Among the seven regional nations striving for the EU, only Croatia may be ready to join before the end of the decade.

Most US citizens are too busy working to pay off their debts to be concerned about a place called Kosovo. The majority could not locate it on a world map and most likely would say it was a part of Russia.
Moreover, when they heard about your unemployment numbers, crime and high birthrate and realized that their taxes would increase to support your lifestyle, they would not be welcoming.

The EU is like a monopoly - any country that joins is based on the bottom line - money! With regard to other nations being in queue to join the epitomes "member states", one should look at the whole picture - there are countries that are in due to being a "shoo in" - like Makedonija for their coast line, which is sure to generate revenue as well as the money generating Croatia's coastline.
If there isn't money to be gained from the country - they will not be considered - in other words, "no free rides".
Croatia will more than likely be a part of EU, but they must remember that Slovenija holds a key to alot. They really need to watch big brother as Croatia is too hostile right now to get the backing of Slovenija.

It would be interesting to hear an explanation from the EU as why the non-arrest of Mladic by Serbia is more of an obstacle to joing than Croatia not taking any serious steps to enable the Serbs who were forced out in 1995 to return.
