Yore all letting the government of Kostunica off its responsibilities for the state of those medical institutions. By saying their is no money which is not true. Kostunicas government bought a telephone Co for 300 million in Srpska. 100s of millions of Euros and other investments there also interest free loans. The money was there all the time to take good care of the patience. The reality of it all is they prioritize that on the budget need very low. Now they are going to set up commissions and try to deflect responsibilities it is just another delay tactic of fixing the sad state affairs now.

I watched a TV report of this on the British Channel 4 TV. While the sight of mentally disabled people (including children) is itself distressing, I could see little evidence of any wrong doing. The facilities used to look after our poor brothers and sisters are certainly not up to Western standards, but they look reasonably clean. I have been to regular hospitals in Serbia, and these too are not up to Western standards, but they are not bad considering the state of Serbia’s economy.

I saw a news item on Serbian satellite TV a few years ago which showed a children’s village built to house orphans and children with disabilities. Children were put into houses and looked after by housekeepers. The idea was to breakaway from institutionalised care and to give children a sense of family and belonging. These children’s villages are being built across Serbia, funds permitting.

When one considers that the authors of this Report, Mental Disability Rights International, are financed by George Soros, one cannot but agree with Mr Kostunica that this smacks of Black Propaganda.

It's a Larger Problem than just "Damage Control" I understand there are over 500 people of all ages Mentally Handicapped in this Instituion. It's something that the European Union and United Nations should regulate and Inspect. International Aid should help. It's like a curse leftover from the Selfish Milosevic Era not of the Post-War New Serbia. I was shocked when I saw the shameful images on American TV but I could not judge until I knew the whole story because one bad apple can spoil a whole Country and this would not be fair. I judge the Serb Citizens not on the infamous Institution or Government Damage Control BUT on Christian Values to restore humanity back the forsaken and forgotten.

Kostunica is wrong to turn this into a political issue. Not everything is the fault of foreign propaganda.
A relevant question may be the role of depleted uranium in regards to increases in cancer and disabilities.
Is there an NGO/charity I can donate to in Serbia for Children in Need?

Treatment of them kids is shameful. Anyone who has seen the images cannot help but feel moved by the plight of the children. Labelling any criticism as fabrications is not a good way to try adjust the problem.

Our minister of health after this should resign. That is at least he could do. His job is to find solution for this kind of situation and I am sure he knew in what conditions these patients live. The meoney must be provided for vulnerable population in order to make decent living conditions and engage more staff if needed.

Kostunica concentrate on the shameful plight of the children in those institutions. Provide the adequate funding and resources to run those institutions properly. Not go on some ludicrous tangent of world fascist conspiracy from WW2. Or have some commissions that just puts of alleviating the shameful festering problems.

hello jack,
those ones, that misuse the money that is meant for the ones in need for their personal luxury must be held accountable

many people working in those "hospitals" have good intentions and the will to help and to make life better for the patients,
but because the budgets get regulary "privatized" before,
everything is getting very difficult to achieve,
and the working athmosphere stays very low,
and sometime things happen thats should not have happend

they do it because they know that nobody cares, so the question is, why does nobody up there in the ministry care

What planet is Kostunica living on? If he genuinely believes two recognised charities would fabricate filmed evidence just to damage Serbia, then he is clearly delusional. It is shameful that the Prime Minister should attack those who uncovered this crime, rather than the system that perpetrated it. I'm sure honest, ordinary Serbs would want him to take action, not deflect blame.

If those accusations are fabricated, those resposible must be accoutable for spreading this propaganda. Every human has the right to be treated with compassion especialy those most vulnerable, children with disabilities and mentally retarded.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

instead of trying to improve the situation for those who can not help themselves, they start some stupid campaign to obfuscate responsibilty

(if they only would visit some of those "hospitals" anonymously, they would never ever produce statements like that)
