Dear readers,

First I want to genuinely thank B92 for having a mechanism where free speech in its truest form can be expressed.

On the topic of Bosnia and its 'three' nationalities, I tend to disagree with most. For people who have had multiple generations live in the one same country to identify themselves as people from a totally different country is absurd. That is, why should there be a distinction (on the basis of nationality) between a Serb, Croat or Muslim having many generations living in Bosnia?

They are all BOSNIANS who may have a different RELIGIOUS background - which should not by any means detach them from the geographical and historical fact that they are simply BOSNIANS.

If I live in Canada, why should my descendants (even a few generations away) refer to themselves as anything but Canadians? Yes, they may have a specific religious background and their ancestors are of a different nationality - but it is absurd for them to identify themselves as anything but Canadians (for example).

We should stop these religiously-based divisions in Bosnia. They have no place in a country that has been ravaged for those same reasons by years of war. There is no place for religious intolerance and segregation in Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Warm regards to all readers. Even though you may disagree with me, I have the utmost respect for you in expressing your opinions and removing some misconceptions through a free discussion.

if you ever had any lessons in history of the balkans, ...then you should know that Bosnia, as you call it was a serbian kindgdom in the middle-ages...and the percentage of the serbian population was decimated due to brutal force first from the open-minded ottoman muslims and later on from the open-minded Croats...
what is croat-dominated today was serbian in the past. even up to the region of todays city of Split the coast-region was inhabited by Serbs...
and before someone starts boasting about a "THIRD POEPLE" in Bosnia... he should keep in mind that this third poeple is actually only a religious community a, they were only upgraded to a "nation" by the croat-dictator Tito in return for cheap oil from Lybia. check if for yourself, if you do not believe that.

I urge you not to forget that.

My neighbour Belgium is falling apart. EU member Belgium. Home of EU and NATO!

If even there North and South want to go their own way why should we force Bosnia to stay intact.

I also think that most Croats want to join Bosnia?!

vujadin, it was not my intention to offend. When I said that about Bosnia, I was refering to Bosnia in its current borders. But I know that Bosnia existed many centuries before that, with some different borders… as the same way that Serbia and Croatia.

"Bosnia in its current territory exists as a unitary territory and government since the 19th century, when it was an Austrian province."

i love it when people with no knowledge about their own country's history go off on other people on these misinformed rants...

just for the sake of knowledge, bosnia was a state since the 12th century... here is a map.

Bosnia was one of the six republics of the former jugoslavija and had a right under the Constitution to secede. Kosovo is a part of Serbia...as a sovereign state. Do you not see the different?

“Re-read what you said. U make no sense. Bosnia did exist as part of Austria. So it didnt exist.”

Well, I’ve read it, and I still think I’m right.

Look at the History. I’ve said that Bosnia in its current borders existed since Austrian-Hungarian times, but before that pratically all of territory of Bosnia was a province of European part of Turkey for at least three consecutive centuries.

In the last half-millenium, BOSNIA WAS NOT PART OF SERBIA in any way or form. Since the Middle Ages, Bosnia was part of Turkey, part of Austria, and then part of Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Fascist Croatia and then Socialist Yugoslavia.

And, I know some truths hurts, but the fact is that in a modern sense BOSNIA IS AN OLDER INDEPENDENT COUNTRY THAN SERBIA. Bosnia as an integral country was recognized by the international community and the United Nations since 1992. Serbia, as an independent internationally-recognized country, exists just since the dissolution of Serbia and Montenegro (former Milosevic’s Yugoslavia).

Bosnia exists, and the Bosnian people exists, too. What this country needs is to end the “ethnic dispute” which is in fact just RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE and SEGREGATION, Lebanon-style.

If you can’t live close to another family in the same street just because it has a different religion than yours (and want to kill or expel the whole family just because their members have a different religion), sorry, but you are not a normal Western-civilized person. You’re just a FANATIC.

There is simply one solution to the Bosnian political crisis, that is divide the country 3 ways-it is simple as that. BL to the serbia proper, MO to Croatia and SA to the muslims. Why is this so bloody hard to do. The way Bosnia is going it will never have peace, nor wealth nor prosperity. For the future of Bosnia and its people lets segregate then I can guarentee you that we will work together. "For the petitioning of Bosnia"

No, Bosnia IS NOT an artificial state. Republika Srpska and Herceg-Bosna are artificial.

Bosnia in its current territory exists as a unitary territory and government since the 19th century, when it was an Austrian province.

The mini-me versions of “Croatia” and “Serbia” carved inside Bosnia in the 90’s have NO historical tradition, and were created on basis of killing, expuslions, mass rape and genocide.

In the name of a supposed and delusional “vengeance against all that centuries of Muslim Ottoman yoke”, many Bosnian Christian fanatics (the Chetniks and Ustasha-sympathizers) still today really want to divide and extingish Bosnia and to wipe out all the Muslims killim them and/or deporting them to Turkey. But this WILL NOT happen, because the Western troops will prevent it.

to ron: it would be probably be costly to come to visit bih, so please take the time to look at a detailed map of bosnia and look how the "border" between rs and federation is drawn, and you will see, why statements of some split up come only form serbs that live in bl and leave it on only by plane to belgrade or by croats who are living in a village at the border to croatia

most of the others realized that they depend on a functioning economy that is not blocked by new frontiers

ever thought about all the ones that return after a long time from kanada and australia, and tried to come back to their life as it once was???

have you counted the villages that a absolute croat majority and is has it's strongest links to other croat-majority viallages in bosnia or to croatia??? you would not have to count for long

all those split-up talks miss the point, that people have to live with it, that they have to earn some money

they should not talk about a split up, that would drive hundred thousands out of the country,... thy should help press the politicians here to change ligislation, so that the conduct of legal business would be easier...

Do not push it Serbs you might lose more than Kosovo. Croatia is not supporting the Bosnian Croatians having there entity. There telling them to work in the Bosnian frame work. It is not all or nothing but if the Serbs insist on it theres a good possibility they will lose big time in Srpska. Do not expect the Croatians support or joining your hate & trouble making. Serbs have caused more than enough suffering ,murder ,stealing destruction of other peoples homes and lives.Give it a break learn the way of peace.

Oh give it a break Srboslav...bosnians have no intention of "Dominian" over any of you. What ALL nationalists need to realise and accept...is that Bosnia is going nowhere and so neither are their pathetic lives, until we work TOGETHER. We need a united state for this to happen. The sooner the better. Bosnia is not going to split up as many Serbs wish to fantasize...because the same truth still remains as it did in 1992...THERE ARE ALSO a 3rd PEOPLE IN BOSNIA, not just the croats and serbs.

So what Stjepan is saying between the lines is that the croats of Bosnia and Herzeg-Bosna should accept muslim domination???

I am not a nationalistic serb, I support the croats fight for non-muslim domination, but the serbs in RS should have the same right.

Its time to put old quarells behind, there should be a referendum in the whole BiH if RS and the croat parts should have the right to succede from BiH. I am convinced that a majority of BiH citizens don't want the artificial state of BiH.

After all, Bosna-Herzegovina is only the name of a geographical territory, not a functional, independent, soverign state
