KS- Just to inform you I have some Albanian friends that have immigrated to the US from Kosovo. They also think that the independence idea is extremely ridiculous and dead. Your claim on Kosovo is going down the drain when your own people are starting to reject the idea. That is mostly where i get my news because i can't seem to find an Albanian site where i can read anything reliable.
Suzy, I would like you to come to Kosova and point to one household which has a family of 10-12 members (wife + husband, 8-10 kids). I have never read anything as racist." (KS, 18. October 2007 06:22)
I don't have to come to Kosovo to know this, my father lived there for 22 years, lived next to an Albanian family with 12 children, went to school with them, their cousins and friends. Each family consisted of at the least 8 children and ok we'll say the most of being 10. And please don't insult me by calling me rasist, because my statement is a fact and not a comment or my own personal beleif.

"You standing up for Serbia and the Serbian cause is one step to wrong for you. I don't know where this hate towards Albanians and America comes from but it seems to derive mainly from countries such as Serbia. "

I have no hatred to Albanians and also no hatred towards America, perhaps just irritation towards America and their policies. I am also not standing up for Serbia, Serbia is not my concern in this issue at all, what I am concerned about is stability in the region and the international law that was devised to maintain such stability, and how these factors are being totally ignored by America in the name of their policy.

"Peter get this one straight..WHICH COUNTRY IN THE WORLD HAS THE MOST MILITARY BASES? Is it America? "

So what?

"Stop trying to beat this Iraq, Afghanistan argument. It's old, you sound like a republican who can't stand the fact that 08 is the sound of a Democratic president. "

You said America delivers, this is proof that they cannot deliver everytime.

Anyhow, you can defend America until you are blue in the face, and laugh off Russia as well, at the end of the day what will probably happen is Kosovo will declare independence from Serbia, US will recognize as well as some of the EU states and you will have your little country.

Problem is that Kosovo then will never be able to join the UN, because Russia and China will veto the decision of UN membership. You can say that they don't matter, but if they really didn't, Kosovo would have been independent legally a long time ago.

An even bigger problem is that an independent Kosovo will not be able to join the EU, because 5 of the 27 states will not have even recognized your independence, so they will veto membership.

Naturally if Kosovo wants independence and they will get support from America and some of the EU states, more than likely they will get some sort of independence, but the fact of the matter is that by not abiding international law, you will not be able to go further than independence. You will be a quasi-independent state.

Is this what Kosovo wants? Independence for the sake of the benefits legally independent states enjoy?

Kosovars should think about what they are doing, because the world is not always going to sidestep their laws for you, it will not be worth it.

I wonder how you Serbs learn facts of history---is it through campaign election advertisement that you see on tv? I find it very hard to believe that most Serbs are open minded and read news or history from more than one source.

Us Albanians read news not only from our sources, from yours, from world wide---but the fact that you refuse to let serbianna go and read somewhere else is just shocking.

For God's sake, our news media comes in 5 different languages: Albanian, Serbian, Turkish, etc.
Tell me how much news do you read from an Albanian source?

Just an observation, which has nothing to do with the issue in the article.

Dear Suzy. where did the serbs come from? When did the serbs first settle in Kosova? Of course the answer is, they came from Russia around 8th century after Christ. While Albanians have been in Kosova for a 1000 years before that. Please, before commenting learn your own history. Serrbs are a relatively new nation in the Balkans.

Tell me KS, what has America delivered Iraq or Afghanistan? Absolutely nothing! They will not achieve anything!

The same military disasters by Russia in Chechnya and Afghanistan (in the 80's) have been equaled by America in Afghanistan and Iraq. Seems like they have not learned anything since Vietnam.

Tell me KS, what will America "deliver" now that Iran has continued their nuclear program and what will America "deliver" now that the Turkish parliament has approved sending armies into Northern Iraq to crush the Kurdish PKK? Will they proceed to bomb two Muslim countries with 70+ million people whilst continuing their wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?

We can already see that the dollar is falling on its behind and that crude oil is rising to record heights.

The rest of the Coalition forces should just back out of Afghanistan and Iraq and leave America to their own stupidity.

Russia is hardly a worry for a potentially independent Kosovo. Worry about any of the veto holding EU countries that will not recognize your independence, let alone your EU membership. Miri- I wasn't taught to beleive anything, I read history. Albanians became the majority after Tito came into power. Nobody ever said that your people weren't there, you just over populated within the last lets say 40 years. Which made you the majority. If Tito din't allow so many Albanians in from Albania proper and they didn't have 10-15 children in each family do you think that we would be going through all this. I'm not saying Tito was bad for Jugoslavia, he just made the wrong choices. I'm sure we all want the best for Kosovo but independance isn't the way to go. I know Serbs to be very bull headed but Albanians seem to be the same,if we could both just back down a little and come to a comprimise and find the best solution for both Kosovo and Serbia proper and of course the people(Serbian and Albanian) living within the boundries of Kosovo it would the best for every body including the EU. Alot of time and energy has been spent on Kosovo and it's status. It needs to come to an end. Again don't get me wrong, I'm Serbian from Kosovo and a lot of my family has had to move into Serbia proper so I am angry as much as the next guy. But we have to have a level head and realize that all these threats and veto's from Russia, Cyprus etc.. mean squat. In the end the fate of kosovo lies within the hands of The Troika.

Luckily Russia has not veto power in the troika decision.

When Kosova was given to Serbia as a gift at the beginning of the century no-one proposed any negotiations between Serbs and Albanians, let alone for those negotiations to continue "forever" like Russians are proposing. The decision was taken without Albanians consent. At that time Serbia rushed to crush any Albanian resistance, be that moral, political or physical.
I just looks now, that it was a big mistake that needs to be corrected with or without Russia's will. For those that claim that we are not at the beginning of the century, it looks like the history repeats itself only that this time Serbia is in the wrong side.
