Hopes were high for a cooperation deal in the 90-s and Albanians were ready for anything good comming from Belgrade. Now it is too late for anything like that. Kosova during the last 8 years has functioned de facto as an Independent State only without being recognized so de jure. This recognition will come in the next weeks and the madness that started from we all know who, will finally end, and Balkan people will finally get back to their daily lives. Even now, you still have politicians in Belgrade who call publicly Albanians in the derogatory term "siptars". So, not much has changed in Belgrade since 1990 and Albanians cannot experiment with their lives in the name of "cooperation" anymore. Thanks anyway. We got to go our way. And that means Independence and West.

Because the US acts first and then thinks later, this is why now they are bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan with no end in sight. The EU wants to explore all the options first before acting. No one wants the same in Kosovo because the US's policy could easily start a new war for which Bush can simply fund from the state budget and enforce with more young American boys (and then expect European support support as well) and the people of the Balkans will be considered last in terms of priority. Also remember that the US is one state, the EU is twenty seven, so you can't compare them at all when it comes to common policy.

I always have to lough when I see this pathetic weakness of the EU countries. They never can agree on anything. And they wanted to be the light tower of the world. What a joke.
Angela wants a coordinated stance. I would like to live for 100 years to see such a thing.
Anyway - like always - the US will help them to solve this issue. The US will recognize Kosovo and the EU countries will follow. Some of them soon, some later.
Seeing this usual European charade I am proud more than ever to be a US and not a EU citizen.

Serbia has shown that it is more than willing to forgo its maximalist position - full and total incorporation of its province.

Maybe the ethnic-Albanians would prefer Serbia to have been just as unwilling to "negotiate" but this offer remain for the taking and remain so for the time being so it is worth considering the benefits of these Autonomy proposals that have been put forth.

Ultimately UN SC resolution 1244 is not and will not be rescinded and there is no 'novel' way the legalist EU can bypass signed and agreed UN resolutions or international norms and laws.

Thus Serbia has the law & time on its side but the ethnic-Albanian leadership reperesenting less then 45% of the province need to remember that economic development is the most important priority and illegal declarations that Thaci said would happen on the 10th December will get them nowhere - like Ischinger said

Well, well, EU should reacted earlier by warning Pristina to approcah this neagotations constractivelly and come up with some substantional ideas. However, I hope that EU finally realise that Serbia makes efforts and comes with great plans that offers maximum of indepndence. The only thing Serbia wants is the control over Srbian minority, preservation of cultural and religious monuments and control over the borders. This really make sense and in long term this means stability. I don't know why Pristina refuses everything when once they will be totaly left on thier own without any help from outside. After indepndence the region will be still in crise and no one will invest. They will depend for a long time on the funds from the EU. But how long that will last and how much it can contribute in improvement of socail conditions. Prisitna backed by USA expressed high level of incapability in order to represent how do they see their future organisation of society and what do they really offer. They prefer to be independent supervised by the EU, USA. This means no full independence and if they fail this would furthermore mean bringing it back to Serbian sovereignity or just left aside while the EU will govren the region or even NATO.

Nevertheless, it seem that Pristina wants chaos, anarchy, and lawlesness. It is excellent way to shelter criminal activities by thier own high officals along with some UNMIK staff.

Albanians seem to be happy with railroad instructor from Sierra Leone (where the last train stopped running in 1975),and who knows how many of UN experts of this sort there is, with the lowest GDP in the world, and totaly destroyed economy. (this are the facts revealed by Maciej Zaremba, the staff writer for Swedish newspaper "Dagnes Nyheter").

The promising thing is that the entire EU must be united on this matter and seems they are not. Yet Germany and Italy warn Pristina of taking any unilateral steps. The negotiations will continue most likely beyond the December and by the spring solution will be found if EU warns Pristina to colaboarte and accept what is offered.

It looks like negotiating with the Albanian's is like talking to a brick wall.

Maybe someone should inform them that the meaning of 'negotiations' is where you have to create a win-win situation for each party. Give and take!

It oviously pointless, when you got America and UK pumping up meaningless promises to the Kosovo Albanian's for independence. Looks to me their attempts to sabatoge each meeting has worked out quite well so far.

I just hope that we can find a peaceful solution between us and the Albanian's before things get out of control.
