Croatia has every right to push for justice. The Hague pressured Croatia over Gotovina who by the way was hiding in other EU countries despite their claims he was in Croatia.

They want Croatia to comply with their demands but then decide to give these war criminals freedom to walk away.

I actually watched the B92 documentary (on Youtube) and even this Serbian made documentary shows the role these men played in Vukovar's destruction and the murder of the civilians and surrendering Croatian forces.

Some Serbs here should watch this unbiased documentary and learn a few things ....

Well done B92 for the documentary.

Let me see Victor.
I know, no-“we all know”-you changed your mind once again.
It is acceptable for you to judge others but not for someone to judge your comments.

Maybe you do have short-term memory loss or you are unfamiliar with the concept of being principled.

How hypocritical that you should be judging and defining anyone to be hateful.

to Victor - this will not happen as the ICTY has already filed the paperwork away.

Serbia had their "war criminals" tried in the ICTY & their judgements were passed onto them - done deal.

Please don't come back with a post on the "two war criminals" you've referenced in the past as they are in Bosnia under UN sanction - bring your concern up with Carla.

alsatian,
Bravo! Thank you for your words of wisdom.

I agree that it's wrong that Croatia has exerted diplomatic pressure on a court which is supposed to be neutral and apolitical.

However, it seems most of people don't see Croatia's point of view, and that point of view isn't unreasonable at all. Vukovar was shelled for three months with several thousands of artillery shells a day. Many civilians were killed. When Serbian paramilitaries entered Vukovar, they've brutally murdered many innocent people. Around 200 people were tortured and murdered at Ovcara, and Mrksic, Sljivancanin, and possibly Radic were among those who were responsible. They deserve a harsher penalty for such a crime.

I know for sure that there were Croats who committed terrible crimes during the war, and I agree that they should be sentenced to many years of prison.

To demand that the Vukovar three are punished more harshly isn't anti-Serbism. It's simply a demand that justice is done on people who are guilty of a terrible crime.

I'm not too particularly concerned with the ruling of the court, seeing as how nearly every ruling thus far has been criticized for being too harsh, or too lenient. The main problem here is that it is an international court, which claims to have a higher mandate of the law over those of national governments. This was a similar problem with the Nuremburg Trials as well.

Besides, if we can use Nuremburg as an example, the three defendants in the main trial - Schacht, Von Papen, and Fritzche - who were acquitted were all retried and given stiff sentences and penalties by the West German court - rulings no one disputed.

B92 offers us a place to truly express our views, what ever side you take. There is no other forum like it to my knowledge. Do like I do, and just ignore the haters - and they will probably go away. Hate has to be acknowledged to be effective, so don't!

Definition…
Coercion is the practice of attempting to have a person behave in an involuntary way (whether through action or inaction) by use of threats, intimidation or some other form of PRESSURE or force.

Coercion is against the law in democratic and civilized societies, is considered a crime and therefore punishable by law.

For victor every Serb is guilty before proven innocent.

But when it comes to bosnian muslims, albanians and especially croats; they are all angels no matter what. And they are all innocent until proven guilty.

victor your anti-serbiism is clear in each of your posts.

Victor I agree with frans comment.

Courts of law are supposed to be independent of government pressure. In the systems of former Yugoslavia this was not the case and this continues to be the way things are done. That is the wrong, authoritarian attitude.

We do not need people like yourself (on the wrong side of the argument, instead of arguing for judicial independence) arguing for political meddling in court decisions.

The Hague from the beginning should have been immune from pressure from ALL nation states. I wish that all countries that tried to apply political pressure to the court from the beginning would be sanctioned.

@Victor & Lenard. Wonder where you live, in what country and with what kind of laws. You ever heard about a court in your country? And ever heard that judges are independent and that their verdict is only to be judged if an appeal occurs? So, why you all (and above all the Croatian politicians!) want to discuss this? Many people in the Hague got sentences higher or lower as expected. What's your point? It is a shame that a country like Croatia which is on the right way to Europe has now suddenly a drawback with this nationalistic behaviour

Former chief prosecutors and administrators how have resigned. Have complained of the Hague courts unscrupulous deal making. To the detriment of law and justice to the victims. The Hague court should be scrutinized by a independent law body. Rectify its policy that come short of justice & law for the 10s of thousands of innocent victims.

«Croatia reacted with an uproar as the Hague passed the Vukovar Three ruling.»

With reason. Captain Radic took his orders from Mrksic and Sljivancanin on the terrain, and he is just as guilty as the others.

I agree with Mr Sanader that Croatia makes pressure on the ICTY to review the sentence and send Radic to the hague where he belongs.
