American press is full of speculation on how US is trying to avoid Kosovo independence. Serbia and Russian are preparing surprise and US is nervous. Georgia is already nervous. Russia is moving troops into Georgia where there is a major pipeline for western oil. Also on Dec. 12 Russia formally withdraws from CFE treaty. Now Russian can move its troops anywhere in Europe. Europeans are very nervous indeed.

Ron - First off I'm not aware of the voting procedures in the former Yugoslavia and then Serbia.

But why exactly would they have to?

They had their autonomy status and they could deal with their own problems, that was until Serbia liked to play the switch game with that autonomy and then send in tanks to squash people...

Wasn't it Serbia's desire to keep the Albanians as far away from the Yugoslav political processes as possible? In fact, I remember that Kosovo had veto rights and then they were stripped off just like that.

On the other side, today, Serbs in Kosovo are being offered unseen before priviledges to be part of Kosovo and have been offered even more than their share of representation in the parliament...and they just don't like it?

Well, then so be it, but that only makes it harder on them!

Funcakes, like most of those wanting an independent kosovo you claim 10000 innocent civilians killed "to be exact", the truth is you are miles from "being exact", no one, not even UN teams who searched Kosovo after the 1999 war found any evidence of mass killings of civilians in kosovo ( spanish teams working for the UN made a documented report), even many of the more honest elements of the western media have admitted this fabrication . After the western medias big lies of 100000 civilians "already in shallow graves" (this is what they were saying on british tv in their eagerness to find a reason to bomb yugoslavia) was exposed as a lie they then decided to claim 10000 which is completely unsubstantiated. Anyone who tries to point out the truth about kosovo and the illegal nature of the attempted land grab will inevitably be shouted down in good old fashioned american fashion with the "10000 civilians" lie. It is indicative of the absolute corruptness of some western countries and their moslem ground troops that they need to perpetuate lies to try and present a case for stealing land that doesnt belong to them.

The Serbian leadership should tell the US to pull their troops out of Kosovo and get lost. If the US refuses to negotiate with Serbia, take a hike. They can be EASILY replaced with Russian soldiers.

Albanians have got be very careful. They might get their own state outside Serbia, outside EU, outside UN etc.
They can then talk to Albania and clean the boots of the Americans. Carry on planning the party.

Funcakes,

You are so double-standard!

You blame the Kosovo Serbs not to take part in this election.
Then why did the Albanians not take part in the Serbian and Yugoslave elections?

Funcakes

pre 16 godina

Ron - 2 years have been more than enough in negotiations, Albanians are no longer willing to sacrifice 1 more day in pointless talks.

The compromise for Albanians is not autonomy, but independence with large priviledges to the Serb communities.

The Kosovar parliament is made up of 120 seats, 20 of which are for non-Albanian representatives.

That is a big compromise right there, because 100 seats is only 83% of represenation, when it fact for the Albanians to be proportionally represented...they'd need to have 108 seats, thus 90%.

But autonomy would never be acceptable under no international norm, because the Albanians in Kosovo have been brutalized in 1999 by a country that has toyed with "autonomy" in the past, as it has pleased.

Serbia has formed a dangerous precedent for itself by playing with Kosovo's autonomy in the past, and later on, killing innocent civilians...10000+ to be exact.

These two events have made Serbia lose all claims on Kosovo, and the only agreement to have been made would have been to grant certain priviledges to the Serb community.

However, with the Serb community boycotting polls today, they have certainly made their life harder...because Belgrade won't win this one. In fact, this is Belgrade's revenge for the independent Kosovo.

Serbia knows that Kosovo will be independent, and it wants to have a problematic minority in this new country...and what better way to do it, than not have the Serb community properly represented in the Kosovar parliament. That will surely create problems, but it will be easy now for Kosovo to blame it all on Belgrade when the Serbs start complaining to Pristina.

Mike

pre 16 godina

Now this is major news. If the US is behind the "neutral status" solution, that's he most likely option for Pristina to choose. Moreover, if this is something Washington really wants to push, it places Pristina in a very precarious situation: do they accept the neutral status position, knowing they are nothing without the United States backing them, or do they reject it outright and cause a rift between themselves and their major Western backers? This can only get more interesting as we approach December.

Which part of this statement dont you understand:
We’ve made our position very clear. President George W. Bush has expressed it. Believe me, it hasn’t changed. And the Troika understands it and fully appreciates it, and there really are no differences in opinion effectively.
Surprise Surpise....

Jovan

surprise, surprise...

that shows that the US-administration is looking for a way to escape from its own trap.

but, forget that, my dear american friends...

there will be no neutrality, since UNSC 1244 clearly says what is in effect, what the status quo really is...

now the Albanians here will immediately try to convince us, how this is a sign of american resolve, right?

EA

pre 16 godina

Kosova needs clarity about its future Status and that needs to be done very soon straight after the 10th of December. Kosova has been "neutral" since 1999. Any future negotiations with Serbia after the 10th of December should be based on equallity. If not there should be no further direct talks between Kosova and Serbia after the 10th of December 2007

Funcakes

pre 16 godina

Of course the proposal is in line with US policy, it is also in line with Kosovar policy...the Kosovar side already presented a pact that treats the issues that the "neutral status" treats.

However, this neutral status proposal would prompt a debate on whether the deadline should be extended...in order for all the points in the "neutral status" to be discussed.

And that's where Kosovo says: No more time!

The Troika had 4 months to come up with a "neutral status", and yet they're coming up with it at the last minute?

No thanks.
