Absolutely Jeton, unfortunately, common sense is usually the first casualty when exclusionary nationalism is being used by both sides of an argument.

"If Belgrade really wanted to keep Kosovo, they should offer the Albanian "maximum integration".

1. Make Albanian an official language of Serbia

2. Set aside key governmental posts for Albanians (maybe something like Serbian Prime Minister with Albanian President, or vice versa)

3. Revamp the educational curriculum to account for Serbia's "multiethnic" history, as opposed to strictly Serbian history."

I reckon Belgrade will offer what you have written Mike but as I said at the right moment. It is unwise to show your hand at this early stage as it may diminish your negotiating strenght. What is going on right now is the usual machinations, squaring up and the normal shape throwing, but when the real chin wagging gets going you will see some interesting developments from both sides. If you want my opinion, I think the K-Albanian side with srong backing from the Americans would still turn it down.

It is quite wrong to confuse freedom with selfishness...
Thousands of illegal immigrants from Albania (very ethnically pure country because Albanians don't tend to mix with anyione else in the whole world, there were many nixed marriages between Serbs and other nationalities there ) were risking to enter Kosovo within former Yugoslavia (SFRJ) to find better life there then in their very own country...Was it really so - only to become slaves!? Who can believe this - except someone completely ignorant of life in former Yugoslavia - as opposed to life in land of Black Eagles.
Mr.Martn Luther King has nothing to do with that, whatsoever.

The Albanians have settled into Kosovo. The Serbs were there all along. All this means is that Kosovo is a part of Serbia. No other country in the world would offer their ethnic minority the same level of self government as Serbia is offering and this is still not enough for the Albanians. Now one of the Albanians is suggesting that Albanian language is taught in Serbia. I wonder, would America bestow so much on their Hispanic minority. African Americans had centuries of oppression and they were forced to come to America. One justice system for some and another for others. Yes, Truth Justice and the American way all the way.

Gordo,
no sane intelect could think that giants like Russia and China could ever fear the Kosovo precedent. For Russia Kosovo is just one of many playing-cards, nothing more, China limits itself just to verbal declarations, while flooding Kosovo, Serbia and the whole of Europe with any kind of goods.
Or maybe Serbia is insisting on that useless 5% for Russia's and China's sake?
But, as it seems, that 5% is going to be added to the 95% soon after Dec. 10th.

3. Revamp the educational curriculum to account for Serbia's "multiethnic" history, as opposed to strictly Serbian history.

I can completely understand Belgrade's wanting to keep Kosovo, for political and historical reasons, but offereing "minimal integration" when the United States is offering full independence, is sort of like an Albanian having to choose between living in his own house, or renting out a room in the house of another. If I were in his shoes, I would know which one to pick. This isn't rocket science.

If Serbia really wanted to throw a wrench in the gears, they would offer broad incentives for integrating the Albanian community fully into Serbia's political apparatus. By keeping Kosovo attached only through what looks like dental floss, it makes the rationale for a clean break all the more reasonable for those interested.

Genc,
The 5% thing is there to help sway the vote of countries such as Russia, China, etc. who do not want a precedent set.

If you take away that 5% you will lose your 95%.

no Femi, it´s not laughable at all...but it seems like it needs some more time and much more suffering for you, to realize that the US-americans are not your friends...

you are being duped, and you´re not able to see it. that´s the Albanians tragedy it looks, running into their own trap with full speed...

if they want so, so be it, but you will bear the responsibility for what follows. and the US will whitewash everything and say that they only wanted the best for the balkan poeples...

This minister is trying to put a number on Freedom. You can be 94.97% free and 5.03% slave and 0.10% unknown. Lol...can you immagine Martin Luther King saying: I have a dream of being 67% free!

Guys, when it's over, it's over!

genc

Well, if you give up 95% I don't see the point on insisting so much on the remaining 5%. I would have asked then for a reasonable bargain to sell my useless 5% (bearing in mind what it costs to me). Common sense.

Politics aside, I always wander with the job of minister for Kosova. What does he do in the office all day? Since he is the minister for a job he can do nothing, it must be the best job in the world. Do nothing. The best he can do is read the news about Kosova and take a nap, a bottle of brandy, and at the end of the month get a minister's salary. How do the people accept such a ministry? At the end they pay for him. I got nothing for the man himself, just for the post.

samir

Really you guys do not know what has happened in the past. Maybe not. Because nobody is willing to remember his own bad deeds. When our tragedy has occurred, the Serbs thought that it has happened from the moon and not from your elected leaders.

Reformist Party ORA leader Veton Surroi, who said that, unlike Serbs who "offer a 19th-century solution, Kosovo Albanians offer the 21st-century solution."

Really this talk of autonomy that Serbs, are offering to the Kosovars is laughable.

EA

His offers are unworkable and unrealistic. Break free Serbia and Kosova from each other!. Enough is enough. How would be called the Kosovar Albanians according to the Serbian "offer"? Serbian citizens with Serbian passports? Will the Serbian flag fly again in Kosova soil as winner in the past war? Should the children in Kosova start learning Serbian in the schools? As you can see it is not realistic and it will never work?

village-bey

I do not understand why the Albanian side initiates goodwill gestures towards a side shows such a contempt for our free will. Serbia has failed so far to agree on matter of fundamental justice for us, such as cooperation on disappeared persons. We shouldn’t appear to too willing for good relations with Belgrade. If they don’t accept our hand in friendship we shouldn’t insist twice. They have nothing that we wont.
