Thaci has something else and more important then villa. He still has a friends having some influence on US policy.

Their positions are diminished over eight years but not to zero.

I would like to refresh your memory showing what happened at the beginning of 1999.

How nice picture of Thaci and Madeline (do you remember her dancing in South Korea). Just before a kiss.

Ban-Ki Moon? And where is he from? Surprise, surprise, South Korea. And who is one of the US's staunchest allies? Little doubt then that he'll implement what the US want!!

The UN as an "impartial" organisation is a joke.

If left to the UN Secretary General, there's not much hope for Serbia or the Albanians in Kosovo. He's shown himself to not be very competent when it comes to Kosovo. He's likely to side with NATO. He'll probably try some scheme thought up by NATO that will only exascerbate the situation. As shown at Rambolliet, NATO doesn't place much value in dialog and negotiations and the UN doesn't care much, since several UNSC members lead NATO.

Ultimately, the Kosovo Albanians will move with a unilateral declaration, followed by mostly NATO recognition. Sanctions on Kosovo will shock the Kosovo
Albanian economy. New passports in Serbia will freeze Albanian movement out of Kosovo. Broke with little to no hope for prosperity or EU access, the Albanians will blame/attack the EU force in frustration. The EU will do nothing to stop the mass exodus of minorities to Serbia. They don't officially support mass force population transfers unless its the "correct ethnic goup." Afterall, they made sure that the Albanians they cleansed came back but ensure that the minorities have no conditions to do so.

"Freedom" is an universal concept that has no owner or gjeographic location. Perhaps, it is a concept still alien for many of you in Serbia.

Princip,

I expect them to do that, even if it would be a very silly move...

guys like Tači are trapped in their own ideological trap.
if he does not play the tough guy, he will lose a lot... no matter that if he does, all K-albanians lose a lot.

but of course, things like that are never of any interest for war profiteers and criminals...
the Albanians here should ask themselves where Tači´s villa is located...and how much money he spent for it...

@Nick:

don´t worry, they are still censoring quite unnecessarily things that are not in the slightest little bit derogatory or offending...

they just do as the are told.

why don´t you ask the B92 moderators the same, when Albanians are writing in a very tasteless and intolerant manner about Serbs, serbian culture or history?
serbian churches and monasteries are not serbian? do you share that view?

strange, that they are built in byzantine style...that is even named internationally serbian-style by historians...

but Albanians here are allowed to spread their propaganda here... what do you say about that?
or do you stay quiet?

You and your generation is born and grown up under a fake myth that Kosova is Serbia. I think your kids will grow up to learn otherwise. With your generation ends, once and for all, the serbian claim on Kosovo, and that's it. You are one of the last who will say "go back to Albania".

You all keep citing Serbia's historical record with civil liberties and democracy, but the fact is that thousands upon thousands of Albanians have chosen to immigrate to Serbia instead of live in Albania.

Furthermore, I don't see waves of Albanians that live in Presevo or Montenegro fleeing from Serbs. They seem to like living with Serbs. Compare their situation to the Serbs in Kosovo who have to live in fear of their lives from Albanians.

The fact is, Serbia is much more ethnically diverse and democratic than the institutions the Albanians have in place in Kosovo. So lets not pretend the Albanian position here is about civility and democracy.

It said

" the decision on the continuation of the process will be made by the UN secretary-general"

- continuation of the Troika process that is i.e Ban Ki Moon has not decided yet to stop completly on the 10th December or to keep the talks going. I guess Ban Ki Moon can keep the talks going, create new ones or highly unlikely undermine the very organistaion he represents by calling it a day and saying the UN cannot find a solution. In the last case bear in mind that 1244 still exisits and thus so does Serbias' Sovereignity over its province.

CleanCut... I am afraid, ...it´s not about freedom. the Albanians in Kosovo, can live free within Serbia but...but they.., to be precise, a part of them, the violent and mafia-infested part wants to grab foreign, serbian territory.
that won´t be allowed.

you can count down in a childish manner, like others are doing it...but it won´t change a lot. your "leader" will "declare" something...and that will have the same effect like in 1991 or whenever you have "declared" your toy-independence the first time...

as long as 1244 is in effect... I can only laugh about your counting-attempts...

they show your desperation.

Jovan,

I very much doubt any declaration of any sort come the 11th Decemebr. Thaci just like Ceku and Kosumi will make up a new and ever movable deadline. We have already seen a slip up on the "immediatly after the talks end" - maybe Dec 20008 will be suggested next !

Serbia is ready for any Illegal action and as you pointed out 1244 still overrides all folly and blustering - of course Thaci knows that one he states such folly thats it credibility is totally shattered and they have no cards left what so ever which is why they will pretend to have listened to the US and make up another moveable deadline!

The question is: Should these people be set free or not?

Who in the civilized world of 2007 would dare to say No? We already know who, governments with the worse history of civil liberties and democratic values. Kosova will be Free and Independent as it deserves.

Peter Sudyka

This really is the last resort, but as far as Kosovo is concerned, a poisonous combination of bad American decisions, European neglect and Russian aggressiveness have lead to such a situation.

The International Community has failed and I am not surprised that it lead here. Maybe it's for the best, let's see what happens.

It seems as if the UN with Solana and Sarkozy at the helm will push for an independent Kosovo. Regardless, independence will be illegal and should be null and void. Albanians wake up. You think western Europe will be concerned with your well being after unilateral declaration of independence? The answer will be no!! Kosovo will be part of Serbia always.

Jovan

I don´t believe that this will be left to Mr.Moon alone...

but even if so, he would have to be very careful in order not to be the the undertaker of the UN.

since the allegations against the finnish "negotiator" still wait for a real investigation, the UN-chairman must be very careful indeed.

EA

No agreement will be reached when it comes to Kosova Sovereignity. The government in Belgrade hasn't got the guts to tell the truth to its own people that Kosova is lost once and for all. That is what the ethnic cleansing policies brings, the dismembering of a country. It is a simple as that. That is why this "negotiations" are a waste of time when it comes to Sovereignity.
