Serbia has absolutely no say over independence, it lost Kosovo due to it's erratic policies. You can't claim back a place where you launched a brutal inhuman war against it's people and lost it.

That's why, independence has happened, and the Albanians with their allies are making you an offer...Ahtisaari rights for your minority and cultural sites, through UNSC or else.

That's what the negotiations are all about. They also have a final deadline. And then there will be no more negotiations, because independence can be declared, and whoever wants to recognize it, will do so.

Fair is fair.

"The Albanians have already made the compromise by accepting the Ahtisaari plan, so the only side left to act is Serbia."

Aha, so that means Serbia has no say in the matter and only the Albanians have the right to their demands?

Serbia has not accepted it, so that means that this plan is no longer an option.

Serbia offered "widest autonomy" and Albanians refused.

Solution - keep negotiating and find a valid compromise for both.

Coscovo,
The Friendship Pact is on offer....You don't have to take it but you also can take it when you will be ready psycologically.
Python,
You said that "sooner or later a compromise will be found". I like your "enthusiasm" but did you mean by Kosovar Albanians will agree to remain part of Serbia. Have my assurance that will not happen.

This Friendship pact from the Albanians really makes me laugh. Who makes this junk up for them? Albanians don't want anything to do with Serbians, why would they offer a pact for friendship. Why didn't they offer it years ago, instead of ehnically cleansing most minorities out of Kosovo? Now they want to "smoke the Peace Pipe", get real! Take your friendship pact and put it on Ebay - put it in the comedic material section.

Serbia needs to accept that independence has happened, and that they only thing left to decide is whether to agree on the Ahtisaari plan or to burden the Serb minority in Kosovo with unnecessary hurdles.

Wrong EA, if there's no compromise by December the negotiations will simply continue, probably in another form though. The current status is not in the interest of either side, except maybe American since they feed and prosper on conflicts, so sooner or later a compromise will be found.

But the German diplomat said the two sides held on to their unchanged positions, where Belgrade offered its essential autonomy solution, while the ethnic Albanian side persisted in advocating "cooperation between two independent states."
That is how it is. That is a realistic view on the issue. I doubt it will change the parties positions. I can speak for certain on the Albanian side. We have to see a more realistic approach from the Serbian government until the 10th of December. If not the USA and Europe will have the take the final decision which will be Ahtisari Plan plus the Kosovar Albanians open offer for Friendship Pact with Serbia.
