Nato can seize the north but don't forget that the north is a vastly different place from south of the Ibar in the most important aspect -- unlike the pro-Nato K-Albanians, K-Serbs there will be an overwhelimingly hostile population to Nato ... just like the situation Nato is now facing from the peoples of Iraq and Aghanistan .... you get the picture? Throw in Belgrade's (and Moscow's) expected support to K-Serb resistence, Nato will become stuck in yet another quagmire of its own making. What else can Nato do except seize physical control??? Not much really when you think about it -- because the UN still officially has to recognize 1244. And we all (including Nato and UNMIK) know very well where sovereignty lies in that resolution.

This is extreme and biased of the international community, I can not see how this will help matters, it certainly will not ease the integration of Serbs into what will probably become an independent Kosovo, I think it will have the opposite effect, it will isolate them further. What next? Assasination of Kostunica perhaps? This is NOT the right way to do this!

I wonder if they would ever do the same to neutralize organizations such as ANA in Kosovo and Macedonia.

I hope they don't go through with this, they should be peacekeepers, nothing more.

Wow. So the US/EU/NATO forces will attack the structured defense and police again and the KLA will attack the elderly, women and children again. If this is true, then it is apparent that this will be the last NATO push to ethnically cleanse Kosovo - finish the job.

It also sounds like Northern Mitrovica needs to be more like Mogadishu, Somalia. There's just no other way to approach the "might equals right" ideology of the US/EU/NATO structures. The Serbs need to protect life and property from these monsters.

Kate's correct.

It will all be good fellas, all good. No worries, because NATO soldiers are already in every centimeter of Kosova, so nothing new is going on, or you just forgot it for a second? They are just making sure that everyone knows that they will not tolerate any thug-like behavior (like in Bosnia), but they will take care business if anything weird happens. Time is ticking for the Independence Recognition and for the relations between our nations to stabilise.

As of Tuesday November 20, there is no such article on the website of Balkan Insight. It appears to be misinformation. Could B92 please provide a source for this most unlikely article?

“through this action, KFOR will also send a message to Serbia’s leadership to stay out of meddling in Kosovo’s affairs.”

Listen to the nerve of NATO and UN they bomb and occupy Serbian land and give it to Serbias enemies and then tell us not to meddle. They are the ones that should not mettle in Serbias internal affairs. The bottom line is Serbia must protect her people and if it comes down to it I would see it as an honor to fight for Kosovo-Metohija.My only concern is to protect the Serbian people against Albanians and NATO thugs.

Slavko

Could you believe this? It was obvious that KFOR, Nato, EU, and the rest were anti- Serb, but this one is beyond me. What about disarming the ANA and the other Albanian paramilitary trash. They won't let the Serbs to even defend themselves. This isn't about justice, Milosevic, or any other lie. These negotiations were a farce from the get go. I hope for the Serb nation that the Russians will be behind us, otherwise, Kosovo today, the rest of the country tomorrow.

What goes around comes around like the old saying so adequately says and means. The horrendous Serb aggression has done on its unarmed neighbors Slovenia ,Croatia ,Kosovo and especially horrendously in Bosnia the story isn't even finished there because Serbs are trying to steal half of the country. The only thing that is disgusting Kate is Serbians treatment of its neighbors that is going on fore two decades.

Jovan

they are doing a lot to calm down the albanian sentiment, actually.

if I was an Albanian I would be suspicious about this! ...not really a good sign for the greater albanian cause!

"unnamed diplomatic" sources - as credible as stating independence by 1999, 2000, 01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09,10, etc etc....

The only reality is that if there was an illegal unilateral declaration the UNMIK authority must immediatly repeal it and close down the PISG that declares it - NATO will be preoccupied in doing this job for UNMIK let alone going into the North and while ensuring peace is maintained for the South. Without UN resolution 1244 being honoured NATO loses its legitamacy and become an occupying force - I very much doubt this is a credible "diplomatic" source just like all the other "unamed" jokers we have heard speculating this or that incredible will happen.

Mike

pre 16 godina

I highly doubt this. If there were a sizeable NATO presence in northern Kosovo, we would have known about it already. Plus, ANA wouldn't be making the threats it is.

Besides, if Kosovo does declare sooner than later, the northern part will be Serbia's salving ointment. If the international community wants to scuttle Serbia's democratic transition, ensure the secession of RS, and return Serbian politics to the days of Milosevic with a DSS-SRS coalition firmly in power in Belgrade, then by all means, "invade" northern Kosovo.

johny

Why is that disgusting Kate. I would think you a self-professed peace lover would be the first one to support the removal of weapon caches, troublemakers, and any influence from Serbia that would spell conflict. After all you are the always loud one here speaking against conflict, and when NATO and UNMIK plan to take actions against anything that would cause Serbs to start a conflict you call it disgusting and disturbing. You who always talk against double standards seem to apply them also.

miri

Well, it looks like Kostunica'
s derogatory rhetoric against NATO, UN and EU are finally paying off. The serbian threats and arrogance is working, just like we have always said in this forum. If you still are counting on Russia to save the northern bit, then good luck, it just doesn't seem to go that way.

Kate and others, you can still go on hunger strike in front of EU embassies in London and elsewhere to protest the measures. Maybe you still hope to change the course of events. I hope you will still be writing in this forum after December 10.

They are already in control but not visible. This article in fact should focus on the more visible KFOR and UN forces presence in the north.
North was intentionally left on the hands of Serb mafia, mafia that has made every ordinary Serbs life so miserable that they had to leave Kosovo. Yet, many Serbs from diaspora and other non Serbs i.e. Kate. Ron etc are still talking about the International Law while ordinary K-Serbs are tired form every law not to motion the International that can and has always been used to suit the situation. They know this and are tired of empty talking from 1000 miles away.
Independent Kosova will be more suitable solution for the, but it is left for them to decide

Serbia should respond as soon as possible to KFOR and NATO on this threats. First of all, Serbs are not troublemakers and for the weapons KFOR should search in South. In another words this means Serbs are left without any protection and have no right to defend them selves when furious horde from South tries to enter North of MItrovica. And yet Serbs got warning on Presevo Valley. Ha,haha. If our government have no plans to react than I will even support the actions of Czar Lazar. I mean, Serbs must be protected and the protection can be guaranted only by Serbia. This is really upseting.
