«Let's see what the cards hold for Gotovina .»

At his pretrial hearing this week, Seselj said: "I am being tried for atrocious war crimes that I allegedly committed through hate speech as I preached my nationalist ideology that I am proud of. I have no other involvement in these crimes except for what I said or wrote."

It is the same with Gotovina; I am sure that he never ordered the killing of Serbs in the Krajina. It was the doing of a few militaries and Gotovina has nothing to do with these killings.

It is too bad that the Serb armuày who had evacuated the Krajina left behind the elderly people and those who decided to remain there... no matter!

The assasination of Đinđić was a sad day for all of Serbia.

Hvala Bogu that these criminals were sentenced to at least 40 years - they should have been sent to a labour camp!

Let's see what the cards hold for Gotovina - I'll be dancing in the street once his sentence has been as long or even longer than these criminals!

In my opinion, Milosevic cynically became a nationalist after years as an orthodox Yugoslav communist because communism was failing and apparatchiks such as himself needed a new ideology to legitimise their clinging to power. Serbian nationalism provided him with such an ideology.

Well Victor I agree with some of what you wrote.

However, Legija and company were above all criminals, members of the mafia. Nationalism was only secondary to them - as you should know they had many criminal friends in Croatia.

They may have fooled some people into thinking they were nationalists but they never fooled me. The same statement is true concerning Milosevic.

Now, many years after Milosevic fell there is finally a concensus, even amongst his enemies that he wasnt a nationalist. He was power hungry though, no doubt.

The million dollar question some people ask in Serbia regarding Djindjic???

What if he had been shot and lived? Perhaps the whole system would have been uprooted. Maybe even conflict of some kind.

On the other hand Serbia could be a different place. Djindjic was already dealing with Kosovo. If he took a bullet (and there was some small scale armed conflict) perhaps the internationals would buy the 'pressure by nationalists' line and give Serbia a greater chance.

We will never know.

I hope now that President Dindic's soul rest in peace. He was the best among Serbs, and he was slaugthered because he has a simple goal as a politician and a man: bring to justice all those who had tarnished the image of Serbia during the four lost wars waged by Milosevic.

He had started well but was halted by nationalist Serbs who does not want Serbia to emerge from the chaos.
