Don't get to exited about polling and 56% for Kosovo independence because I am sure each one of Kosovo A. voted at least 20 times to make it look good. You are silly with your observations-but if it makes you feel better go vote few more times.
(lola, 11. November 2007 03:08)

Okay? 620-20 is still 600.
Now the voting has reached 724
and it is 57% (previously 56%). I'm not saying a lot, I'm just saying that this is a huge change. It doesn't matter, it's not like B92 poll is going to be the decider of the status.

"Seem that Germany did not decide yet what stand to take. They are very silent on the status. This is good so far. "
Taking silence as a 'good sign' is not such a good sign for Serbia. Recent history should remind Serbs that Germany more often took opposing positions with Serbia and stuck to them. Even when their 'green' party was in control of their govt. policies.

" It is, in essence, facing the choice of whether it wants to resemble the bloodied Palestinian territories or glittering Taiwan "

No nation gets to make future options available to Kosova. And, those two are not the only options open to Kosovars. Kosovars do not have the same history as the Palestinians or the Taiwanese. Their mindset and zeitgeist is predicated on their renewed overwhelming sense of national identity based on their liberation from a 70 year belgrade tyranny and a 400 years Turkish one. Germany was in this position too not too long ago, as was America and many other nations too. Imperialists and colonialists no longer have the dominant world positions. Belgrade needs to rethink its position in the world and ask themselves: Do we seek to be part of the solution or the problem in world affairs? We already know what position their recent govt. took. Time for a new world strategy for Belgrade.

On a serbian website 56% of people believe Kosova will become independent (620 votes).

I would have been happy if 30% believed that Kosova would be free, since Serbian readers to Albanians are 3:1 (at least). But this makes me smile.

In conclusion, Maas said that he did not just what to deal with political issues in Serbia, but Serbia as a whole.

What does this mean? You want to be friends...? Then mind your own business! Kosovo is Serbia and it will always stay like that.

There's a major difference between "hoping" for a compromise, and actually "pushing" for a compromise. No side will be willing to compromise unless their respective backers, Washington and Moscow relent on their deterministic approaches. Time is indeed running out for a "compromise" and if Brussels doesn't want a grease fire in their kitchen on December 11, then they had better stop waiting for someone else to blink first and take a more proactive role as soon as possible.

Joe

pre 16 godina

Victor,

I fully agree with you. After years of procrastination and no action the immediate proclamation of independence is the only solution. Also constant ethnic attacks of Serbs against Hungarians in Vojvodina - 2 recent cases in Temelin alone - prove clearly that in Serbia unfortunately nothing changed. It is still the old mentality and it is a tragedy for Serbia too. Hungarians are harassed on a daily basis. I am so glad that 2 million K-Albanians finally escaped from their oppressors in 1999. Why would they want to do anything anymore with them?

Lenard

Their throwing out solutions ideas fast and thick. I guess they want to say we looked at everything possible and nothing works. Ahatisaari plan is the best solution and it will be the best blue print for Kosovo independence. They still have 30 more days to come up with some more off the wall crazy and wild ideas.

Victor

pre 16 godina

The time for compromise is over. It is time now to move forward and move forward means the immediate declaration of independence.

For years, Serbia dragged its feet on this issue, and did nothing to change things, playing the card of the sovereignty of its territory, forcing other nations to wait and wait... Serbia's politicians know that inaction is often the only and best solution for procrastinators.

"In the absence of a compromise, another solution will be found, though I don’t how this would look, nor do I wish to speculate on it,” added the ambassador.

I understand the good intentions from the Ambassador when he talks about a possible "compromise" but there would be no compromise when it comes to Sovereignity of Kosova. That is the burning issue. At least the parties should agree to disagree on that issue. Then the USA and EU must decide the final status based on historical, geographical, demographical development of Kosova. The blocking practices by one individual country should not be allowed if there would be no unanimous decision either in the UNSC or EU. Even in a sound family can be disagreement but for one individual blocking the lives of the rest of the family is unacceptable in a democratic society.

Sounds to me Germany is backing away from forcing independent Kosovo on Serbia. What's more it's now saying that East-West German model was not seriously considered in the first place.
Maybe Germany listens to what Serbia wants a little more than they let on.
Unlike the US they are not saying that in case of no agreement they will recognize independent Kosovo.
A solution might have to be imposed but since America has already shown their cards and said the imposed solution will be independence why is Germany not following in their footsteps? Maybe they don't agree.
Granting independence has proved to be so much harder than first thought.
