The story is fairly bizarre. Mr Zogaj immigrated into Austria illegally in 2001 and subsequently applied for asylum (refugee status) there. His request was promptly denied. For some reason, he *then* let the rest of his family come to Austria as well (again, illegally). Of course, their request for asylum was promptly denied as well. Since then, the family has been trying all possible means to get legal immigrant status in Austria, up to the highest courts. All those attempts were rejected, as there just is no legal basis for their refugee status or regular immigration. It was clear from the very beginning that it would turn out like that, still the Zogaj family was unwilling to accept any court rulings and simply insisted on staying in Austria.

And now, there's a big outcry that the poor innocent family must return to their native Kosovo, where life for Albanians is supposedly horrible..

Let me get this straight, you illegally immigrate to another country and request political aslyum, now your country Kosovo is no longer under threat of expulsion or any other type of violence. You decide you rather stay in Austria rather that return to your country. There you have schools, jobs if you want to work and place to build a bright future. But no, rather stay in Austria and have a better life. Those points don't add up, eveyone left kosovo when the Serbs chased them out, NATO chased out the Serbs forces now everything bright and cheerful. Why not come back to Kosovo. It is going to be a great place to live. Now this young lady send a tape saying she will kill herself rather than return to Kosovo well i don't think it is a great of a place to be because the EU is the good life. I believe the EU is rethinking this Kosovo matter because once the EU takes over Kosovo the flood gates will open and everyone will be heading for Western Europe for the good life. I am sure if this is posted everyone will say no they won't but they will head West. A poster said before that Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe and are eager to work IE run for Germany, Switzerland etc. We will see what the future holds.

The truth is that the majority of K.albanians who have applied for asylum in EU countries after 1999, have done so for eceonomic reasons and not safety.

Obviously families want a better life and they try and acheive it in different means. If they manage to convice/lie the authorities of the country that they are in, that they are unsafe in Kosovo, then fair play to them.

However if your application is unsuccessful, then accept it and move back to Kosovo. Don't embarrass whole of Kosovo by doing everything possible not to return there - there are 2 million K.albanains living in Kosovo, and its your country!!
