My example was pretty simple KS:

The likelihood that people in power will act like idiots are not particular to one country or region alone. However, it seems that the comments of one Serb "idiot" was enough to galvanize enough people here to infer that such statements speak as a blanket conclusion to the attitudes and morals of an entire group of people. Moreover, the comparison with said group to one's own group (read as Albanians) as nothing like that, was ridiculous. Hence, the Holier Than Thou attitude. So some DSS official calls another Serb a "gypsy". And Berisha, the president of Albania calls his enemies "Jews" and other slurs.

Conclusion? Idiocy exists in all shapes and forms. I feel I was exactly on point. No less on point than the Albanian comments above that tried to link it to themselves and place themselves in a more respectible position.

I would agree with some commentators, some Albanians just use every opportunity to proclaim independence and point out fingers, whenever news like this happen. We are no better here in Pristina at what we do, in the parliament we might call Serbs by their proper name, between friends, it's always "shkije". So, no pointing fingers please. I sincerely think that B 92 blogs should be visited by people who are over the nationalistic fervour and are able to take a deeper and critical look into the craziness of politicians on both sides. And besides, comments like the first three ones are boring. Every one that reads B 92 knows what DSS is made of, we Albanians don’t need to shove that into their face. And it's repetitive already! Next thing you know, the English section of B 92 will be considered mostly read by nationalistic Albanians who have use it as a fertile ground to let their patriotic steam.

At the risk of uspetting everyone, corruption is not unusual in low income economies. The 'exploits' of various UNMIK officials has been monitored and reported on for years, but nothing seems to happen. Too much money is being made on 'consultancy' services by so-called experts who can not do anything, are completely inexperiences, and who are only in Kosovo for the money. Surely you do not expect that ALL politicians are in politics for the benefit of their constituants, or for a 'noble cause'. In the last ten years working in all the Balkan countries any hope I had for that has long since disolved.

Corruption is one symptom of a poor economy. People in positions of power and influence will use that authority for their own ends. Serbs are no diferent than Kosovo Albanians. I do not excuse it, but I can understand how it happens. It does not help either side to throw this accusation at each other, both Serb and Albanian are tainted by these scandals.

Imagine the sense of putting someone earning a few hundred Euros a month on charge of a multi Million Euro budget. Then ask yourself 'why' they might try and 'play the system'.

Corrupt practice takes money out of the mouths of the poor. UNMIK have led the way, It surprises me not at all others are more than happy to follow the 'best practice' of the western powers.

Cynical, me? Heaven forbid

Ratko , have you ever watched Kosova Parlamanet in session, when e Roma MP gets the floor he is never interupted or insulted in any way. That is true democracy.

Mike we are talking about Serbian politicians. Why do serbs always bring up regions or people that have NOTHING to do with Kosova.

What does Albanian PM have anything to do with Kosova?

What you are doing is this:

EX:

Serb accuses kosovars = criminals

I post a link of Croatian PM wanted by Hague.

What do the two incidents have ANYTHING in common?

We're talking about Kosova in the Kosova Forum, not about Aziberjan, Moldovia, Basque, Chechnya, Sudan, etc etc. Stay on point.

And Berisha's supposed to be one of the good guys, right?

Mike

Sali Berisha in lovely Albania refers to his political enemies as "Jews" and "faggots" in the state controlled newspapers.

Please refrain from the Holier than Thou spiel when you know your own leaders are in no position to cast the first stone.

I give up. Kosovo should be given to the Albanians just so they would be quieted. Pro-Alban commentators have been spewing the same sentences day after day here for years. They cannot wait for a chance to critisize or put Serbs down. Commenting on the actually story is not important - as long as they can put Serbs in a bad light. How in the world do Albanians expect to live as good neighbors with Serbs? Do they really think that is possible? I do not.

HIGHLIGHTS

"hurling insults at each other until Batić stormed out of the meeting, telling Jakšić that “the matter was not yet
closed.”

Serbian politician's have a new tactic, WALK-OUT.

He raised the question of funds allocated to Kosovo from the state budget, asking what had happened to the money, and who had made good out of it, buying apartments, property and jeeps.

Corruption at the highest level? What's this princip and cvele? Also buying property? Like the buying illegal homes owned by Albanians in Mitrovica? That kind of property?

Jakšić responded by accusing Batić of coming to the session not in order to defend Kosovo, but to “provoke others with his Roma and Gypsy mentality.”

In the parliament..you have one calling the other ROMA and GYPSY. Some democratic country you got. I'm surprised he didn't call him 'siptari'.

“provoke others with his Roma and Gypsy mentality.” !!!

Ah, very nice Serbia.

This coming from the "democratic" wing of politics. Shame and manners are the only two among things missing from Serbian politics. You'd think a new era began after Milosevic was gone. Yeah, right.
