What happened in the 90s cannot be ignored or forgotten. Ahtisaari said: the Serbs of today should not be punished for the policies of the Milosevic regime in the 90s, but they can't expect to be rewarded for them either! The atrocities did happen. The Albanians cannot regard Belgrade gvmt as a legitimate authority after that. Why cannot the Serb population accept that and just let them go as they let Montenegro go (and the outlet to the Mediterranean sea)?

Laze, Nobody gives you independence, you just take it. Wow, just take it!!!!!

First, just taking something is stealing, but don't let that stop you. Second, go ahead and try to take it. It won't be like taking candy from a baby.

NATO is in, a EU mission is about to come, there won't be no war.

The maximum that can happen is that the Serbs up north will regret their voting boycott, because Belgrade won't be able to provide the beef for them anymore...and they'll not even have representatives in the Kosovo parliament.

But don't expect any wars anywhere...no one would dare, it's suicide.

If Serbia couldn't win without NATO being present, how is it going to win now?

sad to read that from you, lazer.

it looks like you are yearning for another war...

Ron, Albanians are not threatening violence, they are just going to fight for their freedom from Serbia. Nobody gives you Independence, you just take it.

Someone said elsewhere:
'If a neighbor child have accustom to come to your house and play, it does not mean you should give up one of your room and give it away to the child'.
How about if Kosovo Albanians are granted independence as a state with no teritory. In this situation Kosovo Albanians would have their state but no land for which they'd have to pay rent or lease.
Why not, we live in XXI where definition of state should be liberated from XVIII and XIX centuries constructs?

KS,

What I meant was: the Kosovars are threating with violence. The UN/EU/NATO don't wanna be in between...

If the Kosovars would be really peaceful there would be no problem.
Not every people can have its own country. Sorry guys!
You already got Albania by the way!

Ron what does my comment or this article have to do with what you are talking about? You are only simply posting one more Serb comment.

Ron

KS,

Be honest. If Albanians were non-violent monks from Burma the international community would not care!

The West is in there and sees that there is a problem: Kosovo want to be indepdent. Well, then let's give them independence before they start throwing stones at us!

The west.... very cowardly!

Ron:

your huddle-comments are a little bit out of place!

trying to butter the Albanians here up is the wrong way.

they have to be told clearly where the red line is.

and afterwards they will know where their mistake was. but that kind of ouuchi-gouuchi huddling is just dispensable.

Basically, the moral of this article is give the Albanians everything they want because otherwise they are too violent to control.

I see no experts only students.
One can only wonder who sponsored this international think tank, wait, it's being taken place in Belgrade, gotcha!

So one side is using the Islam card as a variable, which I find rather dubious since, all other things considered, Albanians are some of the most secular people you'll ever meet; and the other side is saying the EU will fix everything, which plays to the rational-institutionalist idea that economic growth solves everything.

First, I find it extremely interesting such a conference like this is being held in Belgrade. It shows there is definitely a willingness to entertain theories and ideas about Kosovo beyond the simple "Kosovo je Srbije" mentality.

Second, I do generally agree with Dr. Juhas on a need for integrating the Balkans into the EU. No doubt Trianon was a major psychological shock to Hungarians at the time, and continues to be not far from the minds of many Hungarian nationalists and their Diaspora today. Yet the fact that international law is forcing individual states to adhere to principles of human rights, the rights of minorities, and foster a feeling of greater economic co-dependence (just look at France and Germany), I do think this is the right way forward for Serbia, for Kosovo Province, for Macedonia, for Bosnia, and for Albania.
