Ms Del Ponte should know by now that Mladic is well protected: by the army, by the gorvernment and by a majority of Serbs, especially in the diaspora. He is seen as a hero, an no sanctions, no money, will ever have an influence in the matter.

Fifteen years after the genocide in Bosnia, the world is already forgetting what has happened there.
What a shame!

To John3 - I hate that you stole my moniker!

The Serbs should stay the heck out of the EU as that is one union that will dissolve faster than a Pamela Anderson marriage.

John: since you are in serbia, why don't you give Del Ponte a hand to locate Mladic? ;-)

Please don't come to me saying what heppened in other countries is not true: unbelievable!

I do agree part of the old generations and people that live in deep Serbia are still remembering the past that made Serbia such a great Nation, but would you blame them?
I think that we have and still paying a big tribute for the past but now is time to move on, in peace, without Europe and still in one piece from Vojvodina till Pristina!

Ziveli to all!:-)

I am living in Serbia and I am amazed how Serbs have no self reflection, no sense for their responsibilities for the recent past, but feel like victims of the bad outside world. Everybody gets the blame except Serbia. Many Serbs are convinced that Serbia has clean hands and that all the problems are coming from outside, being forced on the country.

Well, I agree, Serbs are victims, but of their own behavior. Behavior which has highly contributed to the dissolution of Yugoslavia and which is causing until today further desintegration.
Even today Serbia's policies are not aiming at integration and stabilising of the Balkans.
Serbia is confrontational, almost agressive, towards its own non-Serb citizens and does want to accept certain realities.

In many Balkan countries people have sentiments to legendary past, in particular to medieval past. In Serbia this sentiments are so strong that the people have forgetten that we live in 2007 and the problems are from today, not from the 13th century.

I cannot comment on your remarks about France, Italy and Germany, because you know that what you mention there is just not true.
Germany has dealt with its past in a very good way. It accepts full responsibility for its behavior. Serbia could take a lesson from that.

Criminals are everywhere and we are fighting them. Also Serbia is fighting against crime. But in the Mladic case we are not talking about ordinary crime, but about about mass killings of thousands and thousands of people, the biggest war crime after 1945 and I would say it is Serbia's responsibility to solve this by arresting Mladic. Denying this responsibility is making you guilty for those horrible events in 1995.

Is that right? I will not waste my time even beginning to give you examples to prove that your statement is simply not true.

Igor,
May I remind you that Serbia has silently blessed the mass killings in Srebrenica, the biggest war crime after WW II. The International Court was very clear about that, Serbia did nothing to prevent those mass killings. So, what is international law for Serbia?

Serbs have bombed Sarajevo, have started ethnic cleansing in Croatia and Bosnia. Not a very positive record of respecting international law.

The siutation in Kosovo is the result of Serbian rule there, rule of disrespect of citizens and violating human rights of 2 million citizens.

Ovich,
That is really good news. I am sure you are one of those against EU Membership. I would be more than happy if Serbia will join Russia instead of Europe. EU doesn't need a trouble maker like your country is. And don't forget, Serbia is very tiny, insignificant place. You need EU more, than we need you.

WOW! it's always interesting to read these posts from people that live abroad and obviously doesn't have a CLUE of what's going on in Serbia.

John3 says EU doesn't need a country that protects criminals: well Germany has been protecting Nazis for 40 years eventually found them, 50 years after the end of WWII when they were all in their 90's, too easy!

Spain and France are still hosting without hiding italian red brigades, a buch of terrorists, all wanted in Italy for bombing and murders back in the 70's and 80's.

Please John could you reminde me if Germany, spain and france are part of EU?

Ms Dal ponte is putting pressure on Serbia for her personal ego. The tribunal is a set for cartoons and the EU is the biggets dum bin in this world.... countries such as Bulgaria and Romania being part of it makes me wonder every day why we should join EU.

Igor,

When a country violates international law so blatantly and arrogantly like Serbia did in 1999 (not to mention the years before) by turning against 2 millions of its own citizens than bombing and partial occupation followed by recognition of independence is the most natural thing to do. Innocent, peaceful law-abiding countries never get bombed.

to john.

Who told you serbia want to join EU?
As i know in 2 years the number of EU integration in serbia felt from 70% to 51%.
We will see if somebody still wants EU in serbia when all this story is finished.

Igor

pre 16 godina

John, you are saying that somebody is violating international law. I'mean Serbia was bombed and is currently occupied by other forces. Now they want to recognize part of Serbia as an independent country. So what exactly is international law for you?

John3

pre 16 godina

Come on Carla, show the Serbs your muscles. All these years Serbia has done nothing, only making empty promises. Mr Mladic and co. were protected by Serbian officials, also by Mr Kostunica who openly refused to arrest any war criminal.

Carla, nothing else than the arrest can be positive in your report. We don't need a country in the EU, which is not able/willing to deal with its own dark past and which has constantly frustrated the work of the Tribunal, thereby violating international law.
