Smile,

After my baccalaureat es arts, years ago, I taught for a year and did not like that, and I decided to join the army. After two years, I left and return to the university for a degree in psychology, and I became a psycho-therapist.

In the army, I was a captain for a short while but you can believe that I have been a military... and have learnt about the Geneva Convention and respect of international laws during wartime.

Did General Smith have access to CNN or BBC while vacationing on the Island? Are surveillance tapes available?

He didn't want to talk to Mladic because he believed Mladic took UNPROFOR as hostages? Well with whom do you talk to, the middle men? Does he need to be reminded that he was in General Mladic's jurisdiction?

The UN was smuggling weapons in for the Muslims and spying for NATO which is why they were sometimes taken hostage by the Serbs. But they were always released without so much as a scratch or missed meal. None of them have any scars, and those who choose that profession and get in the middle of other people's wars, plush take sides, can't expect a cake walk.

Besides, the Bosnian Muslims, Mujahadeen and Croats killed or shot at several westerners - soldiers, reporters, other UN personnel etc.

Didn't the Croats also execute a photographer point blank?

Yup, thats a great attitude to take towards the international community. Blame everybody else for your shortfalls, and then complain when you are called on them. Hmm...

«Smith’s refusal to communicate in any possible way with Mladić in June 1995. His superior, French General Janvier, had to do it instead. Smith did not deny his decision was personal. But, he explained, the decision came because Mladić’s troops held UNPROFOR troops as hostages.»

As a former military, I understand General Smith's decision. I think I would have done the same. Mladic had shown no respect for UNPROFOR troops, and he deserved to be completely ignored. General Janvier should have done the same.

General Mladic, I have read in many reports, was a very arrogant, intolerant and aggressive person, and even some western ambassadors portrayed him as a deranged individual.

Having in mind the orders he gave in Srebrenica, something was certainly wrong with General Mladic.
