First off i would like to say that it absurd that they would ban her from school for expressing her beliefs.

Second, Shandag, the headscarf is not a symbol of oppression when the person CHOOSES to wear it. In the middle east there are people who are forced to wear islamic symbols...but that girl chose to wear the headscarf.
I too am a muslim albanian, i do not wear the headscarf but i have relatives who do because it was their choice. Wearing the headscarf in Kosova takes a lot of courage on her part, seeing as when i visited the past couple of times most girls there dress very obscenely.
I can undertstand your misunderstood view of Islam, you should read up on both sides of the story before making assumptions. Just as i have about judaism and christianity. Then maybe, maybe, you can make a solid arguement without seeming to be brainwashed.

This is radical Islam at it's best...and it is scary. Why does everything have to be taken to an extreme? I am not Serb, I am not even of Balkan decent...so don't try me. But I am tired of seeing Albanians rally together over fake causes and causing loads of drama, The best thing that Muslim people could do at this point is rally together, and speak up for a peaceful Islamic movement- show the world that you are not all about violence! How can people live with you in peace, when you are running through the streets every other day carrying out crimes, and murdering people...anyone know about the shoot out in Macedonia like TWO weeks ago? Start thinking about the future of our children people! This will only lead to a more messy and complex situation in the end!

Kosovars would be ok with living in Serbia if it was not for foreign hardliners and their ideas of distructions and stealing other countrys land.

Kosovo is NOT your land. It is albanian. You stole it from us in 1913 and now you know you lost it, but you are doing everything not to rule Kosovo (because you know it is not possible anymore), but not to leave albanians the pleasure to call it as it is: their land.

To Sam of Serbia or wohoever you are I would like to say: If you live in Serbia live like Serbians. If you are foreigner in Serbia and don't like it just go back to your country and stop creating problems in country where you don't belong to begin with. Kosovars would be ok with living in Serbia if it was not for foreign hardliners and their ideas of distructions and stealing other countrys land.

Rovena of Albania,

Thank you for your kind and understanding words. As I'm sure you may have summized, some Albanians and Serbs have rather distorted steriotypical views of one another. I am glad that you responded to my comments about Cvele. People of his level make comments that shock both Serbs and Albanians alike. Who knows what kind of upbringing Cvele may have had.

It may surprise some people reading this forum that I know of many Serb families from rural farming areas that have six to eight children or more. Large families are not limited to just Albanians. The reason, according to sociologists, is that farm work requires lots of hands, therefore, it is an economic necessity to have many children. Even America has large farm families.

As far as Kosova/o is concerned, I feel that Albanians should rule it. By that I mean that Kosova/o must have independence. First of all, if the roles were reversed, I think that Serbs also would want independence. Secondly, I think if Serbia is to prosper economically in the near future, it must let Kosova/o go free voluntarily. There is no way that Serbia can manage with Kosova/o as an appendage. Contrary to most serb's beliefs, it would be economically advantageous for Serbia to let Kosova/o go its own way.

I personally believe that Albanians and Serbs will soon become good neighbors and trading partners if given the opportunity.

As you said earlier Rovina, Serbs and Albanians have much in common, but more importantly their differences make them richer, not for war.

Peace and tolerance to all!

oh no prob ;) here's more info: it was british airways, and the woman won her case in court. i guess the ba got carried away with their pc running wild. once again, a tiny cross arounds someone's neck in no way compares to hidden heads, faces and bodies. comparing the two is what one former serbian fm referred to as mixing apples and carrots or maybe it was frogs and lizards, can't remember which :) because, while the cross IS a religous symbol for christians, dress code for women in islam is a matter of social pressure, and apparently features nowhere in the quran.
and has no place in europe in the 21st century.

Sam of Serbia,
I really do know that not all serbs are like Cvele, but your intervention made me feel better. It is not common to hear good and constructive comments these last times in this forum. The fact is that we are neighbours and we have to understand that it is in our interest to respect each other.I've always underlined in my comments here that in the reality being neighbours for such a long time has made us be very similar and I would rather stress upon these similarities than on the differences. The differences are welcome, but to make us richer, not for war.

CORRECTION!

An obvious error was made in my post #9. The last paragraph should read:

Religious symbols such as a headscarf or cross or YULE TIDE log should be NOT condemed as signs of fanaticism no matter which religion it belongs.

Sorry for my error.

I would like to extend my apologies to all my Albanian friends and neighbors for Serbs like Cvele. I hope you understand that Cvele does NOT represent all Serbs, not even a large minority. If everyone thought and believed as Cvele does then this world would be a terrible place to live. I sincerely hope that B-92 will take severe action against Cvele since he has violated all your rules of civility that you claim to uphold. In short, Cvele is an embarassment to all decent and civilized Serbs. No wonder that Europe has such a low opinion of Serbs. I am convinced that this sort of attitude that Cvele so brazenly displays here on B-92 has contributed to the impending lose of Kosovo.

Religious symbols such as a head scarf or cross or YULE TIDE log should be condemed as signs of fanaticism no matter which religion it belongs.

Thanks for the info shaldag. A major airline (Lufthansa?) banned a flight attendant from wearing a cross while on duty. Her defence was "freedom of religion."

I think it would be kind of difficult serving drinks in the narrow aisles if she were wearing a full sized wooden cross. ;-)

I dont know if to laugh or cry. In an autonomous Kosovo you may wear those ninja outfits if you so choose. Now albanians what was that about being free?
(Cvele, 21. September 2007 22:51)

In an occupied Kosovo, serbs were really interested on inciting albanians to prescribe themselves as muslims, in order to get rid of their national conscience. In a free Kosovo, there no such tricks. Albanians are albanians and not muslims. And there are no serbs forbiding names such as Gjergj, Alban or Dardan, and inciting names such as Ramadan, Hasan and Ibrahim. It is scary serbs now that you don't have anymore that argument of albanian islamism?

Replying to Cveles comment. Those Ninja outfits are Albanian cultural heritage, very similar to your ninja outfit different in shape and color though. Others in Balkan have it and I have seen them wear it.
Now I know you are a Serb and think that you are superior to others however to me there is no difference; you are just showing your level.

Headscarf is something is being imposed by some circles and I am in favor of not allowing it in schools.

I am surprised some people lecture us here about freedom. Where were you when Milosevic was around. Quite a transformation in such a short time. I don't know where were you when Serbs killed the others for wearing the same headscarf or ninja outfits, and they've done so in your name too.

Albanians getting nervous?

don´t worry, those attempts to suppress the growing islamic influence do not work, since I have read about islamic radicalization in several ( non-serbian ) articles, both print-magazines and internet-zines.

as long as Albanians do not close those Wahabi-mosques that were established with Saudi-money... nothing will change and those "make-up"-like steps won´t cover what is a problem not only in the serbian province of KiM.

you can´t hide the truth, no matter how hard you try.

"cross is the same as headscarf"
Well if a tiny cross around your neck can isolate and demean you, suffocate you in the heat and separate you from the rest of the mankind, then sure it is.
Cross around someone's neck is a symbol that can easily be made invisible and is very private and does not interfere with someone's life.
Why don't they wear halfmoons around their necks if they "only want a symbol".
A symbol right, one of oppression.
I'm thinking carrying a huge wooden cross on someone's' back daily could possibly be equated with all these bourqas and whatnots.
Children should be brought up free and taught the right values, obviously in this case headscarf goes hand in hand with this poor girl being taught that this piece of cloth is more important than her education! Meaning, how her entire life will turn out. I think I know how, in sad oppression by whoever is in position to impose it. Not many opportunities out there for school dropouts.
It's a pity Kosovo's sliding to this, but not a surprise.
btw "succulent turkey" ;) bans it from schools and strangely enough human rights there are defended by none other than the army

I can undertstand your misunderstood view of Islam, you should read up on both sides of the story before making assumptions. Just as i have about judaism and christianity. Then maybe, maybe, you can make a solid arguement without seeming to be brainwashed.
