bad position, because of the involvment in a new confrontation, but in the end, the only ones would have the benefit out of that mess ...would be the US. and it just looks as they want to keep their camp bondsteel, no matter what it costs.

I am already sad for all those who are not extremists down there, who will suffer just because of some stupid irresponsible fanatics.

let´s all hope it doesn´t happen.

Canadian,

I do not share your analysis. American wants the independence of Kosovo for the simple reason that there is on other way after what happened to the Kosovars in 1999. They were the ones to push for a UN resolution to permit NATO to attack Serbia. Now that Kosovo has been freed from Milosevic and the radicals, one thing is even surer: they don't want the radicals to impose their views on Kosovo and they are pushing for its independence.

An independent Kosovo is the best thing for both Serbs and Albanians.

This is where it gets ugly and you have to consider that the Americans want this to happen (violence in the Balkans, again) to deflect attention from the disaster they caused in Iraq. I cannot believe that the EU is so gullible not to see this for what it is. After this parliamentary debate regarding Kosovo the Radicals are going to stir things up in a big way, one must not forget that they have the support of at least 40% of the Serbian nation. Finally, one must remember that today’s Russia is not the same as 1999’s Russia. There is an old saying that rings true time and time again “History repeats it self”. Let’s hope not.
