The Croatian ambassador is right, but at the end of the day, no matter what someone says there is constant banter between all peoples of the Balkans. You now have all these artificial states created with minorities living in them and constant conflict (if not war then opinions), when will it end?

I say bring back the old Yugoslavia. If there was ever a time that the people's in these regions coexisted and lived in peace, it was under Tito in the old Yugoslavia.

The Croatian Ambassador is saying a negotiated out come is preferd. So they can negotiate forever Serbs and Albanians have uncertainty very little investments. While Croatia cleans up on international investments. Do not worry Croatians haven't fallen suddenly in love with the Serbs.

And I urge the croatian ambasador to do the same in Croatia, to compromise with the Krajina Serbs, to give them Glina, Dvor, Lapac, Borovo, Vukovar... clearly croatia is not ready to do a compromise, so why should they tell us to do that?

You may or may not agree with Mika's comment but there are some hard truths in it. In the early 90s Croatia was a country ruined by war - by the Serbs - and look at it now. And then look at Serbia sliding deeper and deeper into isolation and yes we are all stuck here, in a region that is being held hostage by the Kosova issue.
The absurdity of the position of the ordinary Serbs here is that the more support they lend to their govt for such policies the harder their lives will become and still you won't get Kosova back. It is gone, we won't let you come back and knowing that international law is only as good as those who back it you don't have a chance of ever ruling there again. Your prime minister knows full well that the most he can hope for is the Northern bit, but it suits him to drag things on. After all this situation enables him to reinforce his image as father of the nation. The problem is that if you but scratch the surface of any father of any nation - chosen at random - you will find some megalomaniac dictator or aspiring dictator.

Kosovo is holy. Kosovo was the birthplace of Serbian religion, anyone that states for the Serbs to forget the stories they were told as kids, and to move on with life, has no understanding of true pride, faith, and existence. It is correct we all live on Earth and life is not great, but you cannot deny or take away the birthplace of their religion because of who lives there now. If you look at stats, before WWII, Serbs were still a majority in Kosovo. World WAr II started in 1939, now...in the last 70 years times have changed, and the Albanian population is overwhelming. Had the Serbs driven them out then it would've been called genocide. The SErbs have been in Kosovo for hundreds of years, and it has been SErbian territory for hundreds of years. Albanians have merely become a majority over the last 40 years. Now we should redraw borders, and grand them independance. This is the most foolish, and uneducated argument that anyone could make, regardless, of race, religion, or nationality.

Wars are began when people start demanding improbable things. Regardless of nationality, different races live all over the world. Turks in Germany, Chinese in America, British in Africa, it goes on and on. YOu have a choice on where to live, that does not mean that you have the right to start a war by requesting to create your own county within another country's sovereign borders. That would never happen to the US.

It's time for the Albanians to realize, they have their state, Albania. Now if they want to live in Kosovo, that's a part of SErbia, and that's their choice, if not, they are free to go to another country. Kosovo needs to stay Serbian, and SErbian people should not be treated as a minority there. Kosovo's Albanians are willing to die for the country they tried to falsely and illegally create?? This is foolish, ridiculous, and I hope that the international community wakes up to support Serbia, and maybe in the future, these issues won't arise in other areas of the world, and maybe there can be peace and calm in the Balkans.

@ to Kate & Ratko :
It's easy to talk for homeland in which probably you have never been at , giving lessons of International Law , soverignity or international recognized borders . Kosova ( i guess Ratko was refering at to when he wrote KiM ? ) is a main problem of people who actually lives there , those people are hostagess of Serbians dream of Greater Serbia , a project made by Vaso Čubrilović in ''Načrtanija '' , borrowing details from Serbian myths and legends .
I wonder where was your concern for International Law while Serbian forces made ethnic cleansing over Kosovar Albanians , or maybe you pretend it never happened ? If you pretend Kosova is Serbian territory , how you explain the fact that Serbian forces murdered , raped , displaced , deported ''own '' citizens , burning their homes ( more than 100.000 houses ) , destroying their documentation , hopping they will never come back ? How do you plan to integrate those people into Serbian juridiction.

Compromise is the best thing but one cannot compromise its own territory. Everybody knows Kosovo belongs to Serbia no matter how much the Albanians are trying to say differently. A compromise can only be reached within the borders of Serbia.

Once upon a time , there was a war between Croatia and Serbia , bloody war with a thousands killed , couple of thousands displaced people and an hard statement by Serbian Government that they will never -ever accept the independence of Croatia .
Now , some 12 years after , Croatian ambasador in Belgrade is urging two parties for finding compromise over final status of Kosova , promising that Croatia as a temporary member of Secourity Council will work hard to hear the voices of small countries ...
It's really amazing to watch how things change in this modern life , few years ago Croatia was unrecognized country and today is offering her help for recognized Serbia to overcome their problems . I think it's about time for Serbian people to understand that they should live in reality and in present time , to forget stories they listen as a kids for Kosovo as a cradle of serbians , Car Lazar and a dream of Kingdom of Heaven .We are all grounded here , haven't saw heaven yet , but still live in this hell on earth with no perspective for better life because of some dreams that my dearest neighbors dreamed a long time ago , their myths and legends .
Presently , Serbia is refusing to admit indenpendence of Kosova , making entire region a hostige of those myths and dreams , meanwhile even Bulgaria and Romania are in EU . Kosovars made enough compromisses , we are ready to let behind us all violations made by Serbians ,hopping in better future for new generations that are coming .

On May 21 1999, at the height of NATO bombing, Franco Tudjman invited G8 ministers to his presidential palace in Zagreb. First lecturing them that Kosovo was “the cradle of Serb statehood and nation,” he then proposed “the withdrawal of all Serb forces and the Army of Yugoslavia *to the northern part of Kosovo* where peace would be kept by UN forces, probably of the Russian Federation. In the rest of Kosovo, international military forces would be deployed which would enable return of refugees.”
(Marinkovic, G, “The Strange Man from Pantovcak,” Alternative Information Mreza, May 25, 1999)

Ironically enough as it may sound, with Croatia entering the Security Council and Slovenia heading up the EU in 2008, Serbia’s interests look like being well served. Probably all the more reason for Kosova to make it happen by Christmas, if Serbia still refuses to compromise and live in neighbouring equality.
