It is time for serious people to stop letting propagandists get away with claiming that Serbs in Kosovo are under attack and "being killed every day". This is simply not true, in fact it has never been true. Even the events of March 2004, nasty as they were, left only a few Serbs dead (actually more Albanians were killed, by police not by Serbs though). The truth should not threaten anyone - and the truth is Kosovo is a poor place, with corrupt leadership and little hope for economic future for its people, especially the young and the Kosovo Serbs are actually better off in economic terms than the Albanians, Kosovo Serbs are locked in their houses/villages mostly out of fear - which is provided to them in liberal doses by their Kosovo Serb leaders (most, but not all of them) and especially by the Belgrade masters who use the fear (borne both out of a sense of guilt for the collective responsibity of local and "official" serbs which no one acknowledges as well as out of experience with hostility from K-Albanians)to manipulate their own public opinion in favour of nationalist political parties and to attempt to manipulate world opinion in favour of keeping the land mass they want while avoiding responsibility for 2 million people they dont want.

As Sreten pointed out, NATO has no credibility left.
Withdrawing Serbian forces and allowing NATO to take over is out of the question.
Who can say that they will respect souveregnity of Serbia?
Did they respect UN 1244?
Probably we would see scores of Antlantic alliance leaders suddenly saying that "supervised independance" would be only solution for Presevo Valley.
That is simply out of the question.
Perhaps, as "liberal" said, there should be some light international presence to calm the spirits.
By "international presence" it would be important not to have it NATO led, both in civilian and military sector. We have all withnessed how UNIMIK and KFOR worked.
I agree with nv's suggestion that this mission, if neccessary in order for Albanians to feel protected, should be under Russian leadership. Others would be welcomed to contribute the forces as well, to be placed under Russian command.

I don't see anything wrong with some "light" international military presence in the Presevo Valley. It would be a good thing for Albanians and Serbs who live there to have some sort of balanced protection, without the need for politicians to mess things up.

One of the reasons for police and military build up in this region is due to possibility of unreast that will send vawes throughout the region in case that talks that are undergoing fail and unilatteral actions are taken by any side.
In that case NATO will most likely do nothing to prevent violance and unrest spreading to Serbia, based on past experiances.
They were unable to secure 40 km of bordervand prevent armed people from crossing for more then two years.
And, inviting NATO into this zone, will not be welcomed by Serbs. Weather we like it or not, NATO doesn't have any credibility left with Serbs.

This is beginning to look much like 90's. While Serbs are being attacked in Kosovo (while everyone ignores), Albanians call for NATO to "protect" them, although no incidents were recorded, except violant outbursts from Kosovo 1999-2001.
How many of Alabanian children have been killed while swimming there? How many houses burnt?
Perhaps to refresh your memory?

Even KFOR escort is not enough.

Incursions and violance of KLA were tolerated for 2 years until
"It was disarmed and disbanded through an internationally brokered agreement in 2001, after the area found itself of the brink of war in the previous two years.

Serbian security forces were allowed back in the buffer zone, and Belgrade continues to employ army and police units, including MUP's best trained and equipped outfit, Gendarmerie. "

This was tolerated for 2 years and as long as victims were inside Serbia it didn't matter at all to NATO.
Yet, Village-bay is asking why does Serbia requires such a big force in the southern border policed by Nato.
NATO didn't do anything until Macedonia became the target. And what about Kosovo Albanians leadership constantly threatening violance? Will it spill into Southern Serbia this time?

Not this time, my friends. Enough of this mascarade.
We should invite Russian troops to deploy along the border NOW!
Before, William Walker comes again.

"What Mr. Musliu said is only fair since K-Serbs always ask to have KFOR provide security for them. Hey, what goes around comes around.
(Agim Elshani, 25. September 2007 18:46)"

Mr. Elshani, your logic is way off line: Serbs ask KFOR to provide security because they are being attacked and killed by Albanians! They are under a constant REAL (not just perceived) threat! This, thankfully, IS NOT the case for ethnic Albanians living in south Serbia. Also, be careful of how you use "what goes around, comes around" as we all know that in the Balkans, unfortunately, this has been happening for a long time with NO INNOCENTS. Life has a funny/ironic/tragic way of reminding ALL of us of that from time to time.

It is too obvious that the recent deployment of troops and location of an army base in the south are designed to send a clear message to the valley Albanians in case of a independence outcome in Kosova. Military and police build up seems to be the Belgrade’s favourite form of action when it comes in solving coexistence problems. When Musliu, legitimate leader of Albanian inhabited area, expresses a genuine concern instead of addressing the problem by easing tensions his unease is dismissed as nonsensical.
Why does Serbia requires such a big force in the southern border policed by Nato. Contrary to the declaration of the army chief Serbia seems adamant to raise the stakes and be an hindrance to peace.
