Funcakes,

You are very funny. So because EU and NATO are on your side, you are ´right´.
And as Tibet had not the support of EU and NATO they are ´wrong´.

Ron

pre 16 godina

EA,

A peaceful split is possible. Both sides must agree. In this case both sides DO NOT agree.
Well, they don't in Tibet. Still, no NATO troops in Tibet.

Get over it. Kosovo is a Serbian province!

Funcakes

Ron - The Albanians don't WANT independence...they WILL declare independence, and they have the US and most of EU of their side.

That's it. I won't explain to you why Kosovo is a unique case, because I have done so in countless articles and you keep denying it.

George - The Albanians have always been the protagonists when it comes to EU unity. Some like them, some don't. But these are not the same Albanians of a century ago we're talking about now, these are a new breed of Albos that will not allow EU unity to decide for their fate. In fact, the EU is already split...otherwise, if they really wanted unity, they'd not be making "split statements" like the ones they're making right now with France pro and Spain against independence.

EU's biggest success would be to jointly recognize independence. Otherwise, they'll just re-inforce the already painted crack in the block.

However, what you people seem to keep denying is the fact that:

1.Kosovo can and has vowed to declare independence

2. they have western support

So how exactly can the declaration of independence be stopped? A declaration of something can't be stopped, the international law doesn't ban declarations of independence.

The only difference this time is that enough countries will recognize (which is still legal), so it will become official, whether anyone likes it or not. It's just unavoidable and perfectly legal too. How nice!

Ron,
That what we all are hoping for "a peaceful split is possible" and more realistic that a "forced marrage" with Serbia. You come from a western country and know what happens in a "forced marrage".))

Ron

pre 16 godina

EA,

If Kosovo and Serbia BOTH agree that Kosovo must be independent who am I to say no!

Just get along with each other. Look at Eritrea-Ethiopia. A peaceful split is possible.

You can also change international law and then use that new law to gain independence. But that ofcourse will then also apply for Kurdistan, Basque, Tibet, ....

EA

pre 16 godina

RON,

What is stopping you to say that Kosova must be independent and then ask the questions

"Why NATO fought for Kosovo and why NATO members are helping Turkey to crush on the Kurds?
Why is the West figthing for Kosovo and why is the West doing nothing for Tibet?
If the Albanians here say to you "You are right Nato should......" Would you ask your Dutch country man to support hard Kosova's independence? )))) Ron, without you we are "stuck".))

UNMIK needs to leave - all of the activity that was supposed to die down with the peacekeepers has only gotten worse.

How can ANYONE in their right mind trust an organization of peacekeepers to do anything right when drug & human (slavery) activity has gone through the roof.

Nice job UNMIK - with a group like you, who needs enemies?

Ron

Funcakes,

I can see that Albanians want independence. Of course. But same goes for Kurds and others.

Why NATO fought for Kosovo and why NATO members are helping Turkey to crush on the Kurds?
Why is the West figthing for Kosovo and why is the West doing nothing for Tibet?

If you can answer that, maybe I will support an independent Kosovo. If Serbia agrees ofcourse.

Look at Eritrea and Ethiopia. You can split as friends.

If not: it is a pity. Go aks the Tibetans and Kurds.

Funcakes

pre 16 godina

Ron - Go tell that to those 2 million people waiting for the independence on December 10th, maybe they'll greet you with the same enthusiasm.

Doubt it.

Also try stopping them from declaring independence if you can.

Doubt it.

Also try changing the mind of US and most of EU about it, 8 yrs after they've made it up.

Doubt it.

Too much has gone on in a different direction from what you're suggesting...no one is gonna reverse all those years and erase all the events with just 1 month left until the big day.

Start facing it.

Funcakes:

"Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Lisbon on Thursday that Russia is firmly opposed to a unilateral independence of Kosovo and to new sanctions against Iran."

It seems to me that Kosovo issue will be "solved" in the bigger framework of the Moscow vs. Washington controversy over US missiles shield and Iran dossier. If this is the case, then all the bets are off...

However, whatever the decision regarding Kosovo, it will be handed over for implementation to EU (for financial reasons, and because Balkans have no future without EU support and involvement). And in EU, the problems with Kosovo independence are three: Greece, Cyprus, and Spain.

Yes, three, not four or five, because I believe Romania and Slovakia will step back - being too new into EU club, and not wanting to put themselves in a bad light as spoilers of EU unity (especially that bigger spoilers are already at the table).

We are all in for a very interesting end of the year, isn't it? I shall make sure I have my VCR tuned om CNN International on December 10... just in case...

EA,

I do agree with you: the time has come. Reintegration in Serbia. Autonomy. 1244.

Face it. Kosovo is NOT an independent state. It is a province. But hey, life can be pretty nice in a province also.

Who are they to talk.!
In 8 years of taking over Kosovo UMNIK and KFOR did nothing but watched and helped albanians do sistematic ethnic cleansing, drug and human trade. And we all thought it was becouse of their understending for albanian hardship.
